Hello y'all  - a beautiful saturday morning here - hope it's the same for the rest of you .

Was 'missing in action' yesterday due to work chaos - but hey, what's new :rotfl:.

First of all, :T thank you for all your lovely comments on my posts - as I've said before, my way of replying is partly down to my bad memory (I'm a woman-of-a-certain-age who lives her life by lists of one kind or another) plus it helps me to focus on the 'person' behind the postings. I've received so much support from this board and THIS thread in particular, I feel it's only right and proper to return some to the rest of you.

billy858 - so good to hear that your dd's are both improving ((((big hugs)))) for them both. The butterflies are lovely this year - I've planted some freebie wildflower seeds in an old recycling container and we've been inundated with them - trying to get hold of some more for next year :). mmm fish and chips by the sea - doesn't get any better than that ;)!
thriftyscotslass - love the image of your oh and dd sympathising about being 'mummed' - what a fabulous way of putting it :rotfl:. And now your ds has been 'mummed' too lol.
scrummymummy - so sorry to hear about your family friend's news - can't begin to understand how they must be feeling - and how awful for you and yours just as your brother leaves ((((BIG HUGS)))) for you all. That 'dreamfeeding' seems to be really paying off for you :). And congrats on your 'reverbe' ;).
Kittikins - :T on entering the mummy race and how sweet of your dd to let you have her medal. Are there any other single mums in your area - maybe others are feeling the same? What about the 'parents group' in school? Congratulations on your LL group (not sure what it is - but sounds diet related) and good news on your referral bonus.
PatchworkQuilt - well done on getting the bargain fruit trees - jam-making next year? Also on making the 2 chicken breasts stretch to all those portions :money:. Good news on the mascara - I'm off for a nosey for the link when I'm done on here ;).
Louba - what are dad's like on the phone, eh! Mine was just the same - 'hello - here's your mum!' :rotfl:. Good news on the breakthrough with the work colleague - some people take longer than others. At 18 (1969) I worked with a much older woman who didn't appear to like me very much, in 1980 she became godmother to my DD and I was so pleased that neither of us had given up on the relationship at the beginning. You gonna HAVE to hide that hoover from your OH, girl - how dare he interfere and unblock it :rotfl:.
savingforoz - another 'reverbe' :j! Hope you manage to sort out your problem in work - it's not nice when things are unsettling - bad for morale all round. Sounds like you've got great plans for the weekend .
newlywed - :T to your OH for openly recognising his problem - first hurdle overcome and now onto the next one - accepting help :). Well done on your charity shop cookery books - that's where I get mine from. Then copy out the recipes that I really want into a word document on the comp, save in 'My Recipes Folder' and print off. I've got a 'project folder' with my most used recipes in plastic pockets - really easy to wipe clean when they get splashed with the foodmixer :rotfl:. Then the books go back to the shop to get sold again - I get rid of clutter and the shop makes more money! WTG on the £20 - how many cookery books can you buy with THAT ;)!!!
mineallmine - thanks for those links - copied and saved ;) - some good things in there.
bella - good to hear you're all enjoying the holiday - make the most of that beach, girl greensmilies-024.gif
Courgette - sorry to hear you had a bad day (((hug))) - take your time - these things can't be rushed. Just remember your hormones are all mixed up at the moment. Your H2B sounds wonderful and maybe this race is just what you both need - but don't go too crazy at the training just now - let your GP know what you intend doing. Hope you had a good chat with the photographer :). Enjoy your cat-sitting emoticon-animal-011.gif!
Nitha - great when the 'cross-generations' have so much fun together ;). :j on the whoopsies and bargains.
Caterina - Oh dear - sorry to hear about your massage session - coming home smelling of 'pizza' :(. Happy birthday for last Wednesday sounds like you had a great day with family. :rotfl: at rubber salad - a new one on me!
LameWolf - ouch on the fall - be careful girl! Sounds like you and Molly-dog are having fun together ;).
zarazara - good to hear your 'hero' is on his way home for a while - enjoy each other's company .
Reverbe - love the sound of your porridge - never thought of adding stuff to it like that  - now where are those chocolate chips (hope I've not scoffed them already :o). Sorry to hear about your experience on the tube - one of the things that I don't miss about living in London !
helyg - just jump on board! Hope you enjoy your camping trip and the weather stays good for you all. Christmas chutney - oh heck is it that time of year already !
purpledreams - :T on being brave enough to go swimming - and 22 lengths - you go girl!!!!! Hope things get better with the family (((hugs))).

