I've missed this thread but been having computer problems. Such is life, all ok now though. My recent blessing are
    1. Fresh fish for tea caught by a good friend.
    2. A day off work and I have spent it catching up on all my housework while everyone is out.
    3. Beautiful sunny day, washing on the line and an hour long walk with the dog.
    4. Catching up with this thread. Always a joy to read everyones blessings.
    5. Sorting out two bags of stuff for the charity shop.
    6. One for tonight - am going to watch How to look good naked with a glass of wine. All women need someone like Gok to tell them how fabulous they are!
    7. Catching up with friends I haven't seen for some time.
    8. Finding the courage to say no to extra work. I find extra time can be just as valuable as extra money.
    9. The kitchen shop replacing my oven door glass at no charge, should get it tomorrow.
    10. Getting my 'shoebox' ready for the christmas appeal. Enjoy thinking about the pleasure it will give a child.
    Love to all. x

    Hello

Not dropped in here for a while but I had a lovely day today and thought I would share:

    • Catching up with friends for a good natter
    • Choosing a book (in the sale) on slow cooker recipes for the winter
    • Going for a walk and enjoying the autumn leaves and freshness
    • Changing the curtain ready for winter
This evening I am also planning on:

    • Going to the library
    • Relaxing with a good magazine/book
    • Watching ghost whispers
    • Making the best baked potatoes ever!
Taking responsibility one penny at a time!

Have had a very stressy couple of days so didn't post yesterday, but feel a lot happier today because:

    1. Got on top of some major headache stuff at work that's been sitting on my desk for the past two week while I've picked at the easy stuff. Such a relief to get it out of the way!

    2. It's October but still warm enough to out with sandals and bare legs and just a t-shirt & skirt.

    3. DS2 is finally perking up a bit following the tragic suicide of a good friend.

    4. Finished shaping the hole for the new garden pond and got the liner in before the rain comes (and it will!)

    5. Came home from work late after a hard day to find DH had done pork chops, baked potatoes and salad and bought posh yoghurt for pud.

    6. My 1p copy of The More With Less Cookbook arrived from Amazon - can't wait to start using it!

    7. It's Friday tomorrow!
Oh dear, here we go again.
  • Hi everyone
Like everyone here, my thoughts are very much with the people of Samoa and Tonga, they have suffered so much in the last few days, particularly in Samoa, which was one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to.
    My blessings for today.

    1. OH is taking part in an international game fishing tournament in Tonga, starts in a couple of weeks, so at least he will be able to directly contribute financially to help out.

    2. It's Friday, OH is home and we will have the whole day together.

    3. Made good progress on the vegetable gardens yesterday, they are now looking like ones they should.

    4. First coffee bean has definitely sprouted, so I am on the path to producing my own coffee.

    5. Growing blueberries for the first time, the bushes are covered in flowers, so hopefully will also have homemade blueberry muffins this year!

    6. Made beef olives for dinner last night and OH really liked them

    Blessings be

    Jennie

thriftyscotslass - My dgs1 'has problems' but nobody has actually statemented him as yet... She is so upset when it's put down to her 'parenting skills' (or lack of them).... We're convinced that he at least has ASD, or possibly ODD, but until 'somebody' is prepared to stick their neck out she is left to 'just get on with it'.

    Hi Ollie

This is all too familiar. I spent four years going to the Gp, school teachers, CAMHS, AMHS and educational psychologists. I was told everything from my son was just quiet and shy (ds was the "shut down" rather than "melt down" type) to being told that Asperger's was a "fashion" amongst parents at the moment. I was told by my brother that ds couldn't have Asperger's because children grow out of this and ds was far too old. My mother more or less told me that I had caused it by allowing ds to spend too much time on the computer.

People just don't listen to us Mums enough and it really is awful, you know something is "wrong" but no-one believes you and worse still so many "blame" you.
We had to reach crisis point before ds received his diagnosis.

(((Hugs))) to your dd and dgs1.

Thanks Louba - it definitely seems that support is better the younger the child is - once they leave school support for ASDs is very patchy.

Anyway, onwards and upwards, pleasures for today:

    1. Success - ds and I have successfully secured two places with Sailing for the Disabled. We are going sailing for the first time next Tuesday :T. I hope it suits ds because they have a fabulous programme in place.

