Good evening all!
Thank you Blimus for your comment about the Big Lunch, it was really good and everybody was delighted to have made contact with other neighbours, especially two older ladies, both in their 80s!
Anyway, here are my blessings of the day:
1 - Breakfast with a friend who came visiting after her early morning yoga class
2 - Grazia magazine arrived in the post so I spent some more time after my friend left reading and drinking tea
3 - Lunch with DD and her BF, salad and Poilane rye bread with hummus.
4 - It rained so I do not need to water the gardens again!
5 - I decided what to do for my birthday. On the Saturday after the birthday (the day itself is on a Weds.) I am having friends around for an afternoon "open house", asked people to bring food to share so I do not have to kill myself doing all the preparation. But for the week before that, I am going to have a "sensory week" and I have already found lots of lovely and free or low cost things to do here in London, including concerts, facial, meditation class, visit to a plant nursery (that also has a fav cafe that does cream teas), a green sunday event and many more! Perhaps I should give myself a "sensory year"!
Good night all
xxxFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
1) Saw Monsters v Aliens at the kids club at the cinema. Just £3.40 for both boys and I was free (as was parking). It was a great film and a great way to spend a very rainy morning.
2) DS2 made wooden spoon dinosaurs, 2 rice crispie cakes, decorated biscuit, shell plaster of paris plaque and a lovely card for me at his beach club (inside again cos of the rain).
3) Still experimenting from our cajun cookbook - creole chicken (not so great) and cream gravy (very great!).
4) 7p value packet custard mixed with some cocoa powder to make delish choc custard.
5) The very exciting news that my sister and family plan to move to Spain.DFW Nerd 941 Proud to be dealing with my debt
August GC £0/£3000 -
1) Had my hair done, still at the cheapest salon in town and it looks lovely. Why does having your hair done make you feel slimmer?
2) Made two jars of jam with my free allotment gooseberries and it set as soon as it boiled. It looks very pretty too, with all those seeds
3) Sat down and did a bit of patchwork today. This quilt is going to take me about five years.
4) It's using up week, so I'm being inventive. Fish pie and ratatouille today with lots of little bits and pieces in from the bottom of the fridge. Made some lemon fairy cakes with the last lemon
5) New curtains in the kitchen. Well, new to us. We found a pair of Laura Ashley curtains on ebay for half the usual price and still wrapped in the packet. They look very nice and I can feel fairly smug about the cost too.0 -
Just spent a lovely hour or so reading through everybody's posts, but shows I'm slipping as I haven't achieved an awful lot this past day or so
. However my small OS blessings are...
1. 2 NSD's
2. A very on and off rainy day but got the washing dry in the kitchen and finished off with the iron...not ideal but I don't have a dryer any more and would be reluctant to use it for just me anyway
3. Looked into the price of having eyebrows done and decided it was silly money so did them myself with the help of some instructions from my DNeighbour. I have to say I'm quite pleased with my handiwork, proving it's never to late to lean!
4. Freecycled some bed linen, speakers and my old printer...cleared out some of my trash and provided some FC'swith some treasure
5. Still thanking my lucky stars we live in a country with a free health service - had an assessment last week and tomorrow morning am having my meds updated, free of charge, so confident that life is going to be much easier from now on :T. Then there will be no excuse for just reading what others do, I'll be reporting my own full days!
Thanks everyone for writing such lovely posts and sharing your ups and downs..night night n God bless all, stay safe

