It's been a very long day but lots of positives!
1 - the nurse who did my well woman check up this morning was lovely - made it a much better experience than I remembered from the last time.
2 - I bought muffins for the office which was a much appreciated treat
3 - my friend cooked me a really lovely meal tonight
4 - a goodnight hug from my friend's little boy
5 - Looking forward to getting to bed, didn't sleep much last night so I'm hoping I've tired myself out enough to have a great sleep :rolleyes:Mortgage as at March 2010 £225,000 target for December 2012 £170,000. Today I am grateful that
1. I have a job that I can do when and where I want, and as I know that it is temporary I do not take it for granted. With this attitude, I find that when I am in the office, I can accomplish a tremendous amount in a day.
2. The look of sheer joy on dogs face when I returned home tonight.
3. The totally disdainful look on the cats face as he stalked past me to the newly lit fire. I would hate to be out every day, how would they cope? I have figured out that the cat has spent most of the winter on either my bed, in front of the fire or in the basket of homespun wool waiting to be spun.
4. Leftover chicken and pasta for tea, quick, simple and loads of compliments.
5. Lovely long phone call from DD, she had been given a couple of crayfish and couldn't find what do do with them in any of her cookbooks, so rang Mum.
Blessings be

hi everyone,
spent the last wk reading this thread, and it reminds me of the 'simple abundance' book which i still read 12 years later. i love the idea of everyone sharing their 5 grateful things, can i join in?
here are my 5 to start,
1 i'm grateful for a wonderful family who support me even in my wacky iedeas
2 the lovely video of the christening of dgs and dgd in barbados and the special messages they sent me
3 the trust that DS3 and DDil placed in me to look after their house here in germany while they went on hols in barbados for a month.
4 the pleasure i get from my own company.
5 and i'm still grateful [and amazed] that i drove here, on my own , and arrived safely.

Here's mine for the last few days
1) Watching T in the Park and singing along
2) Having home grown salad leaves for lunch and then...
3) ... homegrown potatoes for dinner
4) Passing some geese on the way to work where they all seemed to be waking up and going for a morning stroll
5) Getting a text from a friend I haven't heard from in a while
6) Knocking tiles of the bathroom wall - hard work but statisfying to see how much I had done0 -
Hello grandmasam - I love your signature
I think I'm coming down with a chesty-type thing, I feel a bit tight in that area, and have chronic PMT so am struggling to be ultra chirpy today. However...
1. More clothes for the ebay/passing on bag this morning, yippee!
2. DD slept in my bed (for a yuk reason as she wet the bed again for the 3rd night in a row, I can't think why, she's been dry for ages and now this...*sigh*). At least we got to have good cuddles, so not all bad! I love listening to and watching her sleep
3. Wearing shoes with a heel today! (I almost always wear flats due to being fat and also being scared that I could break my leg again, so this is a tremendous day)
4. My home made bread looking and smelling lovely this morning, think DD will be having home made soup and bread for tea tonight.
5. Am going to finally book in the double glazing people to replace my dodgy windows and front door today. Rather expensive but necessary as the 2 windows don't actually open anymore, they're wedged slightly open, which is okay for about 2 weeks a year!
Hugs to all0 -
I wasn't around yesterday as DD & DS1, who have already finished for the holidays, rather hogged the computer  My five for the last couple of days are:
1. One of my cats, a beautiful small, white girl who is terrified of everything even though she was born in this house, went outside today for a lie down on the patio :T She used to go out all the time until 18 months ago when we got Max, the Beagle, who is more active than our old Labrador was.
2. The rain stopped at lunchtime & I've dried 2 lots of bedding on the lin since then.
3. A lovely sandwich at lunchtime - I put low fat cream cheese on seeded bread & added sliced orange peppers - followed by 2 ripe nectarines, thanks to Aldi's 'Super Six' deal
4. My DS3 wrote his happiest memory at his primary school last night & it was when I went in to the Reception class to help them make fruit salad.
5. I'm tired today so I know it'll be a pleasure when I get into bed, which will be earlier than usual.
((hugs)) to all that need one or are feeling down xxx0 -
Felt the urge to pop in early today - will catch up with the thread at my usual time later on tonight .
My pleasure today is that I have taken a big step today and I wanted to share it with people who would be very proud of me :j.
DS (17) was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome two months ago. This came hard on the heels of a very tough year for him where he experienced a lot of mental health problems. It resulted in him dropping out of sixth form to claim DLA and me resigning from work to become his carer.
I have had two months of appointments with doctors, psychologists, the school and the social. I needed my mum to support me but she has taken the diagnosis very badly and is completely intolerant of the fact that he is now classed as disabled and we are both claiming benefits. So I have had to deal with her unexpected prejudice as well.
Today I thought enough is enough - it is what it is and my mother will have to accept it. I will no longer discuss his diagnosis nor will I apologise for claiming state benefits. I will not be made to feel bad that he is at home instead of at school, college or work. I will not enter into yet another discussion about his future. He is my child - all I know is that he is happy now and he no longer has any mental health problems. I know I have taken the right course of action and the future will take care of itself.
The sense of relief I feel is immense and I am so proud of myself :T,
Thrifty xxx0 -
well done Thrifty!
Shame your mum cant accept it...she may come to terms with it at a later date. My DS who is 6 this week was diagnosed with autism at 2 and a half and also has other problems such as ADHD, dyspraxia and processing disorder so I know how hard it is .......are there any agencies there to help autistic adults into work?..I know there are a few here.....I take it as he has Aspergers he is high funtioning? It would be a shame for him to never get into work at all at any point....however I dont knowyour DS or his difficulties so maybe that is not feasible.
My son is in mainstream school with support but I can see it is going to come crashing down in the next year or so and he will prob end up at home with me while we fight to get him into IR. I only work 2 days a week but we are currently trying to pay off all debts with a view to me leaving work in the next couple of years to fully support DS at home and school..it is a full time job which you will know.
Its a long hard road so well done on getting someway down it:T0 -
thriftyscotslass and NoahsPennilessMummy well done to both of you in supporting your children in difficult circumstances. I admire your dedication and sacrifice.
My pleasures today? Well I spent the whole morning in the kitchen producing -
1. Lemon curd
2. Raspberry jam
3. Apple and mint chutney
4. Carrot and coriander soup - without the coriander as I didn't have any so I added cardomom instead - oh well!
5. Pea pod soup.
6. Must add another one as I spent quite a bit of time producing a very 'chef-fy' looking and totally delicious salad (home grown of course) for lunch.
7. And not being greedy but I can't leave out my wonderful DH who did all the washing up for me.
