Ok here goes - I am struggling to be upbeat at the min what with DS and his swine flu nightmare and now I'm starting to feel rubbish as well. However I do appreciate there are others on here having a much worse time than me so big hugs to all who feel they need them and heres my attempt for today

    1) Got a good nights sleep as I took DS into bed with me last night to avoid getting up to him through the night. Even got a bit of a lie in
    2) Got a lovely card from my work for my DS to wish him better cos hes too nice to be ill (thats what was written inside card) and a new fireman sam dvd to cheer him up
    3) Got all nice and messy playing with paint this afternoon while he was feeling a bit better. He even managed to paint his legs and toes and I got some lovely photos
    4) My mum and dad took the risk and came up for dinner and brought me a takeaway
    5) Have got my son off to his own bed and have just enjoyed a yummy cup of hot choc and caught up on MSN forum

I agree Claire Bear. One of my greatest pleasures is just to hear old friends talking and laughing together - whoever they are. It just reminds me of what life should be about!

    Mine for today are

    1) A birthday meal out last night as a family, using vouchers from this website and saving £20 in Pizza Express
    2) The loan of a good book from someone at work - A Fall of Moondust by Arthur C Clarke. It really is very well written.
    3) On a similar note, a friend from the book club came around specially to lend me our latest one as I had ordered it from the library (and felt very pleased with myself at the time) but it hasn't come. Very kind of him. However, I was able to give him a bag of bits and bobs from my son that will fit his, so it worked out well
    4) Coffee with another friend this lunchtime before she starts her busy summer schedule.
    5) Not spending some money on new mascara and blusher. I suddenly realised that Boots have a lot of special offers - spend this and get this free. I didn't need any of them but I'm sure they will come up with another one soon that I might use. A bit sneaky but it will make the pennies stretch a little further..

Hello all, thought I would join in rather than just reading everyone elses.
    Mine for today are:

    1. Daughters last day at primary. Rather than being upset she is exited at moving on.
    2. Got most of my cleaning done and the house looks much better.
    3. Managed to hang the pictures I got from freecycle and they look fab.
    4. Family meal out (doesn't happen very often). Enjoyed by all.
    5. Sitting now with my husband and dog with a glass of good wine.

    Good wishes to all.

Kittikins - Hope your mum will be better very soon. mineallmine I think you've got it just about right, the way to a man's heart and all that.

I've been a very weary pleasure seeker today but here we go:-

    1. A walk to the library - free

    2. A visit to Poundland - cheap

    3. The support of my DH while I have been feeling so 'bushed' - invaluable.

    4. Four x two portion cottage pies from 500g of mince - thrifty.

    5. A DD, DS and a DGD and DGS and very caring DH - priceless.

I am very blessed and grateful to this thread for helping me to remember that fact.

Welcome to all the new faces :). Lovely to see that we're still growing, proving that there are lots of big and small pleasures to be found in everyone's day if we think about it.

Reverbe like Bella's DH, my DS's OH got a couple of weeks work through an agency which led to 3 moths work and eventually a permanent job so I wish you all the very best of luck

Ollie sorry to hear your DD has probs but as you say her recent overnight stay should help for an early appt. Lots of us know what its like having to wait so wish her good luck

billy858 you reminded me about school hols, I was the one crying when my sprogs went back to school, not when they broke up!:o

mineallmine bless you, it's horrid when things like that happen but as you said it's the woman who likes your loved one and not the other way around, and you have the edge because he's with you! Special hugs to you, and well done for sharing with us in the knowledge that we're here to support you being strong :A. Re your saying , a similar one which I use is 'you've got to walk the walk, not just talk the talk'...both sayings so true

Nitha I recently picked up a tenner that I saw a woman drop in a local charity shop, and gave it to her...the look of surprise, and relief, on her face was more than worth it, but.the person I was with asked me why I did that ! I replied that I didn't know anyone who shopped in a charity shop that could afford to lose a tenner.

    Recent blessings...

    1. A courtesy call from the pulmonary rehab nurse reminding me about my assessment tomorrow. I had remembered but thought it was nice she took time to bother. (They're going to teach me to breathe, not that I've been breathing for the past phrthrph years ha ha). If I 'pass' I'll be invited to go on a 7-week course and as places are as rare as hen's teeth I really am very grateful for the opportunity

    2. A friend came for coffee yesterday am, she's in a pickle at work and on leave with stress so needed to talk. She phoned later to thank me and say she felt much better when she left. I'm very blessed that she felt I was the right person at that time

    3. This is a very selfish blessing I'm afraid...I've searched and searched but had to tell DM I can't find the holiday she wants in Oct. She's specified so many pref's, predominantly AI, sunshine, day time flights only and max of £350 which just isn't possible. Last hol I was constantly in the bar collecting her brandys, which really didn't make this recovering alkie very happy, but at her age she expects to be waited on. I know I'm horrible and do feel guilty believe me, but I also feel a huge sense of relief

    4. I had my electric bill yesterday, they owe me the princely sum of £3.60p! I wish I had the cheek to ask for a cheque

    5. Another selfish one - pulling up outside my house, seeing my tiny front garden looking much prettier (IMHO :o) than some others in the square, and knowing that I haven't paid full price for anything - tubs, planters, trellis, plants, even compost :T

Night night all, take care and hugs to everyone

Hello everyone from a slightly less stressed Kittikins. My mum was a lot better than I was anticipating when I saw her last night, she's got to have another op in a few weeks' time and was very lucky she got to hospital when she did or she wouldn't be alive now, so I'm very thankful for that.

