Hey all this is my first post on this thread:

    1. Handwashing my dishes (had mini flat warming party last night) rather than using the dishwasher.

    2. Watching swans, heron and other birds swim in the dock by me whilst eating breakfast

    3. Visiting my nan. had a lovely afternoon helping her do chores (she is almost completly blind and lost my grandfather in may) and gaining a lovely plant pot, some cuttings and welsh cakes.

    4. Making my first 'proper' dinner in my new flat, other than pasta. I had quorn sausages, mash, peas and onion gravy. The potatoes and peas came from my parents garden.

    5. I reserved 2 wooden chairs for my balcony that were in the sale in B&Q for £37, but when I went to pick them up they were only £20! :)

    6. I'm about to snuggle up on my pretend sofa (an airbed for now til the sofa comes) with my new throw from Primark and watching tv and reading my book.

Just got in from work so I'll post mine now while I have time
    1. Mountain walk with my brother. Certainly blew the cobwebs away.
    2. Picked even more blackberries.
    3. Very kind people replying to my wanted ad on freecycle for jam jars.
    4. Yellow label bread in ASDA. Now in my freezer.
    5. My brothers home grown beetroot with salad and pasta for tea. It was like a scene from the good life swapping my home made jam for his home grown veggies. Pumpkin soup tomorrow I think.
    Love to all.

Hello  Oh well ANOTHER 'lovely August Bank Holiday Monday'. It's dull, very overcast (at the moment) and a decided nip in the air this morning - but I'm living in hopes .................

newlywed - well done you - hope you both enjoyed your day together. It's a really good idea to make sure your mum still keeps an interest in her own nutrition and individual pies could be just the incentive she needs. My nan always used left-over pastry to make 'saucer pies' that could be split in two - even if they only had jam on them with a couple of twisted pastry strips for decoration. Never had greengages but I've noticed them in Asda the past week or so - I'm a 'goosegog' fan .
mine - thanks for that link to the Chicken Chow Mein - my OH's fave Chinese meal. May just have a go at that one next time he mentions takeaways :T. Well done on finding a proper 'friend' when you needed one :).
Louba - Well done on the decorating and good luck with the e-baying (never done it myself BUT I have bought from it :)). Sounds like a lovely day with the in-laws .
Caterina - good catch-up with the rellies there - scarey how quickly other peoples kids grow up without us even noticing. Well done on getting your OH to even attempt to make scones - you do realise, don't you, that this is giving other OH's an awful lot to live up to ;)! Glad to hear your back is feeling better .
Reverbe - Thanks for my first chuckle of the day - was just wondering how on earth you were going to eat 241 liquorice - brain not awake properly following an UNaccustomed lie-in :rotfl:. Do I detect another BB comrade-in-arms - who's the next one out?
ginnyknit - your Biker Meet sounds good fun and well done :j on your Poundland Bargains.
Kitchenbunny - good blackberry haul there - not found any this year so far - need to go for a walk where we used to live which is demolished waste-land - could be some there. Hairy Bikers is just about the ONLY cookery prog that my OH will take an interest in - oh yes and Hugh FW because he's 'scruffy' lol.
helyg - I love 'Who Do You Think You Are?' - but beware that genealogy stuff is very addictive. I have a cousin who's done work on my Mum's side of our family tree and it's fascinating stuff.
Blimus - Hope the diy is going well :) and well done on your in-laws for taking your boys out for the day while you got on with your B&Q hunt. Enjoy your BBQ.
flutterby - :hello: and welcome to '5 pleassures-a-day'. Sounds like your settling into your own place for the first time - well done you :T. Aren't nana's lovely - wish I still had mine! Great B&Q bargains there - hope you get some more sunshine so you can make the most of them.
billy858 - how brilliant that you and your brother can trade-off like you do :) and well-done to the freecyclers for the jam jars.

    Saturday:
    1. Managed to get completely up-to-date with the laundry - all dried on the line and OH even remembered to bring it in when the rain started while I was out :j.
    2. Got my darling Caitlin (dgd2 - 22mths) for the afternoon to give her mother some freedom to 'get on with things'.
    3. Caitlin and I 'hit the charity shops' (all 7 of them) for some bargain hunting - couple of cuddly toys for her and some books for me (really will have to start giving some back again for re-sale :o).
    4. Made an appointment for next Saturday to have my eye's tested - about 4-5 months overdue :o.
    5. Asda for tea-time (the lovely young man didn't charge me for Caitlin's few chips :j) and then we went 'whoopsie hunting' - I'll train her up to spot yellow-stickers ;). Got a toddler 'wrist strap' for £1 (reduced from £3) which she is now ready for using, lots of reduced veggies (all prepped and in freezer now), a couple of Chinese Chicken and Mushroom meals for under £1 each and reduced bread.
    6. Got a taxi back home again - loads of shopping plus toddler in a pushchair - and dropped Caitlin off at her mother's on the way home.
    7. Back home (7.30 ) to the lovely aroma of my HM Pea and Ham Soup in the SC - OH had been unable to resist and had already had 2 BIG bowls lol. Left-overs are now in freezer.