Here's mine for the past couple of days:

    1. Now this is one that we've been expecting for a couple of weeks - not really a 'pleasure/blessing' as such - but :rotfl:! DS1's g/f 'has got' swineflu! No - honestly - the girl just has to have 'Munchausen's Syndrome'. She has had everything (and I mean everything!) under the sun and we've been taking bets on how soon she would have this as well. She was in the Army, trained in Mountain Rescue but has vertigo! Was supposed to visit us on holiday this year, but got 'water on the brain' and had to have a brain scan, lumbar puncture and a 5-day stay in hospital while it was investigated - 'nothing' discovered. Supposed to join all our family for Boxing Day get-together, but got 'stomach pains' - turned out to be 'so-called ovarian cysts' which she since has claimed was a miscarriage. She accompanied my DD to the hospital last week when she had stomach pains and advised her to exaggerate her symptoms to get the dr to take her seriously.

I have great sympathy for anybody who really has got Swineflu because I know the fear it's putting into people - especially for those frail, very young, elderly, repressed immune systems, pregnant etc.

Please don't think I'm a cruel wicked m-i-l to be - but we've had this girl around for three years now and she never fails to amaze us all with her outlandish stories. My comment about Munchausen's Syndrome was actually done tongue-in-cheek - but if she really does have it, I wish there was some way of making her understand this and getting her the help she appears to need.

    2. Going to spend some time with my mum for a week. Sis has gone on holiday to Lesbos, so I get to stay in her house :j and use her gorgeous new kitchen .

    3. DD had a phone call to say that the house she was after has already been let to somebody else :(, but she rang my niece who has put her in touch with HER landlord - so could be something else in the offing pretty soon - fingers crossed.

    4. Beautiful weather here the past few days - lots of laundry done and dried on the line.

    5. NSD's this week :T - and used up lots of stuff from the freezer and leftovers.

    6. Prepped a cauli that was sitting in my fridge drawer. It's now sitting in the freezer for when I return next week - just know that OH won't be [STRIKE]asred[/STRIKE] bothered to use it and then it would stink the fridge out!

    7. Made a Banana Loaf (Mrs Beeton's recipe with walnuts and sultanas in it) and two Lemon Drizzle Cakes. Will take the Banana Loaf and one of the Lemon Drizzle Cakes to mum's with me - OH can have the other one.

Will try to get in next week -need to use sis's comp.

Hope we all have a great weekend with lots of OS and Money-Saving :money:. Take care all (((((Hugs))))) for all - love Ollie xxx

We have a lady in our office like this - but with her it is related to her personality disorder. I work with people with a range of disabilities so she has plenty of inspiration. Over the last 4 months she has "had" a ruptured appendix, gallstones, ovarian cysts, a heart attack, fybromyalgia, arthritis, swine flu, a dislocated knee, two fractured wrists, several migraines, dissassociative seizures, a couple of dodgy tummy episodes.........

I know it is part of the condition that there is a higher than average (read much higher) "use of medical facilities," but part of me (which I then feel bad about) gets frustrated at (a) having to cover her work all the time as she's had 1.5 weeks out of each month off, and (b) that at least 5 ambulances have been called in that time and several hospital admissions so maybe really poorly people are missing out as a result.

    Anyway, my five;
    • Admiring the boring table that has been painted and varnished and looks much nicer now.
    • Feeling smug for coming home from town thinking everything was very expensive and treating myself to a dress for £4 on eB4y
    • Watching the new kitten find new places to launch himself onto big sis from :rotfl:
    • Picking up a pair of curtains for £1 as they needed a wash - they've come up great and will make a door sausage, cushion covers and a roman blind.
    • A lovely, lovely man offering a very expensive camera on freecycle for one of my lovely disabled ladies who has always wanted to do photography at college. Can't wait for her next appointmen to give it to her! :j
  • Hi chaps. Here are my five for today

    1) Sitting outside on the seat DH put in the garden, with my favourite magazine
    2) Making blackberry and apple jam with the rest of the berries. I nipped round with a couple of tiny jars for next-door's boys and they were so pleased.
    3) Going for our 'date' with DH - an hour having coffee at the local cafe
    4) Scrounging more tiny jars from another local cafe - they don't recycle there for some reason, and are happy to pass the jars on instead of putting them straight in the bin
    5) Hearing DS and DD upstairs. He plays guitar and she sings. It sounds lovely

    My five for today
    1. Only the bedroom walls left to paint!
    2. Long walk with DD's and dog this evening.
    3. Giving away some items on freecycle to very grateful recipients.
    4. Treating myself to a slow cooker. Going to try and do a chilli tomorrow.
    5. Not having to put the washing machine on(for once).
It still seems very quiet on this thread at the moment. Hope everyone is ok.

