Five OS Pleasures in your day today
Comments
-
Morning!
1 - selling a jacket that had been hanging in my wardrobe for years!
2 - lovely plums for lunch
3 - slowly eating up the veg mountain in the fridge and feeling very virtuous
4 - getting a very funny video clip from a friend - I wish I could attach it here as it made me laugh out loud!
5 - Finding £14 in an unused savings account, always nice
Have a good Thursday!
LxMortgage as at March 2010 £225,000 target for December 2012 £170,000. Blog link http://beautifulorpractical.blogspot.com/2010/07/oh-this-is-all-new.html :j0 -
Reverbe, how are you not a millionnaire by now with all the money you find?
Ok the flatmate had some good luck lately - thats cos he goes out to work every day at about 5 am and there is an alleyway where ppl stand to drink- you always see bottles n cans there- as we have a no booze in public ban in our town. It's also near a cab firm where ppl might have pulled out money to pay. Plus we live right in the town centre and ppl do tend to drop money at tills and dont bother picking it up - Post Office and WH Smith tend to be good for this.
I used to find a lot on weekend mornings near a parking meter but havent found any there for a long time. What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0 -
Hi all!
Reverbe, now flatmate is finding money, it's catching! WOW! Good stuff!
Patchwork Quilt: a word of warning, once you start making homemade baked beans there is no return, nobody will ever want the tinned variety anymore (don't I know...)!
Newlywed: glad to see that someone else is, like me, considers the rain (within measure) a blessing! Yesterday someone's comment that "it is a miserable day" saddened me and I replied: "no, it is only wet". The rain (and water in general) is such a wonderful gift and yet so many people take it for granted!
Bella, good to see you back!
Welcome to Suzybloo!
Here is my stuff for yesterday, a day of treats and pampering in advance of going away next Monday:
1 - Facial (complimentary) at Origins and very cheap purchase due to £10 birthday voucher (that I saved for this occasion).
2 - Complimentary samples from Origins.
3 - Ridiculously cheap pedicure at Aveda, due to voucher I saved for this occasion (I have bought their stuff for ages, saved all the points and eventually it has paid back!). FABULOUS magenta toenails!
4 - Met friend in town and had a Chinese meal (she paid because last time I paid!).
5 - Ice cream treat in town before coming back home (ah wow, it was great, forget the calories!).
6 - This is a dubious pleasure I supoose, but as it is part of the pampering I shall put it in: full leg and bikini wax (OUCH!!!!!!) - the really nice part is that the beautician is very reasonably priced and comes to my home - cheaper than going to the salon and I can scream in the safety of my four walls! She is also very nice and funny, so there is "some" pleasure to be had in this. Of course, the best part is to see the smooth fuzz free legs at the end!
7 - DD and her BF cooked veggie sausage casserole, we had cooked greens from last night and DD's BF had brought a couple of amazing cakes from the patisserie where he is training to be a pastry chef.
Today is not quite finished yet but these are my pleasures so far:
1 - DH brought me tea and toast in bed because I was feeling woozy, I really appreciated that!
2 - I did not need to go to the nurse for a weigh-in because she had cancelled, at least I will go to the south of France happily ignorant of my hippo-status!
3 - The Virgin media man came and re-installed the TV services - this is a VERY DUBIOUS pleasure for me but DH and the kids get great pleasure out of TV watching, so it must be good for me, too.
4 - Managed to get down to work early and now I am nearly finished for the day.
5 - Planning to meet friend who is nannying in this area later on.
6 - The rain! It has rained sufficiently to feed our garden and to refill our water butts. Great stuff.
That's all for now, but I am open to more and more beauty and pleasure as the day goes by.
Love to all! xxxFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Hi all,
Caterina - I hate the rain if I'm waiting for a bus that doesn't turn up, but other than that, quite like it. OH loves to sit and listen to the rain and watch it (usually from somewhere dry though).
1. The rain again, doing the job of watering the garden.
2. The air smelling fresh and clear after all that rain (seems to help the hayfever).
3. Watching the clouds go by out of the window, with splashes of blue sky in between.
4. Realising my shopping list for the week is much smaller than I thought (thankfully as I've already spent more than I ought to have done).
5. Ordering Economy Gastronomy bookworking on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
Good Morning  - still cold, windy and damp here today
bella - Well done on sorting out your spare room :j. Can I just ask, please, do you roast your Turkey Drumstick or do it in the SC? I've only done them in the SC but find them very fiddly to get the sinews out of - was wondering if roasting is any easier.
Louba - Wow - forgotten money- all the better for spending as you didn't realise it was there :rotfl:.
Reverbe - good to see that some of your luck is now rubbing off on your flatmate too.
Caterina - some good pampering there.
newlywed - hope you enjoy your Economy Gastronomy book.
Oh dear, I think I may have been the one to mention miserable weather- up here we seem to have wind AND rain for weeks now. I DO appreciate the rain in this country (it's what makes it such a 'green and pleasant land') and I love seeing waterfalls after heavy rainfall - the power within them is awesome BUT I just wish that we could have a bit of an 'easing off' for a few days. It's been so bad that we haven't been able to keep on top of the grass cutting/strimming. We need a few dry days to be able to get out into the garden and strim BEFORE we can even make a start with the lawn-mower - if we do it at the moment both items will just get totally clogged up and make the job even harder as we have to keep stopping to clean them as we go along. At least my water butt is full to the top :j.
