Hugs Ollie, hope your weekend is hectic in a good way :)

Today has been lovely for me and DD:

    1. Getting some housework done this morning but it didn't feel like a chore, more fun as we were helping each other.
    2. Making the nicest looking fairy cakes, complete with icing and sprinkles to take to a picnic I'd organised for kids who were leaving nursery to go to big school.
    3. Unfortunately none of them turning up! :( BUT, a lovely new friend we met a couple of months ago (who Claudia calls her "big brother" and his mum who is fabulous too) came along and we spent over 5 hours playing and chatting in the sunshine, and the parents who said they'd come but then didn't bother turning up, really missed out on a chilled, fun day. Luckily I'd not talked about the picnic much to DD, as I didn't want to build it up in her mind and then be disappointed, so she only asked where one boy was, and didn't care that it was just her and friend running around and enjoying each other's company. Phew!
    4. DD eating home-grown potatoes for dinner tonight and pronouncing them delicious :)
    5. Feeling the sun shining today, knowing that the washing was going to be dry and that the garden would grow nicely and that my skin wouldn't burn as I'd remembered to put some lotion on :)

Hawksley - welcome to a happier healthier more fun way of life. Seems to me the need for money just gernerates the need for money as we can always want more than we have, but there really is satisfaction in managing with what we have got. Ollie - thanks for stopping by to say hello so that we don't worry about you. Don't get too busy.

    Today's pleasures:-

    1. Taking DGD to a craft demo which she thoroughly enjoyed.

    2. HM soup and HM roll for lunch.

    3. Packing a bag of card making stuff ready to take on holiday.

    4. Making lists of what to take on holiday, what to buy when we get there and what to eat during our fortnight away.

    5. Sorting out the freezer so that the HM ready meals, the joint for Sunday lunch and the HM bread I am taking with me are all ready to slot into the cool box as we leave. I have even checked that they all fit into the cool box. Phew - never been this organized before. I have even frozen mint sauce to go with the lamb.

    Ollie is this OS enough?

    Bella.

My blessings to cover such a long time are goodies!

    Hi all

Here are my pleasures for the day:

1 - Breakfast of my homemade baked beans on toast (I must remember to soak more haricot beans as the last batch is nearly finished!).

2 - Long lie-in finishing a book that a friend of mine gave me, very good, funny and sad at the same time (I cried at the end!).

3 - DD and her BF made a lovely "all in" leftovers and mix veg soup for lunch, it was one of the best soups I have had for a long time!

4 - Tomorrow DD's BF's parents are coming to have dinner here and I have got all the shopping done and dusted so I can concentrate in making the house look at least semi-presentable and they won't feel that they have to get vaccinations before they step over the threshold!

5 - Watered the gardens, front and back, together with DH

6 - While I was here on the computer DH brought me a nice cup of tea, bless!

    Good night everybody!

    xxx
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

    1. The fresh smell in the air when I opened the front door to pick the milk up this morning.

    2. Other half suprising me by taking and collecting my coat from dry cleaners - it was a lovely gesture, he was making up for getting paint on it!

    3. Feeling the sun on my face when I was outside a shop waiting for OH.

    4. Seeing the lovely golden colour the wheat has turned to, and the feeling that harvest's bounty is just around the corner.

    5. Seeing the finished product of a lovingly restored desk I bought from a charity shop.

The best things in life are definitely free. The second best are cheap :rotfl:
I have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off :o

  • Evening everyone :)

Not had so many recently, being holed up with the dreaded swine flu, but on the road to recovery now so here's a few for today

1 - going up to the allotment for the first time in a week coming back with a load of courgettes and runner beans

2 - going to Mersea Island, picking some samphire from the marsh and watching thge sunset with my husband

    3 - starting to feel better :)

  • Nice to hear from you again Jollymummy and hugs to those with bugs!

    1) Going out for the day with DH and taking a picnic to keep costs down.
    2) A riverboat trip. I always wonder whether they are worth it but then we do enjoy a lazy cruise along a river and seeing things from a different angle.
    3) Seeing apple trees planted in a municipal car park. At last! I've always said that councils should plant fruit trees wherever they can.
    4) Evening meal made from scraps in the fridge and freezer
    5) A quiet evening patchworking and setting up coffee dates with friends.