    Sunday:
    1. Really lazy morning baking (2 Lemon Drizzle Cakes that had been planned for saturday) and surfing the net while they were in the oven.
    2. Phone call from DD who wanted to go to the house and take stuff with her also crying about blocked drains in THIS house AND the fact that she'd bought a 2nd hand kettle to use for a couple of days (taken the other one to new house) and it was 'GREEN' on the inside.
    3. Visited DD armed with Soda Crystals, white vinegar and Bicarb (PLUS my stove-top kettle) to demonstrate the power of OS :j!
    4. Put kettle to boil on the cooker, tipped vinegar and Bicarb into the 2nd-hand kettle to soak for a while and emptied half a bag of Soda Crystals down the kitchen sink plug-hole.
    5. Made coffee for us both and sat chatting for a while about her plans for the day - cheered her up a bit.
    6. THEN informed her that the drains were now clear and kettle as good as new! Don't you just love it when a plan comes together :j:j:j - DD's best friend was mightily impressed! Many, many thanks to the OS Fairies on this site for the tips :T.
    7. Spotted a mountain of laundry in DD's bathroom and made her bag it all. Brought it all (plus Caitlin) back here for the remainder of the day while DD went back to the house with dgd1 and dgs1 - at least they useful for carrying things where Caitlin would only be in the way!
    8. Lovely Roast Chicken Dinner with stuffing, herby new potatoes, broccoli and carrots for evening meal - Caitlin devoured it all and then eyed-up MY plate as well!
    9. Took Caitlin back home to her mother around 8.30 - just in time for bed .

    Monday:
    1. Still finishing off the last couple of loads of laundry - got my whirly-gig full at the moment and trying to keep one eye on the clouds that are flying over. Just noticed some sunshine on the fence, so maybe the weather is going to change for the better after all - fingers crossed!
    2. Need to do some serious housework today - so should really get my backside off this chair and get stuck into it. Hope there's something good on the TV this afternoon - fancy an afternoon with my feet up ;).

Hope you all have a lovely OS/m-s Bank Holiday Monday - make the most of it - it's the last this year (at least till Christmas) and that you have the company of family/goodfriends around you - I'll check in again later to see what everybody's up to - love Ollie xxx
  • Wow Ollie, that's a lot of typing!

    1) Got up late. Were wined and dined by MIL and FIL last night and came back rather late so that we could make the most of it.
    2) Altered net curtains to fit our two front windows after DH had put in the wires. I feel we have a little more privacy now
    3) DH is just now finishing the shelves for my pantry. Hallelujah! What a lovely man! I just can't wait to start stacking bottles in there.
    4) Had home grown potatoes and veggies for tea, with our apples (stewed) and allotment blackberries made into a coulis over the top. Yum.

That's it. Got to go and vacuum the new shelves now.

    Morning all,

    1. Did my chilli the other day, making another 6 meals for the freezer. I just need a good recipe for cottage pie to freeze too.

    2. Going to bed early and feeling better for it this morning.

    3. Making Twinks hobnobs with spreadable Lurpak (big mistake) - rather than cookies I had a entire tray of 1 big cookie, left it to cool and cut it up, just about edible, at least I laughed!

    4. Finishing Eat Pray Love, a great book.

    5. Reading the messages on here.

Good morning all  - Oh well back to work this morning :( - really enjoyed my 'long weekend off'.

Patchwork - I did get carried away a bit, didn't I :o? How kind of your in-laws  and well done on altering your nets (I'm a great fan of them for privacy too :))
mineallmine - Shame about the Twinks/Spreadable Lurpak incident but :j well done on the batch of chilli meals.

Well yesterday turned into a complete lazy day - didn't get any housework done at all.

    1. Finished off the remainder of DD's laundry and had to resort to the TD in the evening to finish off things that 'hadn't quite dried properly' on the line - jeans/hooded jackets etc. Everything now folded flat and back in the bags that I brought them in - phew :j. My OH walked round the house yesterday singing 'Chinese Laundry Blues' by George Formby :rotfl: - sarky beggar!
    2. Couldn't be [STRIKE]asred[/STRIKE] bothered with any cooking at all - so we had a total 'butty day' - ham/cheese toasties for lunch and l/o chicken and stuffing for evening meal.
    3. Watched '100 Greatest Family Films' on the telly - THAT's why no housework got done!
    4. Visit from DS1 in the evening with his g/f's son - they stayed for a couple of hours.
    5. For the squeamish among you - please read no further - Ped-egged my feet - ooooooooo what bliss!
    6. Chatted to my sister on-line for a while and then actually had an early night - well early for me - it was 12.30!

better get ready for a day's work then - I'll check back in again later - hope you all have a good day - love Ollie xxx