1. Tenants' Federation Meeting (Anti-Social Behaviour) yesterday with freebie buffet lunch thrown in :j. Good meeting with some great strategy plans for dealing with the subject. Signed up for Community Crime Champions training course in November - good to see so many people interested and it makes you feel that you're not the only person concerned about bad behaviour in the neighbourhood.
2. Had to visit a tenant who had lost his cheque book (ages ago) and then found his bank account had been 'cleared out' - poor guy hadn't reported the loss to the bank at the time. Had to persuade him to contact his son as he really wanted to keep it a secret from his family. We are under very strict instructions NOT to get involved with anything to do with money/bank accounts/benefits apart from assisting with form filling.
3. After planning Turkey Casserole (defrosted from freezer) with jacket potatoes, we went to DD's house (so OH could see it and also to take more stuff there) and then got a takeaway as it was so late- but have to admit it was a delicious Chicken Chow Mein . So..........
4. Turkey Casserole and jacket pots for evening meal tonightand no planning involved :rotfl:.
5. Only one item of laundry to be dried today and that will have to go on the upstairs bannister (the quilted summer throw from my bed). I've no intention of stepping out into the rear garden - not even for the bin! Plantpots etc are all over the garden and they can stay there until the winds die down again.
6. Mobile hairdresser is due tomorrow to tackle my locks - desperately need tidying up at the moment.
7. Eye test appointment at Specsavers tomorrow afternoon - it's past the two years now and I KNOW there's some deterioration.
That's me done for this morning. Hope we all have great OS moneysaving days today - love Ollie xxxx0 -
My five for yesterday
1. Coffee and homemade cakes with two good friends.
2. Text message from a friend I hadn't heard from in a while.
3. Husband and DD2 making Grasmere gingerbread (smelt great)
4. Having had the time to clean the house top to bottom.
5. Wuthering Heights on Sky plus.
Another one could be the sight of DH in an apron! Not sure what inspired the baking - he normally only does 'heating up', but it's very good.
Ollie, I know what you mean about this weather. I live 'up north' as well and the rain doesn't seem to have stopped at all recently. I had to drive through floods on Monday evening to collect my sister from the station. She had been in London and the weather had been beautiful! I'm looking forward to the cold, crisp, clear autumn days. Kicking leaves about and drinking hot chocolate.
Love to all.0 -
Ah the rain! Took me 45 minutes to get to work this morning, it should take 15! Didn't think I lived far enough away to argue that it was a non essential journey
Ollie What a terrible thing to happen to your tennant, hope it gets sorted out.
1 - Yay it's Friday and I don't have to paint or clean this weekend!
2 - one week to holidays!
3 - Gradually getting through my massive in tray at work
4 - lovely new recipe for dinner last night, very successful
5 - just off for bacon rolls - well it is friday
LxMortgage as at March 2010 £225,000 target for December 2012 £170,000. Blog link http://beautifulorpractical.blogspot.com/2010/07/oh-this-is-all-new.html :j0 -
Ollie - DD's house sounds interesting, I love anything quirky. Hope she settles in well. Turkey drumstick, sadly it just doesn't fit into my slow cooker so when I have a joint in my small top oven on a Sunday (we're out all morning) I pop the drumstick in as well. Both are covered and slow roasted and turn out delish after about 3 hours @ 150 deg.
Yesterday's pleasures:-
1. With help from DH the house was cleaned from top to bottom.
2. I did a fair bit of sorting out as we went and feel much better this morning. I love my little visitors to bits and have thoroughly enjoyed going out with them in the hols. but I needed to clear a path so that life can continue.
3. Dried some of the bedding on the line as the rain we were forecast didn't come until later.
4. Buying a gadget in Poundland to angle my lap top when using it on the table. It's brill. and makes typing much easier.
5. Lovely Frittatta for tea made with a homegrown courgette.

Hi
1. Finding a heritage open day history tour of the streets where I grew up - and it's free - so have booked for me and sis to go. Seem to be strangely intrigued by local history at the moment.
2. Juggling the freezer round and finding more space to get ys olive ciabatta rolls into
3. Being pleased the police turned up last night - someone was trying to break down the door to the adjoining block of flats at 3 am. I know they get a lot of criticism but they dealt with the issue quickly and calmly - and we got a few hours sleep at least
4. Reading a library book on gardening and realising how much money I saved in not buying the book (it wasn't that great)
5. My garden plants all still being alive - that's nearly a week now :rotfl: my first bit of gardening in ages so it's an achievement!!
6. The fridge and freezer being crammed full - even if I spent more than I should yesterday (it was all on deals of stuff we use - apart from the ys pain au chocolat and the ys chocolate mousse pots )
7. Finding the final plant I want for our border being sold on ebay by a nursery place (a smaller plant too which is what I want) - hoping I get it coz the smaller plant is cheaper than I've seen online and the garden center don't have them at the moment.working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0