My 5 for the last three days as I have been laptopless -

    1. Lunch a la mum and dad at a lovely local cafe
    2. A lovely walk along a seafront and pier with my parents and my son.
    3. Clearing out all my kitchen cupboards and cleaning them out so my kitchen looks lovely.
    4. Defrosting my freezer and saving almost everthing in there, sadly we lost the mini milks.
    5. Watching a play at the local amphitheatre with my son who really enjoyed it, a surprise as he is only 16 months old and I thought he would not be able to stay interested for an hour but he was an angel.

    ............ how I wish, Kittikins!

DD is in the process of having her house repossessed, following the break-up of her relationship with the father of two of her three children. He promised to continue paying the mortgage, which he hasn't done and not given her any money either. Now 7mths arrears on the payments. She's had her benefits claim stopped, Council Tax won't believe that he's moved out and are charging her full CT on the property - his mother won't admit that he's living with her as she will lose her 25% single person reduction - hasn't listed him as resident or for electoral roll! DD has now developed IBS and is crippled with the usual symptoms - probably stress related. Kids have broken up from school - so she doesn't get any peace at all during the day (aged 11, 8 and 20mths!). She's been up and down to my house every day, bringing the kids, to make phone calls about benefits, mortgage, court appearance, CSA, citizens advice, council tax etc.

During the week (Tuesday 3.30am) there was an arson attack at one of the properties in my sheltered scheme - nobody hurt, but the rear gate to somebody's garden was completely burnt down in the middle of the night by 'some hooligan' placing a wheelie bin against it and setting the bin on fire. The fire woke half of the tenants, which upset them all. Police decided to come and view the damage on Friday at 5.00 (I finish work at 4.30!) - besides which the gate had been replaced by then, which I did tell the police!! Which leads into the next bit.....................

DS2, his g/f and their two ds's (age 7 and 1) moved house a few weeks ago and have had to empty, scrub, modernise and decorate it right the way through. OH and I have been minding the children as and when we can - luckily I work from home - so I've been able to fit them in with my work duties. A couple that they are friendly with got married on Friday, and as they really needed some relaxation time, they went along to the wedding. G/f's parents took the boys during the day and we had them from 6.00pm onwards and overnight. The younger one (Billy-blue-eyes) is not the easiest of babies to look after as he screams blue-murder when he's tired and has to be held quite tightly and patted to get him to settle. That took ages and he went down around 9.00 - but he was up again at midnight. Got him back to sleep again after an hour and a half, only for him to wake as I lowered him into the cot. At that point I just ignored him and let him squawk - took another 20mins of non-stop screeching to exhaust him (I felt soooooooo guilty!). The little horror woke at 7.00am this morning with a beaming smile on his face - as pleasant as they come :A.

By 7.15am, I had the police at my front door. One of my tenants had pulled an emergency cord for help but the operators couldn't get any response from him. No answer from family phone numbers either so they called the police to check it out and gain entry. They rang the Fire Brigade to force the door in - and nobody inside the property . Whoever pulled the cord, must have left the building without answering - so all that damage was done for nothing. I then spent 3hrs waiting for someone to come and board up the smashed door to make the place secure - luckily ds arrived at 8.45am and took the two boys back home  - he was in work today for 10.00am.

DD asked me today, to help her have a sort-out of some of the kids toys - prior to the repossession (they'll have to go into a homeless family hostel) - so we've just spent five hours sorting, boxing, dumping (in neighbours bins so her ds won't spot the items and bring them back out again!). Going back tomorrow to make a start on clothes. DS1 has agreed to do some runs to the local tip for her if she gets stuff bagged ready to go.

Realised at 11.00pm tonight that I hadn't taken my Blood Pressure meds for today .

I'll be so glad when Monday comes, I'll be back in work for a rest .

The only os-ing I've done this week is to keep up-to-date with the laundry and managing to get it dried on the line/airers!

Also using up frozen left-over meals and nothing wasted.

Had a few NSD's due to being skint again (only got paid on the 15th - but I've loaned some out and will get it back at the end of the month!).

All the bills are paid by DD so I know that they've been covered and the freezers are all full - so we won't starve .

The mobile hairdresser came today, so I now look like a freshly-shorn sheep ;). At least I'll only use half as much shampoo and it'll only take minutes to dry .

Sorry for my rant - but thank you all for listening :T. Feels so much better to get all that stuff out of my system :o.

Nitey nite all - take care and God bless - love Ollie xxxx