    2. My iron starting to work again - it stopped working for a couple of days, I honestly thought it was a goner but it proved me wrong. After the talking I gave it, it must have decided that it had best behave :rotfl:

    3. More hm veggie soup for lunch with plenty of veggies left over in the cupboard for some more hm concoctions tomorrow :D

    4. Working out some healthy, low cal hm meals for teas for next week. Day 4 of my new healthy eating plan and all going well - refuse to call it a diet because me, diets and scales are not a good combination

    5. Enjoying Strictly - looking forward to Saturday :j

    Have a good evening everyone.

    Take care, Thriftyxxx
  • Gosh, it's hard today to think of any as I'm being unusually mardy. Only three for me today..

    1) Having dinner with my Mum
    2) 2 jars of HM Apple Jelly and 5 Jars of HM Rhubarb Chutney
    3) A Bag of chips with MrS on the park
    4)
    5)
  • Hi Sunflower. I do like that word "mardy". It comes straight out of my childhood. Seeing your Mum, making jelly and chutney and being with Mr S all sound lovely, even if there isn't a 4 or 5.

    1) Had a very neighbourly day, today. Next-door-but-two came across to say they are going away soon and could I look after the house please? He brought a bag of tomatoes too and promised some pears later. Next-door-but-three came to ask one of us to sign a form for him and came in to admire the kitchen alterations (well, he used to be an architect).
    2) Just as I was struggling to get out to take DD somewhere, next-door came round to invite us to tea on Sunday. Her husband is cooking paella, and he's Spanish, so I can't wait.
    3) Went to the allotment this afternoon and got some digging done in the sunshine, though not as much as I would like. Harvested what is surely the end of the beans, found three onions I had missed and one beetroot. Picked about twenty blackberries.
    4) Bottled some rhubarb from the garden. I wasn't going to pick any more as I have had a lot this year but it seems to be falling off the stock. Bottled it with apple in a kind of puree and made something similar with the blackberries.
    5) Found a stash of purple wool in a charity shop, so I bought most of it at 50p a ball. Yet another crocheted blanket? But it will keep me quiet.
  • 1. Catching up with a few loads of laundry-washed, dried & put away:D yes u guessed it- flylady;)
    2. Making banana smoothies with ds for breakfast-yum:D
    3. Having a snuggle with baby on sofa- lovely
    4. Losing 1 lb at slimming world-( thats 1stne altogether now) plus i get it paid for by mum( was a gift)
    5. Winning the raffle there- i got couscous, pearl barley, rice, crackers & tin of strawberries

Ollie - I'm chuckling at the naughty words in Enid Blyton :) DD and I have been laughing recently at one of her poetry books which includes, for some random reason, an apparently old Cumbrian method of counting sheep, one of the numbers is "bumfit"?!?

    1. Gorgeous sunny day - AGAIN!! Fingers crossed for the weekend...
    2. Found out my MOT ran out 9 days ago, gulp. Bad news but on the plus side, we went to the garage at the top of our road and they can get it done on Saturday morning, and as I'm working from home again tomorrow morning, I shouldn't need to drive anywhere before then.
    3. The car situation meant that I couldn't go to my diet group tonight, sad in one way as I enjoy it but great, in that I'm saving lots of money!
    4. Will be accompanying DD and her school to the harvest thanksgiving service at the village church tomorrow. I've not been to a harvest service since I was at primary school myself, so really looking forward to it! She has decreed that she would like to take a tin of beans....cue us both desperately looking in the kitchen for a tin that doesn't have a yellow sticker on it, and her carefully peeling a sticker off one that's not too dented. Bless her! I did offer to get a posh one from the village shop but she said this was okay, and it was a bargain. That's my girl!
    5. Being given a money off voucher off M&$ undies by a friend. Thanks chum!

    Hi all, here's mine:

    1. Popping into co-op and finding reduced courgettes, 50p bag of parsnips, lovely baking tins reduced to £3 (half price) and a few other bits cheaper than sainsbugs ;)

    2. Sausage, bacon, egg, chips and beans for tea :D

    3. My OH making me laugh by acting silly.

    4. The sun shining - love cold crisp sunny mornings with blue skies.

    5. A better night's sleep because it's slightly cooler.

    6. OH backing me up when he heard one of the boys was being bolshy towards me and threatening to stop their pocket money if they do it again ;) Starting high school seems to have made him a bit too big for his boots just now ;) - I'm a step-mum so don't always feel I have as much authority, so appreciate being backed up :o

    7. My rose on the decking having another spurt of growth with two more buds

    8. The campanula with lots of lovely purple flowers coming out - obviously it's happy in it's place in my border. Hopefully that means all the plants will be well grounded before any frost arrives.