Hi everybody :hello:
Had a busy couple of days in work - so some catching up to do with the posts. can't believe how quickly this thread grows. Good to see we are all seeing the 'positive' side of things, even in this recession.
Noah'sMum - great forward planning for the school holidays.
Shopndrop - wow, I didn't know anything about the £2 voucher from Asda - I'll certainly ask if it happens again. I'll definitely be double-checking receipts in future . Thanks for the heads-up on that one :T.
newnie - Happy Birthday for yesterday :bdaycake:- there's some more for the freezer. Well done on the Morrisons voucher and all the bargains.
mineallmine - congratulations on the self-restraint.
honey - well done on your cake-baking - he must have been impressed - young man of discernment. Good to hear you're feeling a bit better :j!
Caterina - does your OH give lessons to other OH's, please? Can't remember my last cuppa in bed;). Good news on the job hours! A 'sensory week' sounds a wonderful idea
.
newlywed - so good of you to think of your friend when your going through your own problems (((hugs))). I have to stash things at the end of the meal, if I want to stretch it to make further meals - just have to remember where I've put them while they cool down before freezing. Well done on the family research.
Louba - glad you found your necklace - I'm missing a silver chain at the moment and it's driving me potty as to where it can be. No doubt it'll turn up somewhere really stupid . :T on your 3month review.
zarazara - good OH - good friend - and a cuddly cat- life don't get much better than that
. :T on the freecycling.
purplegirl - sorry to hear you're not feeling 100% - take care- well done on keeping on top of things all the same :T.
SunnyGirl - sounds like you're another one who's got the summer hols sorted with the kids. lol at your no.3 - remember those days well myself . Eventually they do start to talk to each other because they WANT to and not because they HAVE to
.
Kittikins - you and your dd sounds as though you've got a brilliant relationship - a great team :T.
bella - thanks for the Date Scone Recipe - sounds lovely and will have a go at the weekend. I love dates, but my kids don't - so that's something that they'll leave alone :j:j - wicked Ollie . Lovely to hear you and OH can take pleasure in each other's company for breakfast. :T on the card-making.
Blimus - I've noticed the butterflies as well this year - well at least when the weather is good. Seen some beauties around here. Good tip for chocolate custard - thank you
.
grandmasam - I'd forgotten you were in Germany and was wondering how come you were picking blackberries :rotfl:. Well done - your ds and family will be very pleased. some more smilies for you:):):).
Rainbow - sounds like you had a good time with your dm. I'm going to visit mine in a couple of weeks and really looking forward to it - despite the necessary trips to the Bingo .
busyfingers - welcome to the thread . wow you're another one able to pick blackberries - none around here at the moment.
ClaireBear - same kind of happy memories that I have of blackberries.
Patchwork - well done on getting to the bottom of the paperwork :T.
Reverbe - :T well done on the finds and freebies.
tudorfan - Good Luck with the cross stitch - not done any for ages, but it's so relaxing.
sparrer - :j at your NSD's - I need a few myself after payday last week.
Mine for the past few days are:
1. A lovely restful sunday after the saturday madhouse with Dylan the Villain. Made another batch of Melting Moments. My Line Manager was due yesterday for a one-to-one meeting - get it off to a good start with coffee and home baking.
2. DD has got an appointment for a scan at the local hospital quicker than we thought. Maybe the trip to casualty did the trick after all.
3. Visit from DD with dgd2 (20mths) - she has 'found her voice' and we're understanding her more and more.
4. dgd1(11) returned safely from her Activity Weekend - full of excitement, sense of achievement (abseiling/canoeing/potholing/zipwire etc!) and lots of MUD!!! DD has washed her stuff three times and it's still filthy - think it will have to be dumped. Unless she brings it for me to sort out - I'll bet she didn't 'sluice' it off BEFORE putting it in the WM .
5. Team Meeting in work today - all given antibacterial handsprays for using in work (part of the Swineflu precautions).
6. One of our Directors has said I'll be getting a proper office to work out of - it will save bringing visitors into my home and up the stairs to the Spare Bedroom . I have a huge side garden (I'm no gardener) and they're going to have something built there for me. Just hope it happens BEFORE my proposed retirement date (July 2012).
7. Liver and Onion Gravy with mashed pots and steamed savoy cabbage for evening meal tonight. DS1 arrived with his mouth watering - I don't remember him liking liver and onions as a child- and you'd have thought I was trying to poison him if I'd served up cabbage! My how they change .
That's me done for now - and it's way past my bedtime.
Nitey nite all and God Bless - love Ollie xxx0 -
Another alert for anyone who missed it. My scone recipe (post 3338) contains baking powder and not as I originally wrongly posted bi carbonate of soda.

Ollie, I know it is great that my OH does the weekend breakfasts but then almost every day I get up around 7 to do him weekday breakfast and packed lunch (and then go back to bed for another hour or so). We feel it is an even swap! But I know, he is a real find!:T
Ask your OH, he might just not have thought of it and would be glad to do something for you!
Will be back later for blessings!

Good morning! I didn't get on yesterday at all as I'm feeling ill with flu, a temp and very sore throat  The docs said that it was probably swine flu and to take the Tamiflu and stay out of the way for a week - easier said than done with my lot bit I will stay away from my Mum & Dad as they are vunerable health wise. As always I'm struggling on with an hour on the sofa when I can't manage any more  My five for yesterday are:
1. DD was lovely & made me hot drinks when I wanted them :A
2. The boys were good too and tried hard not to be too noisy
3. Relief at the sight of DH last night though.
4. I watched a wood pigeon in the trees at the back of the house for about half an hour. He was jumping from branch to branch - lovely.
5. I made pancakes for lunch and it was good seeing them all woofed down.0 -
4. I watched a wood pigeon in the trees at the back of the house for about half an hour. He was jumping from branch to branch - lovely.
Thats what ours does. He goes in the tree outside our window. He was actually a baby there a coupla years back. He never got the hang of when we had our window open and almost flew in loads of times. The orther year he came back and brought his girlfriend. It was so sweet. He tends to come every sunday for a hop about and still cant get the hang of a branch that cant take his weight - he's been like that ever since he was little.
Hope you get well soon.xWhat Would Bill Buchanan Do?0 -

SunnyGirl - Sorry to hear about your swinefluand how sweet of your dd/ds's to so kind and helpful. Get better soon
Reverbe - lots of woodpigeons around here too and we've also noticed how they don't seem to have any concept of which branches can take their weight and which can't :rotfl:. Much fluttering of wings as they try to regain their balance when the branches really bend down .0
