  • Hi all, heres mine for today,

1, laughing on the way to work with oh at something silly he said. He makes me laugh every day, not by telling jokes but just the silly things that he says.

2, a homemade tuna/mayo wrap for lunch. tasted much better than the shopbought sandwiches i sometimes buy.

3, a relatively stress free day at work.

4, driving home tonight it really began to feel like Autumn had arrived, I love those nights when the wind is howling outside but you are all cosy inside.

5, hot water bottle in the bed tonight, oh wanted to put the heating on tonight but I want to try and hold out for another couple of weeks or so yet. Oh walks around the house in shorts and a tee shirt all year round and complains that he's 'freezing'

  • Hello to our newbies :hello:

Hiya Kiwiblue nice to see you back and hear all about your hydroponic strawberries and other growing adventures. Have a lovely holiday in Sardinia Caterina.

Doing much better over the last couple of days - ds and I are starting to make baby steps on our new life together. For those that don't know, ds received a very late diagnosis of Asperger's Syndrome at the age of 17. Well after all the shock and stress of the diagnosis, ds leaving sixth form, me leaving work, sorting out social security benefits for us both, things went very flat and we seemed to fall into a big, black hole. We are very resource poor for Autism in our area and you have to fight for every little bit of support.

Luckily for us, last week I found a local parent's support group and met a fabulous lady who gave me so much help I cannot thank her enough. So my pleasures today are all down to this lady who has been through everything that I am currently going through:

    1. A phonecall from our local Crossroads Caring for Carers - a lady is going to come and chat to me and ds at home next Friday. They run a social enterprise venture that ds could attend once a week - this would bring ds some social contact and hopefully will be something that he might enjoy.

    2. Speaking to the disability development advisor at our local sport's centre - she has found us two walking groups that we can join.

    3. Same disability advisor is also going to investigate an activity session that may be suitable for us - they do tennis, table tennis, badminton, squash. I could never hit a ball at school so it could be fun :rotfl:. These are small, social groups and should be ideal.

    4. This one is cool - finding out that there is a local Sailing for the Disabled charity. If we are eligible we could go out sailing on a yacht every week. That's my project to investigate tomorrow, so please keep your fingers crossed for me.

This last one is for me:

    5. Feeling that I am starting to "accept" our new reality. For so long, I have been anxious and in shock running around trying to find a "cure" or trying to "fix" things so that ds could continue a "normal" lifestyle of college and work. Ds could go to college / work with support but he is not ready for that yet. So I have had to readjust to this - grieve I guess. Now it feels as if we are building a new life, completely different from the norm - it is hard at times but it is beginning to feel good at last.

Take care everyone and I look forward to reading all your posts tomorrow,
    Thriftyxxx

    1. Payday and having money left from last month for once!
    2. an ultra-rare NSD (am setting myself a target of 10 days this "month", I do payday to payday)
    3. parents' visit to DD's school was good, found out a bit more about the curriculum and "do's" and "don't worry's". DD's teacher told me again how fabulous she is - sure she says it to all the parents, but makes me feel great :)
    4. working from home tomorrow morning so will be able to take/pick DD up from school, a wonderful thing.
    5. cooked DD's dinner in remoska and the house smells delicious and a tiny bit tempting...will resist as diet group is tomorrow night! leftovers for her tomorrow, so less work for me!

Hi everybody and welcome to the new posters.

    Recent blessings

    1. Having 3 NSD's in a row albeit due to another chest infection but even that cloud had its silver lining

    2. Taking back a top I bought in the local charity shop last week, nothing there I fancied to replace it with but found a deep burgundy king size duvet cover which is just what I need to line my bedroom curtains with

    3. Getting a phone call from the contents insurance company to tell me they're putting a cheque in the post for the full amount I'm claiming, after the freezer breakdown

    4. Tidying the small bedroom/office and finding the money I'd saved toward the car tax. It was due last May and I'd forgotten I'd put it by so it's a big bonus as the MoT is due at the end of October. (better just clarify that I did pay the car tax! Just used other savings for it)

    5. My lovely young lodger being very caring while I was poorly (he's always so thoughtful) and buying a Chinese take away for dinner. He know how much I love them. and it certainly cheered me up

Night night all n God bless

Good morning everybody  - we finally had quite a lot of rain yesterday (and quite windy as well) but back to a pleasant morning today.

