    Hi everyone,

I'm still working on catching up with this thread. My aim is to post daily too. I was a bit down in the dumps yesterday and then I found this thread again, it is so lovely.

Here are my five pleasures from the last week or so since I posted

    1. Celebrating our beautiful DD2's first birthday. We took her swimming and she loved it

    2. Reading this thread which made me stop and think I have so very much to be grateful for.

    3. Baking a birthday cake for DD2's birthday and DS asking for the same one this week for his birthday as it was so nice!

    4. DS and DD2 being very nice to each other today to get the holiday off to a good start.

    5. Having a pain au chocolat and coffee for breakfast - not healthy, not very OS but so, so yummy :)

    Hi all

So early and already the day is full of pleasures!

shopndrop, if your son has an annual travelcard that covers London, this is called a Gold Card, he should go to one of the main stations and ask for a leaflet explaining benefits or look at the link for gold card below:

    http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/times_fares/season_tickets/goldcard.html

If you have a gold card, you are able to buy a Network Rail card for another person for £1 (it normally costs £25). Hope this helps.

Anyway, here are my five so far:

1 - Woke up well refreshed after a lovely night sleep, to a cuppa in bed courtesy of DH

2 - Breakfast for DS and myself (DD and her BF declined as they wanted to sleep late), mixed veg. omelette, yummy!

3 - DH emailed me that after our Nice holiday he still has 9 days leave so
    >

4 - ---> I booked a trip to Italy for the both of us in October, found very good prices on both Eurostar and couchette trains from Paris to Rome. As this falls under the category "duty visit to family" and not undre "holiday" I do not feel guilty that I am having two holidays within days of each other hehehe

5 - Being alive, it is great!

Have a fab day everybody xxx
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

    Hi all,

    1. The buds on my rose in the pot outside finally opening - lovely yellow petals.

    2. Spending time bead weaving - it's been a while since I did any craft :o

    3. Making 400g mince stretch to 6 portions of lasagna with enough bolognaise sauce left for possibly another meal for the 4 of us.

    4. Making thriftlady's chocolate fudge pudding and it tasting even better now I have got a proper cup measure ;) Such an easy cheap but really tastey pud - but apparently I should have got ice cream to go with it :rollyes:

    5. Seeing a friend and being told off that I didn't ring her up to let her know I was signed off and struggling. Lovely to know people care.

    6. Giving a much loved dress I no longer wear to a dear friend who is suffering with cancer and finding it a struggle to get dresses that fit and don't have any waistband. And she is really pleased with it. It will get more use.

    7. Being glad I have my physical health, even if I'm struggling with my mental health just now :o

    Hi everyone,

I was a bit down in the dumps yesterday and then I found this thread again, it is so lovely.

Honey - I hope you're feeling better! This thread always reminds be to look on the bright side and be kind to myself as well as everyone else - it hasn't failed to cheer me up yet.

Newlywed - I thought that was a lovely thing to do for a friend :A

    Mine for today are

1 making it home at lunch for toast and scrambled eggs
2 finding the encklace that OH gave me - really thought it was gone for good!
3 Its a lovely day so I've got my office window open - I've had to rescue a few bits of paper from the other side of the room but it's so much nicer than the air conditioning - and I can (almost!) here the sea!
4 I remembered to take my vitamins this morning - been feeling a bit run down but I never remember to take them until I feel rubbish so today I feel quite virtuous :)
5 the cupboards are a little bare at the moment so even a store cupboard challenge would be tricky - looking forward to a shop tonight and stocking up on yummy food for OH's arrival at the weekend

    Have a great day Lx

    Hi all

Just had to come back to share the good news, I have had my work hours confirmed to be reinstated from October! This is really good because I can still have a "light" working summer and then from October when the weather gets colder again, it won't be quite so much upsetting to have to sit at the computer for longer!

    Have a great evening everybody

Good evening everyone & thank you for all the lovely comments about our 'sitting round the table together for our evening meals' habit. I always did it with my parents so it feels right to me. The children are always shocked when they go to friends houses and everyone eats in odd places and not together. They're no longer so vocal about it now though as they've grown up a bit :rotfl: DS2 still hasn't got over his idea that ready meals are the devils own food though - I can't think where he gets that idea from  :D

Bella You rest a bit & take it easy athough I know its hard to change the mindset that everything has to be done. Your DH & you have time now to take it easy & do one or two jobs a day :j My Dad is religious about this now as when he first retired he didn't stop! He now does whatever he's got to in the morning, leaving the afternoon free for hobbies, walking & reading etc.

We've had a lovely, relaxed time over the weekend and today has been good too. We haven't done anything earth shattering just spent time together 'chilling' as the kids say! My five are:

    1. A lovely sunny afternoon after an awful start this morning.

    2. I didn't wake until 8am and I was still first up ;)

    3. DD & DS1 have taken DS2 out with them to visit a friend. It's nice to see them all getting on so well. At times I've felt like a United Nations Peacekeeper with them all!

    4. My friend is seriously skint this week as her child tax credits have been messed up so I've got some extra bags of pasta, rice, flour & tins out for her. I won't let her & her son starve as I know she wouldn't let us either.

    5. I'll be getting the craft box out tonight as tomorrow is going to be a craft day for DS3 & I. Last time we did it we made Nanna a lovely photo frame from pasta, buttons, curtain hooks, lentils & cut up straws that was sprayed gold. My Mum loves it and its still up in the house. I'll see if he wants to make one for our kitchen & we'll spray it silver and put a picture of us all in it :T

I hope that everyone is well & has a good evening.

    1. Had a day's sick leave today and spent it sleeping, resting my voice (I was completely hoarse this morning), and feel quite a lot better for it, so should be back at my desk tomorrow, as I now I'll have loads to catch up on
    2. DD and I went for a lovely walk earlier this evening around the village with some friends, we are planning more 'adventures'
    3. Found out there's a lovely plum tree just around the corner I can forage, lovely little mirabelle plums apparently :)
    4. DD receiving a lovely package from her preschool - a card signed by all the grownups and a lovely collage of photos of her and stickers, so she will always remember her time with preschool.
    5. DD's got a 'graduation party' at nursery on Wednesday. I'm so excited for her having all these events to mark the transition from nursery/preschool to big school, and feel proud of us that we've got so far together, me and her against the world, lol.

Hugs to all - Sunnygirl, I love the sound of the photoframe, it sounds divine and has given me an idea for a present for my mum :)

Olliebeak - yes I know retirement is supposed to be wind down time but as a SAH mum/grandmother/wife who has always taken the job very seriously I find I am busier than ever a) trying to take time out with DH and b) being super thrifty to make the pennies stretch as far as possible. However I'm not superwoman and have suffered so much with aches and pains and wearisness over the last few days I'm going to have to rethink my schedules.
newlywed - your mince stretching efforts make mine seem positively extravagant, what have you been doing, putting it on the rack? Seriously, when I make meals stretch in this way, it makes me realise just how little the manufacturers can get away with in processed meals but they don't charge any less. Anyway ours taste better.
SunnyGirl - thanks for those kind words I'm going to have to try harder to try less hard IYSWIM. Have fun with that crafting it sounds good.
shopndrop yes I'm looking forward to that holiday. Here is the scone recipe:-

    Wholemeal Date Scones

Measure ingredients in a yogurt pot measuring 125g capacity.

    1 pot white SR flour
    2 pots wholemeal SR flour
Half a pot of granulated sugar
1 quarter of a 250g pack of hard baking marg.
Half a teaspoon of baking powder.

Rub these all in together (I use a food processor)

    Add-

Chopped dates - about a couple of handsful
1 egg beaten and topped up with milk to fill the yogurt pot.

Combine ingredients (saving a drop of egg/mixture for brushing) cut to desisred size, I make eight with a small one left over (cooks perks) and brush with egg and milk.

Bake Gas 6 Elec 200 until nice and brown.

    Today's pleasures:-

    1. Getting the towels dried outdoors, it seems like everyday for days it has rained or been going to and I daren't risk it.

    2. Doing the ironing while watching Casualty 1909 on iPlayer.

    3. Two lovely home grown cucumbers handed over the fence by my neighbour.

    4. The DGK's came to tea and loved the ice lollies I had made with the last of the elderflower cordial in my new Poundland lolly moulds.

    5. The look on DGK's faces when I gave them £10 each for excellent school reports.

    Bella.
