    Here's my five!

using our annual pass to go to the local museum with my young boys.

trying to explain to my 5yr old why Romans built straight roads and why we can't go and see the Romans right this minute. "They died because they didn't eat their vitamins!!" "But doesn't everyone have shops?"

Watching my 9 1/2 week old puppy trying to climb the stairs, then realising she's been caught!

Cuddling up with my boys to watch childrens TV.

Reusing last nights mince to make a gorgeous Spag Bol!
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.
  • This is the first time I have posted on this thread!

!) finding lots of bramble bushes when I was out walking the dog, with a mix of ripe, nearly ripe and not ripe at all brambles. every time I discovered more I got more excited! I found a wee treasure trove of them at one bit, and even though i took nearly a sandwich back full there were loads and loads left. i will be going down there every night for the next week or so get some more! :j

    2) eating some of my newly foraged brambles! (with some in the freezer to add to a crumble next time I have an over ripe left over apple!:T

    3) watching my wee doggie bob in and out of the river chasing sticks, he had such a great time!:D

    4) feeling revitalised on return from my walk, I was feeling a bit poorly before I went out, and I enjoyed our walk so much that I feel great now!:o

    5) I am off for an early night!:j

    Good evening all

Wow - had to really search for us tonight - we'd slipped down to about 4th page .

billy858 - welcome back from your holiday :) and :j at your blackberry jam making session.
Reverbe - great couple of days you've had there :) - I love to feed the ducks etc with the dgk's when we get the chance to go to the 'proper' park.
Caterina - the dgk's aren't quite as bad as I make them out to be (mmm well sometimes they ARE as bad ) - but best of all is they (usually) go back home at the end of the day :T. I've been present at the births of three of them (DD's birthing partner) and even cut the cord for dgd2, which had me in floods of tears . I just don't know how you find time to bake BEFORE breakfast  - do you have more hours in your day than I do ;).
LameWolf - sorry to hear you're not feeling 100% but :T to your OH for offering to cook for your both this evening.
esmf73 - lol at your 'History Lesson' - the Romans died out because they didn't eat their greens/vitamins - well done you :rotfl:! I love museums with kids - they're so full of wonder at everything.
tartantotty - good to see another new poster. Sounds like your walk/foraging really lifted your spirits yesterday evening. Exactly what this thread is all about - looking for the pleasures in each day instead of bemoaning our woes .

Mine for the last couple of days:

    1. Being told that the empty property in my Scheme has been signed for, the 'problem' has now been rectified and the lovely gentleman will be moving in during the next week :).
    2. DD (Calamity Jane) has signed the lease on the property that she went to view and will collect the keys tomorrow morning. She's hoping to move in sometime next week - this is such a weight off our shoulders as she, AND her three children, were faced with the Homeless Families Unit as their final option.
    3. Spent yesterday evening sorting clothes in DD's house and brought some home for washing as her electricity meter was running a bit low.
    4. Found myself in Asda at 1.00am getting veggies for my Shank Stew - intended to put it on after getting home - but then couldn't be bothered and fell asleep instead lol.
    5. Managed to get lots of laundry (including the bedding for DD) washed/line dried as it's been quite blustery here today :).
    6. OH suggested a 'curry takeout' for evening meal tonight and I talked him out of it - very pleased with myself :j. We finally settled on oven chips, peas/sweetcorn with fish cakes for him and fried egg for me - cheap and cheerful instead of £££'s .
    7. Gammon Shank is now bubbling away in the SC and will smell delicious in the morning. Overnight cooking it used to drive poor Tiggy-tiger potty and this is the first time I've done this since he was 'pts' :(.
    8. Found a fresh pineapple (stashed in the 'little-used' fridge) that I bought on whoopsie last weekend. Had that after our evening meal .
    9. Defrosted a whoopsied 'Carrot and Pumpkin Seed Rustic Loaf' that I bought for 25p in Asda two weeks ago - absolutely gorgeous - had some with SmartPrice 'philly-style' spread for lunch today.

That's me done for this evening. See y'all in the morning - love Ollie xxx

Just realised I haven't posted for a couple of days, I don't know where the time goes and I'm sure I don't know how I fitted everything in when I was working. Well done all you not-yet-retired posters :T

Good news about your DD's housing situation Ollie, what a great relief for everyone

    My blessings...

