Five OS Pleasures in your day today
Comments
-
1) Made a couple of pots of garden jam today - 2 windfall apples and some odd blackberries we have growing up the side of the garage. One positive aspect of having a neglected garden
2) Bought 2 net curtains for 99p each today (Oxfam, of course). I really dislike net curtains on principle but our house is set slightly down from the road and people can't help looking in as they pass by.
3) New (to me) dress for £7 from Cancer Research Shop. As you can see, I went on a bit of a spree. Also got a parking ticket! Poo! But I'm already working on ways of neutralising the cost of that.
4) DS is bringing his girlfriend round for a meal while we're out. They have no money so I bunged a chilli in the slow cooker and found some chocolate muffins crammed into the freezer that really ought to be eaten. Home grown wedges to go with it.
5) An invitation to go to MIL and FIL's over the weekend. Haven't seen them for a bit so I'm really looking forward to it.0 -
Todays blessings:-
1) Freezing down more of the harvest (runner beans today)
2) Walking in the rain, not heavy but got caught in it while walking pup, lovely and cooling!
3) Being at the end of the phone when my dd needed me - she had the beginning of a hemiplegic migraine (really bad one) and phoned me through it as she made her way home. Luckily she had her medication on her and her bf was at home to look after her when she got there. She has just phoned and although very sleepy with some pins and needles she is feeling better! phew!
4) Sorting through latest order from approved foods - lots of soba noodles as we love stir fries, blackcurrant ice cream sauce, lasagne sauce, olives, pasta and pup got lots of dental sticks and pigs ears so she is happy too!
5) A cup of camomile tea and a sudoku puzzle book!
I love this thread, it is very uplifting! :AOur days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

Morning
Oh well another windy, grizzly day here in Merseyside.
Caterina -at you feeling young with your kids and their friends around - I used to feel exactly the same way. Just wait till they've give you grandchildren - they'll put absolute years on you then . It's good to hear your routine is getting back to 'normal' again
.
Reverbe - glad to hear that you 'save' all your found coins and don't just drop em in your pocket - good to have an idea how much it adds up to and then you get a proper treat with them.
newlywed/Louba - :T I'm finding your postings about 'digestive issues' very interesting as my DD has been diagnosed with IBS and she's struggling to find something to 'work' for her. Those books sound useful so I'll recommend that she gets to the local library and have a look for them.
Patchwork - grrrrr  at your parking ticket - that's not really not nice - hope you manage a way to 'neutralise' it. How kind of you to provide a meal for your DS and g/f - they'll love that :grin).
catznine - we've had some of that cool rain here today too (with a bit of wind) and I'm loving the cooler temps too. Well done on your bean harvest/freezing.
Louba - :T on finding your unexpected £20 - how lovely of your DSis.
1. Had a 'bit of a panic' yesterday morning when I got a call from a tenant in distress. Called an ambulance and then found our this morning that he's had a heart attack. He's phoned me today to say thanks for dealing with it so quickly - what a really lovely gent he is.
2. Yesterday's tenant viewing went ok but we've been left with a problem that HAS to be sorted asap. The previous tenant had a [STRIKE]slight[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]moderate[/STRIKE] rather serious continence issue and most of the flooring (dense mdf as it's upstairs) is going to need to come up and be re-laid BEFORE the property can be occupied again. We had to leave the windows slightly open to try to disperse the problem but it isn't going away by itself.
3. DD's property viewing got postponed to this morning and she has gone there now. I've got dgd2 for the time being - currently fast asleep in the Land of Nod (or should that be 'In The Night Garden')
4. I've got the SC on at the moment and it smells delish - chicken thighs/drumsticks with HM stock, tin chopped tomatoes, pre-soaked mixed beans, chopped onions, garlic, chopped mixed peppers, 2 extra chicken stock cubes, celery salt and dried mixed herbs. Should be ready around 6.00pm and I'll serve with mashed pots. Looks like there'll be quite a bit of stock/beans left over so I might 'whizzie' it to make some soup out of - that will do lunch for tomorrow.
5. I've taken a gammon shank out of the freezer to go in the SC tonight - love doing these overnight. Shank stew tomorrow evening .
That's me just about done for now - I'll call back in again during the day to see how y'all doing - love Ollie xxx0 -
Back from my holidays! Had a great time in Scotland and everyone I came across was so friendly. Dog has been walked to within an inch of its life and I have stiff legs. The Fringe was definitely an experience. I have a lot of this thread to catch up on so I'm thinking I should do it tonight with a glass of wine! Mine so far for today are
1. Made jam with DD2 from all the blackberries we picked on Monday evening. Never done it before but it has been a success! Going to make some scones later to go with it.
2. Bedroom has finally been finished and have now ordered a new wardrobe and drawers.(Got a good deal thats the MS part).
3. Late birthday present from a friend. Chocolates, wine and a lovely Vanilla Bourbon candle.
4. Hearing my friends plans to emigrate. Although I will miss her terribly I am still excited for her.
5. Looking forward to sleeping in my bedroom tonight and not on the living room floor!
Love to all.0 -

Hi all
Newlywed, thanks for the details on the gut book, will look it up. At the moment I am making Kefir (using grape juice rather than milk - not terribly fond of dairy) from a Kefir grain that I received from another OSer and this has the reputation for healing the gut, so I shall let you know how it goes.
Ollie - don't scare me with tales of grandchildren, I am still just recovering from having looked after the twins for all these years LOL!
Here are my pleasures for the day:
1 - Up early, made soda fruit scones for breakfast, loved by all!
2 - Because up so early I managed to get my work all done before 11am
3 - Got to Chiropodist and now my feet are all nice and soft (and I recoup the cost from the health insurance!).
4 - Lovely lunch of rice and lentils with veg from our garden, with DD
5 - The massage lady came to treat my back, lovely massage and the back is not aching quite as much anymore, thanks God!
6 - One left scone, had it with a cup of tea earlier on
7 - Cooked beans ready to be mixed with sauce, then it will be H/M baked beans with jacket potatoes and peas with fried onions for dinner (nice and easy, DD and her BF said they will do the bulk of the work).
8 - Rejoined Virgin Media, got the basic TV and phoneline for £11 per month and persuaded them to waive the installation fee as I am a returning client (I am not so chuffed about this but DS has been pestering me about wanting a working TV again and I thought that £11 per month is a small price to pay for having him home more in the evenings).
Have a great evening everybody xxxFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Hello again folks; here we go for today:
1. Harvested some more tomatoes from the plants on my patio this morning.
2. Mr LW has volunteered to cook our dins tonight because I've been feeling poorly today.
3. Found some chocolate I'd forgotten about - I'd put it in the fridge so that the canine house-guest we had last week couldn't get hold of it.
4. It's raining, but I'm tucked up indoors on the sofa, under a blanket.
5. Mr LW will be working from home tomorrow, so I'll have some company. If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0