On an irritating note, I did slip off my diet yesterday, I was very stressed when I drove to the hospital, so like a numpty went and ate 'real' food (but in true MSE fashion, it was reduced in price, lol, so my slip was at least cheap, tee hee!). It doesn't seem to have put any weight on, but I feel sluggish today, grr. Am right back on track now, and whilst it's frustrating that when faced with a horrible situation, I caved straight in and went for the bread, at least it was just one sandwich - that's better than a loaf, right? ;)

Sorry to hear about swinflu elf06, that must be so worrying, big hugs and I hope it passes you by and that your little one bounces back very speedily.

I have things to be thankful for:

    1. Mum being looked after by top people in hospital and responding well to treatment
    2. DD making her a gorgeous 'get better soon' card of her own volition
    3. Lovely texts and messages from friends that I unfortunately had to let down this weekend for various things due to not being around, I must remember, when feeling lonely and unloved, that I do have some true friends :)
    4. My dietary lapse not putting any weight on - I supposed I burned a lot off yesterday through worry so the lapse will just be a little blip on my mission to get into a healthy BMI

    Morning all,

Thanks for the hugs and messages all (thanks zarazara, shopndrop, Blimus, Bella and Sparrer). I feel better today (not so bunny-boiler and tearful!). The oak tree of my imagination has calmed somewhat. I think Sparrer hit the nail on the head, but I always worry as I know some women who (married or not) seek out men like a missile (hey I'm not defending men) but I've close experience of a couple of these marriage wreckers - eeek I sound like I'm 101!!
    :eek::o:eek::p

Hugs to Kittikins and all who need them. (And Kittikins cut yourself some slack, I think after last few days you're allowed to eat a few treats, :A). Right to business:

    1. Support from here :o
    2. A swim yesterday which was relaxing
    3. Doing my loved one some steak on the George grilling machine.
    4. Running the food stocks down (some boring oven chips were lightly sprinkled with cajun seasoning to improve them, yummy!).
    5. Seeing fruit on the plum tree.

Have a great day all :A

BlimusOreilly - how lovely that your DS still wants hugs "just because". My son is now in his 20's and I still love it when he comes up and gives me hug, even though he towers well above me now.
SunnyGirl - well done on your menu plans for a month. It takes me all my time to do them weekly, but it is better than not at all.
Thriftyscotslass - love the idea of going back to bed, but I could never go back to sleep, although I would love to be able to.
Claire Bear - hope some of your worries are now sorted - presume exams now over, and hopefully flatmate issues resolved.
elf06 - hope your son is soon feeling better and that the flu is not passed on to other family members.
Patchwork Quilt - I have just been to Boots and like you managed to avoid buying some of their offers in the hope that something I really want will be on offer soon. Would really like the till spits with money off No 7.
Welcome to billy858 - this is a really friendly thread with some simple pleasures that we can take for granted with realising.
Bellaquidsin - hope you are not feeling too weary today.
Sparrer - how nice that your friend felt able to talk to you about her stress. Sometimes, just a listening ear is all we need.
Kittikins - good news about your mum and well done on realising that you didn't eat as well as you could do yesterday but hey, I am sure one day won't hurt.
Mineallmine - glad the oak tree isn't so big today. Hopefully you might have some quality time with your OH over the weekend and he will realise to quote an old saying of my late MIL "which side his bread is buttered".
    Mine for today
    1. A really big one as my son's GF has got her exam results and is now a fully qualified pharmacist. It has taken 4 years of study and 1 year working as a pre reg but she has achieved what she wanted.
    2. DS GF will be starting a job next month near to where DS works so they will no longer have to manage a long distance relationship with all the expenses that go with it.
    3. Going shopping this morning and not buying some shoes even though they were in the sale as they weren't quite what I wanted and I decided to save the money even if it means paying full price to get what I really want. Before MSE I would have bought them and then regretted it.
    4. Sorting my freezer yesterday and finding a HM lasagne that I had forgotten about so an easy tea tonight.
    5. Looking forward to the weekend, it is the first Friday night that OH & I will have been on our own for about 6 weeks so hoping to be able to chill with a cuddle and glass of wine and meeting up with some old friends on Sat & Sun.

    Have a good weekend all.

    Hi everyone.

Shopndrop What lovely pleasures today! Brilliant news that your sons GF has passed her exam & that you & your DH will get some time together tonight :T

    My five for today are:

    1. I was up at 4.30am as I have a rotten cold but I spent an hour on here, did some tidying up & made the tea so all in all a productive time.

    2. DS3 & I went swimming at 9am and the pool was almost empty. We got a float and had a really good time together. He gets the childs free swimming and mine only cost £1.40 so very :money:

    3. Anticipated pleasure of going to see the latest Harry Potter film tomorrow. The children & I are all avid fans and so is my Mum who is coming with us :D

    4. I'm reading a lovely book from the library at the moment called Growing Up in the 1940's. Its a collection of lots of peoples memories of school, home, family & work during that period. It makes me very thankful that we don't have the daily stress & struggles that people did then.

    5. Looking forward to a bubble bath & an early night tonight.

I hope that everyone is well and has had a good day.

    4. The roses in the pot on the deck nearly out... petals are just peeking through - about 16 buds there now too :D
    5. Having used less electricity that I thought (on prepay) - seems to have reduced somewhat, but not sure how or why :o
    6. Looking forward to the weekend.