    1. Another freebie mascara in the post, they've sent me two by mistake. Now, what should I do....? Lol, have put it by toward a Christmas stocking

    2. DGD2 is here for the weekend so I've been scouring the local freebie papers for things to do and places to go. Lots on at a reasonable price and there are some 241 entry vouchers to cut out so we shouldn't be bored

    3. My daft little dog has discovered plums. One rolled onto the floor and I think he thought it was a ball as he chased it, then sniffed it, licked it, bit it and swallowed it! I already share my after lunch apple with him, now I'm going to have to share my plums too - minus the stone in future of course

    4. Saw some lovely unusual additions which would go perfectly with my canteen of cutlery in a sale this morning, and which would have savd me £30+ on the full price. However I decided not to buy them because the only real way to save is not to spend in the first place and the cutlery only comes out on high days and holidays anyway...and do I really need a lobster pick or cranberry jelly ladle?! Thank goodness sanity prevailed

    5. While browsing Ebay I saw pieces of my day to day cutlery being offered at silly money. Strange because it's nothing special and not very modern, but it was advertised as 'retro' whatever that means. <<<Thinks - if I sold mine, I could easily afford that silver lobster pick...>>> :rotfl:

Night night n God bless, ((((hugs)))) to everyone

    Forgot to do yesterdays blessings!

    1) Drying rosemary (from neighbours) in microwave and filling up a storage jar with it. Lovely smell in kitchen: )

    2) Potting up yet more plum jam.

    3) Planning a barbecue with friends and family to celebrate dh and my birthdays this weekend

    4) Planning a Christmas card making session with the anchor boys

    5) Slowly but surely flying my way to a tidier house!
Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

    Hi all

Ollie, I laughed at your wonder re. my baking before breakfast, did I give the impression that I do that all the time? LOL It was a one-off but in any case soda scones are so very quick to make, it took me less than 1/2 hour start to finish! And I did it because I could not get back to sleep and DH needed breakfast (and we had no cereal in the house). I wondered if you thought I am one of these wonder-women that post on the Flylady thread (scary! Not me! LOL)!

Anyway, did not post yesterday so here is a mix bag of pleasures and blessings since yesterday:

1 - The Climate Camp is on Blackheath (minutes walk from my home) YIPPEE! How cool is it, I get to go to the Climate Camp AND sleep in my own bed! Could not think of a more perfect situation!

2 - Backache nearly gone, slept much better (both night before last and last night)

3 - Managed a good chunk of work yesterday morning so I could go to the Climate Camp in the afternoon to see the big Marquee being raised, amazing work of co-operation!

4 - Dinnertime, my friend came over and we had Cicoria and Broccoletti (Italian veg that I grow) in pasta, fried in garlic and oil - totally scrumptious.

5 - I got a Welcome Back goodie bag from Farmaround organics for returning to them and they also gave me a very good offer of reduced priced standard veg and standard fruit bags - and no delivery charge - an offer I could not refuse!

6 - It was good to see the Farmaround delivery driver, who is a great guy (who once provided kindness and comfort on a day that I had great emotional pain and he offered many wise words). He asked me how things are and I was delighted to say that things are so much better, and we had a lovely chat on the doorstep.

7 - I found out that my regular milkman is doing well and going to be back soon (after having a skin graft due to a dog attack, poor man).

8 - DD just brought me a cup of tea and a buttered scone, and tried to encourage me to do some work LOL

9 - It's Friday, I have a full long weekend ahead and time to spend with DH (at the Climate Camp, in the garden, around London...) now that we have solved the worst of the problems we are really feeling close together again. Thanks God.

Have a lovely time today my friends xxx
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

Its only lunchtime and already I'm up to 5!
    1. The satisfaction of seeing my newly dug flower bed - no flowers in it yet, but daffs planted for a spring burst! More plants coming soon - care of my mums garden!
    2. Watching my youngest draw flowers for me (out of the chalk I found in the soil) all over the driveway! Now you have flowers in your garden Mummy!
    3. Finding that my boys have emptied a whole bag of OH's pintacks all over the grass - I've wanted to throw them away for ages!
    4. Finding what I think are strawberry suckers peeking under the fence from next door - does this mean I might get free Strawbs next year?
    5. The puppy food that I ordered yesterday arriving this morning - Fantastic service.

    :))))))

  • Hi
Back again after a few days away caring for DGD (aged 2), as her mum was down with swine flu and a secondary infection. SIL is self employed, so needed to get back to his work. I now have huge admiration for those who look after toddlers full time, it must be the most exhausting job in the world!
    So my five for yesterday.
    1. Seeing my lovely daughter well again, it was a worrying time for us, as this dreadful flu seems to be quite serious.
    2. Rapturous welcome from the dog.
    3. Cat deigned to notice me, very briefly then rushed to his food bowl and demanded treats.
    4. OH and I made a leisurely trip home- we live about 200 kms from DD, so we took a whole day to get home, just stopping for coffee, exploring a village we hadn't been to before, and actually visiting a mall
    5. Its sooooooooo good to be home.

    Blessings be
    Jennie