Hi:hello: just dropping by to say hello and report that the holiday is going well. Ollie we are certainly making the most of the beach, although it was a bit chilly today down there with a stiff breeze coming off the sea. Hope you have a good break when you visit your mum.

Not too much OSing going on here at the moment but we have had a NSD if you don't count the £2 each I gave to the DGK's.

Hi all and thank you very much for the birthday wishes, I had a truly blessed week, had so much fun and so many interesting adventures!

Anyway, missed the last three days so here I go with some pleasures at random that happened to me in the last few days:

1 - Free blues concert in St James Piccadilly with two dear friends

2 - Great time with said friends wandering about London, looking at jewellery in Bond Street, getting makeovers in Selfridges and generally being silly and teenage-like even if we are all well over 19!

3 - DH back! Oh it is such a lovely thing to cuddle up to my dear dear dear love after a whole week!

4 - Saturday I had my official birthday party - I cannot even start counting the innumerable blessings of all my friends coming in, bringing food, birthday cards and gifts, I am so truly truly grateful to be surrounded by so much love and fun!

5 - One blessing that stands out in particular is the gift from DD's BF who made me a magnificent profiterole pyramid and also a superb meringue cake filled with creme patissiere and decorated with thin strands of chocolate - amazing stuff, I used these (together with my friend's lemon drizzle cake) to stick a random number of birthday candle and blow them!

6 - The weather on Saturday, blissful and just right for a garden party!

7 - Sunday morning first breakfast of leftovers from party

8 - Sunday late morning "brunch" breakfast made by DS, who brought it to me and DH in bed, of fried egg on pitta with sour cream and salsa - yummy!

9 - Finding the chocolates from the party that I had forgotten hidden in a cupboard!

10 - Long walk with DH, through Greenwich Park and back along the river walk.

11 - Friends around to dinner to help finish leftovers. Dinner consisted of a few bits of leftovers but amply supplemented by EXTREMELY local vegetable dishes - potatoes from their garden, beetroots, greens (cicoria, for the Italians among you), salad and tomatoes from our garden.

12 - First crop of beans is ready, gave some to the Indian family two doors down from us, tomorrow I shall cook some for us.

    Good night everybody xxx
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
  • It certainly is very quiet. Here goes:

    1) Three hours of gardening - mostly chopping and weedkilling - but I did manage to plant the pear tree in some very poor soil with a bag of compost to get it going
    2) Baked tortilla for lunch with leftover sausages in it
    3) More jam. Can't get it to set this year. DS thinks I may have lost my touch but I discovered the very liquid stuff is very good for the bottom of a trifle
    4) Decimated the ironing pile. It's been looking at me for a while
    5) Pinching ideas from the menu planning thread. I need to get to grips with ours. I used to have a monthly plan and I aim to get back into it.

Hi Patchwork Quilt, that's what I thought too, being the first to post today - you must have been writing as I was, too!

Ah well, with such a lovely weather, everybody must be still out and about, or tired from the beach/park/walkabouts/barbecues...?

Have a good night all! xxx

  • Evening everyone :hello:
Sorry - I've been away from the thread for the past week as DH, DS1 and I have all had swine flu so have self-isolated for the week and have done very little. Thought it would be a good time for some NSD's but on the contrary - have spent every day and have gone a bit skew-whiff on the grocery challenge as someone else has done the shopping for me (which I'm obviously grateful for) but planning has been terrible last week.

    mine for today

    1. went swimming for the 1stt ime in 4 yrs (im 7st overweight so this was a challange)
    2. Completed 22 lenghts of the pool ;-)
    3. made a schedule for next week
4.walked instead of catching the bus
    5. arranged to spend time with family ( big effort as massive rift)

Haven't fully caught up on the thread but, wow - purple - that's a very positive 5 pleasures/blessings. Well done :T very inspirational.

    Here are my five:
    1) Like lots of other OS ers - it's jam time! Plum jam, blackcurrant jam, blackcurrant cordial and raspberry jam made yesterday and today.
    2) Pear and plum crumble for dessert tonight.
    3) The ladybird swarm has now gone so we've at least been able to go into the garden comfortably without being pelted by them!
    4) Keeping in touch with everyone through email, facebook and phone (and on here, of course). Sometimes new-style can be good!
    5) We've all been quarantined together but we've all got on fabulously and there have been relatively few squabbles!
    6) At least we got it before our exciting Legoland/Walking with Dinosaur trip in a couple of weeks.
