    Happy Sunday :j

Recent blessings (if you can call some of them that!)

    1. A neighbour needed a listening ear on Friday re her relationship. I sat and listened and provided gallons of tea, she said she knows where to come when she wants to talk :o

    2. A dear friend, who I haven't seen for months, needed ditto on Saturday so similar procedure was followed...with chocolate as she's a chocoholic :D. <<< thinks - wonder if I'm too old to start a new career as an agony aunt  >>>

    3. DGD2 is here for the weekend, we had fun yesterday window shopping and trying on silly clothes (at 12 and 62 we do raise smiles in the shops). We don't buy anything of course so it's always a free/fun day out. We followed up with a Chinese take away in the evening, not very OS but we do the rice at home and I usually have some spring rolls or other bits in the freezer

    4. Today is the village gala - it was supposed to be in June but rained off. It's not too bright today but have just heard the procession go along the main road so we'll go along shortly to throw a few shys at coconuts, or whatever you do with them :D. We have a limit of £5 each and enjoy a good day out with careful planning. DGD2 is getting like her Grandma, she already plans her pocket money to make the most of it - I'm proud of my budding MSE'er :T

    5. Later today going to visit a friend whose birthday was yesterday, I bought her some yellow roses (which we always buy each other as yellow is for friendship) her favourite round chocolates in gold foil, a big bromeliad and an even bigger, really beautiful, brand new Staffordshire pottery planter for it to go in from the local charity shop. With a money off coupon and a voucher from Mr A for an overcharge found on a receipt the whole lot cost just under £9 :)

Now we'll have a quick lunch before heading off to the village green with our sou'westers and galoshes to enjoy the afternoon. Hope everyone is having a peaceful day with as few problems as possible..

    Take care n God bless

Here are mine - I am pretty stressed over a work issue right now, so it will help to count some blessings, I think.

    1. Making a big batch of sweet potato and lentil soup.
    2. Getting invited for lunch in Salisbury next weekend.
    3. Finding that being a Virgin customer entitles me to free photo printing.
    4. Being successful in obtaining a refund for something that was wrongly charged to my credit card  - some companies really are unscrupulous with this "recurring billing" idea.
    5. Going to the gym first thing on a Sunday morning, so hence feeling virtuous!
    6. The bigger stuff - having great health, no debts, a home to live in, etc...I guess my work issues, however upsetting I'm finding them, are small potatoes compared to what some people have to contend with.
Life is not a dress rehearsal.

I think I have been trying too hard to be the perfect MS OS retired housewife of late and have completely worn myself out. My hands hurt and I have developed a 'trigger thumb' which potentially could lead to an operation. I have had eleven of those over the years and was hoping not to have any more. However I must take the strain off a bit and look on the bright side.

    1. Seeing my friend (who lives 120 miles away) last night.

    2. Also seeing a lot of other, not quite so close friends.

    3. A good afternoon nap, each of the last two days, should help.

    4. Knowing that the freezer is nice and full, so I can ease up a little.

    5. Going on holiday a week on Friday, God willing.

    Bella.

Hello all, some lovely blessings on here, and hugs to those who are having a horrible time of life at the moment with pay cuts, job losses and the like :(

    1. DD and I came home today so that we wouldn't run the risk of giving my mum my nasty cold which has really taken hold of me today - yay, she came out of hospital :)
    2. Being lent "Hotel for Dogs" on DVD by my lovely friend so that I could put it on when we got home and lie down on my sofa whilst DD watched and faffed about all full of energy
    3. Popping to the shops on the way home to get milk and fruit and asking DD what we needed - to which she replied "bargains" :) I'm so proud, lol
    4. Knowing that I can soon go to bed once DD has gone up.
    5. DD giving me lots of cuddles and looking after me - but I'm worried that she's now getting my cold as her eyes look very red and heavy :(

Right, better go and get her some dinner - woopsied broccoli and some quorn pasta bake from a batch cook I did a few weeks ago. Nice and easy, just what I need tonight!