bella - I used to have mondays/tuesdays as my days off and I really miss those kind of days meeting up with my DD - weekends off are so hectic that it's hard to find the time 'to lunch' together :(. Sounds like you and your DD had a good time together.
Louba - amazing how much 'stuff' an OH can bring with them, isn't it ;).
sunflower - love your no.1 - charity shop browsing - one of my favourite pastimes .
helyg - Oh dear - sec of the PTA - did they see you coming ? Good Luck with it - one of the most thankless tasks in the world from what I can remember about it! Be careful, it usually leads on to loads more committees, school related stuff, community involvement, fund raising etc.
Primrose - glad to hear your back is feeling a bit 'straightened out' now.
newlywed - OH's, eh? - Can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em .
Reverbe - I've got a couple of bags of those mini marshmallows put by in my Christmas stash - couple of dgs's who love them floating on hot choc drinks.
Caterina - well done you on getting ahead with your hours before going away - have a safe journey and good visit to the 'rellies'.
mineallmine - I'm waiting for our local food recycling scheme to start here - the original leaflet stated 'first week in October' but no more news since then .
Badpenny - what is it with men and wanting to wear minimum clothing AND feel warm and cosy at the same time  - mine is exactly the same!
    princesslou - ooooooooo Banana Loaf!
thriftyscotslass - Great news about the support group and the social/activity groups as well. My dgs1 'has problems' but nobody has actually statemented him as yet. He gets extra support in school (funding for more 1-to-1 teaching) so his educational needs are being met but DD is having trouble getting professionals to recognise the emotional/behavioural elements. She is so upset when it's put down to her 'parenting skills' (or lack of them) - she has three children but he's the only one who has irrational outbursts/destructive tendencies, even though (some of the time) he's a very sweet, loving child who's more comfortable with much younger children who aren't bewildered by his behaviour. We're convinced that he at least has ASD, or possibly ODD, but until 'somebody' is prepared to stick their neck out she is left to 'just get on with it'.
helyg - well done :T to your ds on getting into the footie team.
Kittikins - Hey - money left over at payday :j:j - wtg you! And well done to your DD at school.
sparrer - Great news about your insurance company paying up for the freezer contents .

    Quick catch up on yesterday:

    1. DD visited to make some phonecalls - she's now had a landline installed but didn't have a phone to plug-in  - so it was bye-bye to the one that I bought a couple of weeks ago at the car booty sale to keep for emergency use if we have powercuts. Blessing - that I actually had a spare phone to give her:j.

    2. DD had her benefits stopped AGAIN - this time they are saying that she didn't inform them that she had moved house  - they loaned her the money for moving expenses PLUS she's actually had a letter from them addressed to her new home so not sure where they think that she didn't inform them ! Blessing - at least she has an appointment for this afternoon to try and get it sorted out - there's just no end to her problems at the moment.

    3. Dgs1 is still not in school. There've been delays in the transfer of his records from one Local Authority to the other. He has now been off school since July without any tuition of any kind. DD rang the Education Department and has been told that they've now received the records and his case is being dealt with :j.

    4. dgd1 (11) came here straight from school - the lining in her new school blazer had come undone by the inside pocket and she wanted me to sew it for her. She asked to stay the night and has now left for school - she's been asking me for ideas for christmas presents that she can make, so we've been on the Christmas and Special Occasions Board for inspiration. Maybe my OS/mse ways have skipped a generation and have now re-emerged in my dgd :j.

    5. dgd asked me for a book to read in bed last night, lol - gave her one of my old Famous Five books - not sure if it was 'quite her thing' but was surprised when she told me there were rude words in it! Rude words in Famous Five , hmmmmm. She pointed them out to me - '!!!!!!' and Aunt 'Fanny' - omg poor Enid will be turning in her grave :rotfl:.

that's me done for yesterday - time to start work for today. Speak again later - love Ollie xxx

    Morning!

Thrifty - Glad things are getting better for you. I have a friend who went through a similar thing, his daughter was diagnosed at about 15 and his 8 year old son was diagnosed at about the same time. They seem to have found that while there is good support for children who are diagnosed at a young age tehre isn't so much for teenagers so it's great that you've found somewhere suited to you.

1 - going to the pictures last night, film was terrible but at least I got to cuddle into OH!
2 - reading everyone's posts this morning really lifted my sprirts :cheesy:
3 - our neighbours inviting us out for a drink, not the noisy ones! Everywhere else I've lived people have kept themselves to themselves so that was a nice surprise
4 - gradually getting through my to do list
5 - signing up for a marathon next year, eek not sure that's a good thing but it's something to work towards!

    Here's mine:

    1. Good food mag in the post yesterday (my only mag subscription - stops me spending the £30+ a month I used to on mags :o)

    2. Finding lots of cook books recommended in good food mag - will check out how many are on the library lists ;)

    3. Looking forward to sausage egg and oven chips for tea tonight - might grill some bacon too.

    4. All the family planning on getting together on Saturday (to work hard clearing dad's huge shed) - be good to see them all.

    5. Having a nice easy, very tasty, minestrone soup recipe to cook for lunch so mum doesn't have to worry about that one - just dinner ;)

    6. Looking forward to a day off work on Monday, since it will be a busy weekend.

    7. Step son saying he's enjoying his construction course at school and would rather be doing that than having a day off.
working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?

LOL, already there I'm afraid... did a couple of years as treasurer of the village toddler group, then had to go and represent the toddler group on the committee of the village hall where it was held, which led to a stint as treasurer for the village hall, then when I finished as that I was roped into being on a fundraising committee which is trying to raise £500k to demolish and re-build the village hall (which is damp, draughty and full of asbestos) which is still on-going, and as the secretary has left I was asked to take that on. Then I was roped into being vice-secretary of the PTA last year, which led to being secretary this year. Plus I am secretary of a committee which is trying to organise moving the nursery school from the village hall to the school site, which involves raising about £125k. I also do odd bits and bobs for the church and the village playing fields. The only way I have managed to avoid being an official on the committee for the nursery school is the fact that I work there!

If you lift my fringe you will find the word "MUG" tattooed on my forehead ;) :rotfl:
