I always used to think it was gross that McDonalds did Egg McMuffins, imagining a fried egg and sausage on a choc chip/ blueberry muffin :rotfl: Thankfully I've been enlightened to what a proper English muffin is now!D'you know, in 900 years of space and time, I've never met anyone who wasn't importantTaste The Rainbow :heartsmil0

HI everyone
After gale force winds over the weekend, today is sunny and calm, so I hope to get into the garden this afternoon
My five for the past couple of days.
1. Met up with DD, SIl and littlest granddaughter for a couple of very enjoyable hours.
2. SIL gave me a crayfish(live), Oh's favourite food.
3. Another friend who is a sharemilker knows that I like to make my own cheeses, so arrived with a 20 lite pail of milk from his beautiful Jersey cows.
4. Made 1.2kg butter from above milk.
5. Just taking a break from making feta, mozzarella and ricotta to write this, will be a very busy morning.
6. Oh restored some more of the hydroponics system that had deteriorated while he was ill, and I have planted beetroot and mini carrots in it. Everything is looking really good now, just have another 2 systems to go and we will be back fully into it. The next indoor one to be restored will have tomatoes, aubergines and capsicums in it, the outdoor one will have salad crops, so we should be pretty well self sufficient in fresh fruit and vegetables from now on. The village shop here has closed down and the nearest supermarket involves a 60km round trip, so the more I can produce here, the better.
7. Went for a lovely drive with Oh, lunch in a tiny village "Kimbolton", then a drive to Apiti and Rangiwhaia and ended up in Mangaweka at an art gallery. We had a famous artist C F Goldie in the early days here, who painted amazing portraits, usually of Maori. A forger set up to copy his works and did so very successfully. He eventually changed his name to "C.F. Goldie". Some of his works were on display at the gallery, and I was fascinated to see them, particularly a Picasso in the style of Warhol's Marlyn series. He is very very good.
Blessings be

Thank you for your support and yes, the management are taking a 10% cut too. But enough of that!
1) Making a picnic from what we had in the house - salmon and courgette flan, potato salad, green salad with cucumber and olives, banana cake. I was determined not to go to Tesco.
2) Church picnic on the immaculate lawn of one of the senior members of the congregation. They had been gardening for three weeks in anticipation!
3) An afternoon at the allotment. I gave my next door neighbour a couple of onions and he told me to come and pick as many gooseberries as I wanted.
4) Getting the washing dry outside. After having to use the airer and tumble drier over the last few days, this is a blessing.
5) Made so much for our picnic that we had the same again for tea. No preparation and no-one seemed to mind
Have a good week, everyone0 -
What a lovely day it turned out to be despite the forecast. Hope everyone is as well as can be. My five for today are
1 Gorgeous, secluded (therefore quiet) walk near the south shore of lake Windermere.
2 Picnic in a park down by the lake (free parking thanks to NT membership sticker)
3 Coffee ice cream to follow.
4 College work finished.
5 DD2 made her first sponge cake all by herself which was really tasty.
Happy new week everyone!0 -
Hi all
What a great day I had, I am so happy I managed to accomplish so much! Here are my pleasures in no particular order:
1 - Breakfast in bed as always courtesy of my wonderful DH, this time was porridge with toasted chopped nuts, sultanas and maple syrup - yummy!
2 - An old friend dropped in on her way to the shops, went to do shopping (DH accompanied her as she is old in age, not only as acquaintance) then stopped and had lunch with us, see below.
3 - Successful visit to Farmers Market, the Italian girl at the organic stall gave me a courgette and a pepper for free (on top of the paid shopping) because they had a minor imperfection.
4 - My neighbours and I organised a Big Lunch in our street and there were some 20 people including two babies (plus one due anytime!), a toddler, two women over 85 and loads of other people. It was great and I ate like a horse - hence no dinner tonight, only a pot of yogurt!
5 - Managed at long last to order DH's camera lens online, using Quidco for cashback, which nearly covers the postage cost.
6 - I applied online for an admin job (3 days per week) - not sure I actually WANT the job but it would be good for my confidence if I got shortlisted and interviewed, then I would take it one step at a time and see the full terms and conditions.
7 - I translated an article about breadcrumbs, from an Italian magazine, which I am going to post separately on this forum, watch out for it, I loved it and hope you will, too.
Good night all
XXXFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Hi everybody  - been another of those 'funny old days' again. The weather is so changeable at the moment. One minute rain and then sunshine/wind and back to rain again!
- mineallmine - :T on making an early start for Christmas.
- Noah'sPennilessMummy - looking forward to hearing about your (and Noah's) pleasures.
- sparrer - hope you and your dgd enjoyed your Village Gala and that the weather held out for you all.
- savingforoz - fingers crossed that your work situation improves (((hugs))) - at the sweetpotato and lentil soup.
- bella - retirement is meant to be a time for slowing down a little, dear. Sounds like you're going to really need this holiday - take care.
- Kittikins - good to hear that your DM is back out of hospital again - but take care of yourself. Your dd sounds like a little treasure.
- Louba - sounds like you've had a wonderful weekend.
- thriftyscotslass - :T to your OH! He is so right - muffins are more like a flattened bread roll. American muffins are very nice but they are GIANT fairy cakes! And another :T for your dd on her Duke of Edinburgh's Award adventures.
- Claire - isn't it strange how good things often come out of disappointments.
- :hello: purplegirl - wtg to you and your ds for your cookie baking session and good luck with the masters course.
- kiwiblue - :T at your cheese-making exploits and good to hear that your OH is recovering so well these days.
- Patchwork - sounds like an idyllic Sunday to me.
- billy858 - what a wonderful visit to the Lakes you've had and :j on finishing your course work.
- Caterina - well done on your community for taking part in the 'Big Lunch' - good time had by all!
Mine for today are:
1. Dgs2 slept in a little this morning (following last night's late bedtime!) so we had a peaceful morning.
2. Baked some more Melting Moments this afternoon and kept a very close eye on them this time- managed to get 24 out of the batch of mixture - all rolled in desiccated coconut this time.
3. Got my one-to-one work assessment visit with my Line Manager tomorrow morning. As I work from home, I've blitzed the bathroom, downstairs loo and living room today. My own fault for letting it get so bad.
4. Washing done and dried on airers today as I couldn't trust the weather!
5. Turkey Chilli Mixture with Pasta and Garlic Bread for evening meal tonight - only used half of it, so two portions for the freezer.
Let's hope tomorrow brings some brighter weather for us all. Have a good night's sleep and sweet dreams to all - love Ollie xxx0 -
Mine for yesterday
1. Getting the house cleaned through ready for the first of 6 weeks off with DS:j
2. Having delicious roast dinner of local rare breed pork joint, mash, carrots and the first of our HG tenderstem broccoli
3. Finishing the plan for the summer hols and laminating and velcro-ing all DS`s Rebus symbols for his timetable (he is autistic)so hopefully summer will run smoothly:rolleyes:
4. A lovely bath run by OH last night then he made me a coffee and got me chocolate whilst watching the TV and having a cuddle together
5. First day in ages with no migraine:T0 -
Sunnygirl- hope your cold is much better now. When DS was still at home we always had our evening meal around the dining table which we always enjoyed as we would sit and chat for ages. We still do this when he comes home and he always says he loves to do this as a lot of people don't have the time.
Newlywed - glad your first day back at work went OK.
Nitha - well done on getting your DS to eat the hidden veg.
Patchwork Quilt - it is amazing how we can sometimes get money off by just asking. It's what Martin is always telling us to do as they can only say no. Really sorry to hear about you and your daughter's work situations - hope your DD finds something else soon.
Reverbe - your Rainbow trout sounds delicious and even better as it was free.
Bellaquidsin - your date scones sound delicious. Any chance of posting the recipe sometime? Let's hope your holiday will boost your feeling of well being and you will come back refreshed and no longer feeling worn out.
Kim 85 & ClaireBear - congratulations on your graduation.
BlimusOreilly - it is a great feeling when we can find something to give us a cheaper day out.
Reverbe - hope all goes well this afternoon for you.
Rainbowchild - well done for finding a builder who won't charge you loads.
billy858 - I love it when my OH works from home especially on a Friday - just feel it gives us a longer weekend just by having him around all day Friday.
Olliebeak - I live by lists couldn't manage without them. Your banana loaves sound delicious. Hope you got your £2 gift card as well if you were overcharged in Asda. They don't always offer it you sometimes have to ask but you should have this as well as your refund for the overcharge.
Thriftyscotlass - your drive in the country sounds lovely. Well done on getting the mending done - that is one of my jobs for today (again), it is amazing how we can never find time to do such jobs but feel great once they are done.
Caterina - my son has a yearly travel card but has never understood how and where he can get other cheap tickets - is it for South East trains only? Well done on getting such a cheap ticket.
Mineallmine - isn't it lovely to have some tea & toast brought to you without even asking. It is something I always appreciate.
Sparrer - sounds like your DGD2 is learning MS ways early in life and has a good teacher.
savingforoz - hope your work issues are soon resolved.
Kittikins - sorry to hear about your cold but glad your mum is out of hospital.
Welcome to purplegirluk1 - good luck with the masters.
Kiwiblue - I am really envious of your self sufficiency in fruit and veg. We have grown quite a bit of veg this year and hope to grow more next year but certainly don't have the space to be self sufficient.
1. A mixed start to yesterday. We were driving to meet our friends and reached the road where 4 people had been killed in a car accident overnight Saturday. It was awful to see people standing around with a complete look of disbelief on their faces. Really made me thankful for life's simple pleasures. So sad that so many lives will have been changed forever over the weekend.
2. Meeting up with friends yesterday and having a lovely day out visiting 2 NT properties (we are all members).
3. Being able to walk around the gardens as well as inside the properties as we managed to miss most of the showers.
4. Going out for a lovely meal with said friends last night (OK not very OS but we don't see them very often and it was too far for them to come from their hotel to our house for a meal).
5. Managing to get one of the reduced slow cookers from Argos for DS & GF.
Have a good week all.0 -
Mine are very birthday orientated today, had family round yesterday and cooked a huge meal. Had a lovely day, but was sooo weary going to bed.
1. Waking up this morning proud of the fact that I had done all of the clearing up from my birthday meal yesterday and not procrastinating.
2. Knowing today's meal is a nice easy one because its HM pasta sauce and sausages out of the freezer.
3. Already having frozen most of my birthday cake to save buying sweet stuff at a later date.
4. Getting excited about having ordered myself a set of cloth sanitary towels with my birthday money.
5. Trawling the internet for the cheapest deal on cloth baby wipes.0 -
Morning all,
What a bright morning here.
1. Washing the bedding - I have my favourite bed-set on at the moment so it will be washed and back on for this evening!
2. Resisting some "bargains" - if things aren't even anywhere near 100% perfect or what I want, then they ain't coming in.
3. Doing a quick trip around the house switching off things at the mains, unnecessary lights etc.
4. Reading the preparing for winter thread - I have a couple of hot water bottles - may treat myself to a heat pad or heated blanket from Argos. http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=531601&page=114 :snow_grin
5. Um, that's all for now. Great day everyone. :ADeclutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage
:cool2: Cherryprint: "More stuff = more stuff to tidy up!" Less things. Less stuff. More life.Fab thread: Long daily walks