The last few days have been very busy so just catching up with all the posts! Sorry to those of you who are having a difficult time right now :( Here's hoping for better days and continued support from friends.
My highlights from the last few days are:
1 - my old boss' leaving night - a lovely night with old friends
2 - a charity concert for Breast Cancer Care last night which was set in the oldest music hall in Britain - desperately in need of restoration but a lovely venue and great performers
3 - lunch and cakes with my mum.
4 - putting the world to rights over a glass of wine with a good friend who's been having a rubbish time lately
5 - two new swaps on readitswap it
6 - OH moves this week!
7 - getting a beautiful dress from a friend who bought it on ebay but found it a little small - I would never have tried in on in a shop but I love it

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday everyone!

  • Hope you are all having a lovely Sunday evening

Kittikins I'm glad your Mum is out of hospital - good news.

Bellaquidsin Look after yourself. It sounds as if you need to rest up for the next week or so - you need to be fighting fit for your holiday.

Sparrer You sound like a great friend - make sure you talk as well as listen though. I have a brother who I only ever hear from when he's in trouble

Thoughts going out to all those who are low - take care of yourselves.

    My five blessings for today:

    1. My hm pie from yesterdays slow-cooked beef disappeared at top speed tonight :D

    2. Hm cherry and chocolate big buns - mmmnnnn. Dh refuses to call them muffins "We do buns in this country, not muffins!!" :rotfl:

    3. Getting some mending done :T It's been one of those jobs that I have had been meaning to do for weeks - you know the type

    4. Knowing that the house is clean, the washing and ironing are up-to-date and the house-paperwork is also up-to-date due to working hard last week. This means that I should get quite a bit of decorating done this week :T After years of both of us working full-time, it is nice to finally give the house a bit of much-needed tlc. I've been looking at people's lovely gardens and thinking that next year, all being well, the garden will also receive some tlc.

    5. Looking at dd asleep on the sofa today. She was out camping last night as part of her Duke of Edinburgh bronze award - they had a brilliant time, don't think they got much sleep tho'

Enjoy the rest of the evening xxx

Evening all, hope today has treated you all well :)

    My pleasures for the day:

    1. Salvaging a really good day out of a potential disappointment. When I got to the place the car boot sale was meant to be, a nice old lady told me it had been cancelled but there was a market at the metro station a few stops down, which turned out to be basically a big indoor carboot, so I got my fix afterall :D 2. Found a really nice cookie jar for £2.50, I've been looking for a good one for ages, but didn't want to pay £15+ for one off t'internet. Plus it was on a charity stall, so even better :)
    3. Made enquiries about having my own stall there next week, they provide the table and you book in advance. Looking forward to having a good clearout and hopefully making a few squids in the process. It's ideal because I can't drive to get to any other bootsales, but this one is literally inside the metro station, so can just carry all my stuff there
    4. OH is making tea tonight. Only took a bit of persuasion
    5. Did some more Christmas shopping earlier, some mini pots of jam for a hamper, and ordered a DVD online. Somehow a Chupa Chups bag from the sale managed to work it's way into my basket as well, wonder how that happened? Actually, they were a really good deal, £5 each down from 20 or something. Seen them in the shops for a lot more than that as well, would maybe make a good present?
D'you know, in 900 years of space and time, I've never met anyone who wasn't important

    Hello everyone,

I have been reading this thread for a little while and I just wanted to thank you all for the positive slant you have given me. I am having relationship problems at the moment and have survived the last few days with lots of positive thinking and focusing on the pleasures that can be found in small things. So here is my first ever 5 OS Pleasures -

    1. Eating and sharing the choc chip 'Millies Cookies' I made with DS last night.
    2. Being pleased that the weather managed to dry the washing I left out in the rain, I used to use the TD every day!
    3. I have just found out I have been offered a place on a masters course and was really pleased to find out I might be able to get a career development loan.
    4. Watching my DS sit through a whole bedtime story (almost), he is such a wiggle bum (not quite OS but it beat watching the tv!)
    5. Felt too poorly to go to a booty today but managed one yesterday and was every pleased with some 10p books, a big bundle £2 and some plants for the garden.

Oh I so agree with your Dh, thrifty, and many youngsters wouldn't know a real bun, or real muffin, if one jumped up and landed on their plate...but I'll not get on my soapbox about the difference in the English language and alternative words that are creeping in from overseas for fear of offending!
