  • Hi to Topsy and ACEY. Topsy, a good way of making a cooked breakfast is to shove it all in the oven - sausages, obviously, then a couple of Portobello mushrooms brushed with oil and a covered pot of beans. Serve with bread rolls and orange juice. No hassle.

    My blessings are

    1) Salvaged 20 cucumbers from the allotment yesterday! Amazing! I thought the cold weather would have made them all go mushy. Anyway, some have been pickled, some have gone to friends and the rest are sitting in the fridge.
    2) House of Flying Daggers on tv last night. That film is so beautifully shot.
    3) Bag of clothes and shoes for my daughter from a friend at work. Very generous.
    4) Filled my oven for tea - a chicken, some baked potatoes, some braised cabbage and some baked apples.
    5) Hall floor is now finished and DH did it all himself. Of course, we are not allowed to breathe in there but it does look lovely and now that all the DIY stuff has gone the place seems very tidy.
  • Hi everyone, a bit 'meh' today so this will do me good

1 - a weekly train ticket costing £10 less than I remember it doing (it's been a while)

4 -Apart from the train ticket (an essential) a NSD
4- Enjoying my new book (a bargain from the PDSA shop)

Good morning  everybody - lovely and bright here today - the 6 nearby tower blocks are glowing pink in the 'dawn light' - look quite strange.

Didn't get around to posting early yesterday because I had to be up, showered, presentable and out of the house before 9.00 (normally work out of home-based office) - and just look what happens! You lot have been so busy I don't stand a chance of speaking individually. Put me to shame you do :o.
    • Would like to say :hello: and welcome to all our new posters - it's brilliant to see so many of us 'counting our blessings' while many around us are moaning about their 'lot in life'.
    • Cooeeee  and good to see you again to all who've been away for a few days - specially Caterina - good to hear your family are all well :).
    • ((((HUGS)))) for all who are feeling poorly, fed-up, lonely or just in need of one.
    • Well done :j to all who have tried something for the first time and had success.
    Sunday's blessings

    1. Quick trip to Asda and was a very good Ollie because money was tight and I kept the spending to a minimum. Managed to get a few bits for DD, birthday card for her b/f and a present for him (a great rugby-style top reduced from £14 to £7).

    2. DD has finally asked me for coathangers! For 12 years, she's been running 'her own house' and I've been nagging at her about hanging clothes up in wardrobes - and for 12 years I've been told she 'likes to do things her own way' (meaning no coat-hangers ) and finally the BREAKTHROUGH :j:j - got rid of a bag of about 40 of the darn things on her (I know that they breed when you turn the lights out at night!!!).

    3. Spending some time with 3 of my dgk's in their own home and dgd1 making me a cup of coffee (she's 11 now so quite old enough) for the first time :).

    4. Back home to do a 'Sunday Roast' - thanks to another thread on this board that made me feel guilty for not bothering most weeks :o. Leftover mash and gravy both frozen in containers for dgk's some time.

    5. Read a bit more of my book in bed before falling asleep.

    Monday's blessings

    1. Arrived at Head Office in plenty of time for my half-day course on 'Energy Efficiency' and wore my new boots for the first time :) - lovely and comfortable (don't do fashion/style with my feet!).

    2. Learnt some really useful stuff about controlling various heating systems and how to use them to get best performance/vfm.

    3. Visit from DD with her b/f and dgk's. They'd come to collect the 'old computer'. OH had been having probs with it and b/f was going to 'have a good look/see' and try to get it sorted for us - OH only uses it for downloading music.

    4. Whoopsied Minced Steak Slices with oven chips for evening meal.

    5. Some great emails from friends all over the place - jokes duly 'read and forwarded' and tidied my email boxes - some had been in there for a couple of years :o.

That's me done for now - need to get off and start work for the day. Hope we all have some great money-saving ahead - love Ollie xxx
