Good day to you all
I also want to know what chichri is please!
Here are my five for the day:
1 - Breakfast of free sample of Dorset Cereals (YUMMY!) from my free visit to the Country Living show
2 - Spent the morning embroidering hankies with my friend, to give my family at Christmas
3 - Anticipating the lentil and pasta soup (lovely smell already!) that I shall share with DS for lunch
4 - Spending time with DS, helping him send his school certificates to his college to be exempt from Key Skills - he is studying music at the moment
5 - Sending back to the mystery shopping agency my report of last night's wonderful dinner dance and realising again that I am so lucky to get paid to be entertained!
Love to all

OK partly it's because I can't spell it LOL - it's khichri. It's a spicy rice and pulse mix - I used split yellow peas (bought because they were cheap and then I realised I had no clue what to do with them) but you can use lentils etc.
85g pulse of your choice
170g rice
1 onion
1 clove garlic
3 cloves
3 cardomom pods
1 inch piece cinnamon stick
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
3/4 pt stock
1/2 tsp turmeric
pinch of salt
Wash the pulses and rice and then cover with water and soak for 2-3 hours.
Put chopped onion, cloves, cardamom, cinnamon, cumin and half the stock in a pan. Cover, bring to the boil and cook for 10 minutes. Then remove the lid and simmer for 20 mins.
Add the rice and pulses to the pan with the turmeric and salt. Stir well. Add remaining stock, bring to the boil then cover and simmer till cooked, adding more liquid if needed.
I enjoyed it and would make it again, and I had enough leftovers for a lunch. Oh, it serves 4 as a starter/accompaniment or 2 as a main.
Not much OS in my life today as I've been out at work. Considering going to buy some more compost, but just vegging out with a coffee is sounding like a good bet at the moment!0 -
Mine for yesterday are:
1. Watching the sun set over the ocean with Dh.
2. Watching the windsurfer and para surfer speeding down the river - the para surfer told me he was reaching 35 knots!
3. Finishing knitted scarf for a Christmas present.
4. Spinning beautiful merino wool for the next present.
5. Enjoying the evening with a good book and glass of hm rose petal wine.0 -
A very damp cold Monday morning here but I'll try hard.
1. Keeping warm by doing the ironing.
2. A brisk walk to the post box to try to stay warm.
3. Gas fire on for just twenty minutes warmed up the dining room sufficently for me to sit and make cards all afternoon.
4. A cottage pie with some of the left over brisket from yesterday for tea tonight with enough still left over for rissoles tomorrow.
5. Sitting knitting with a fleecy blanket round my knees, a jumper, a cardigan and a scarf round my neck and managing (just) to keep the heating off.
Not such a bad day after all but I hope the sun shines tomorrow.

I've only just found this thread. What a lovely idea...to think of 5 nice things in every day, instead of 5 moans and groans. So here goes for my first offerings:-
1) So grateful to wake up next to my loving hubby of 40 years.
2) Made 'yummy' Chocolate Brownies with Shreddies that were otherwise destined to be wild bird feed (thanks to this site)
3)Enjoyed HM Cauli & Stilton soup, with fresh HM bread rolls for lunch.
4) Made a couple of lovely draught excluders for the doors with a duvet bought from a charity shop for £2.50, and a remnant of plush 'rich' fabric bought from Dunelm for £1.45...and still enough materials left for another one.
5) Still got my dear Mum here to say Night Night to..at the age of 89Feb. G.C. From Jan 26th £350.00
First month..pure guess!! Wk. 1 £136.38 balance £213.62. Wk.2 £108.10p balance £105.520 -
Good morning to you all!
Here are my five:
1 - Eating my mum's HM quince jam that I took back from Italy on my crispbreads, DELISH YUMMY!
2 - Amazed at the discussion I had with DS this morning, he is a student and a drinker and smoker, always skint except for his paper round money (at 19, I no longer give him pocket money as he has to earn it), and he told me that he wants to donate £2 per month to a charity, so we talked about which charity, he is thinking about what cause he would like to donate to. I am so proud of him!
3 - Dubious pleasure, but I am delighted that I have got my filling at the dentist over and done with, and no longer obsessing about having to go and how painful it is gonna be etc...!
4 - Planning lunch and dinner around remains of last week's veg bag, waiting for the free mixed box from Abel and Cole (from a promotion I read on this forum).
5 - Planning the two cushion covers I am going to make with DS's old jumper that he wanted to give to charity shop but I have snatched from charity bag to reuse at my textile class.
Love to all, have a good day

1) Sunshine and blue sky.
2) The wonderful buzzard sat on the fence as I turned out of the road this morning, no doubt looking for breakfast
3) Driving along the sea front to drop the boy at school. It may be a short drive, but the view is always different.
4) There is such a thing as a free lunch, its leftover from last nights tea and in the fridge.
5) Home made jam on toast.0
