  • patchwork - Sorry to hear about your pay cut and your daughter's job. That must be so worrying.
Bellaquidsin - You always sound like you take such good care of everyone else - please take care of yourself too. I'm definitely going to try your date scone recipe.:T
kittikins - good news that your mum is out of the hospital.
kiwiblue - I love hearing about your cheese making. I did buy DH a cheese-making kit but he 'hasn't had the time' to have a go yet!
caterina - Your 'Big Lunch' sounds great. What a great way to get communities together. And great news about your hours being reinstated.

Here are mine (all bundled together) from the past couple of days:

    1) Having such a great time at a friend's birthday get together on Saturday that after initially getting up to leave at about 6pm we eventually walked out of the door at 9pm as the company was so good!
    2) Another friend has just got back from a camping trip for a week and even though I wouldn't have seen her during that time anyway, I found that I missed her and was delighted to get an email from her when she got back.
    3) Friend's birthday German Chocolate cake - has the most amazing coconut treacle topping.
    4) Treating myself to some gorgeous Penhaligon's perfume from ebay (wouldn't have been able to afford even a 5ml bottle from their shop).
    5) DS2 starting his first ever Beach Club. He had a great time even though I got the dreaded phone call 30 mins later to let me know that he had a big bruise on his face from a sports event. He's been talking excitedly about the club ever since he got back and is raring to go back tomorrow.
    6) Making Jambalaya for tea - first ever attempt and it was really, REALLY nice :p
    7) Twinks Hobnobs - two huge platefuls that really should last the week but I don't believe for one minute that they will!
    8) So many butterflies in the garden. I find myself standing and looking at them out of the back window for ages.
    9) DS1 has been making stop-motion lego films on the computer. Very proud of his first attempts and also how he is planning how he can make them better.
    10) The first day of the summer holidays - lots of exciting days out and events planned.

Hope everyone has a good evening.

    Heres mind from the weekend:
    1) Spending time with DM
    2) Going to local farmshop with DM and watching chicks following their mum. One got left behind and we could imagine it shouting "wait for me" as it was running after the others
    3) Two little girls at the same farmshop with pink wellies on jumping in puddles and having such fun - wish I had my boots on to join in
    4) Watching TOTP2 with bands on from my era - 80's
    5) Getting all the ironing done
    6) Listening to the rain while all cozy inside
    7) Checking on the veg growing in the garden
    8) Removing the last of the tiles in the bathroom

I just wanted to say that I love reading this thread, it has made my look at all the little things that make me smile during my day even when things might not be going right. Nite nite xx

  • Hello everyone,

I decided to join in and write about my lovely day today...

    1) Using up my brown bananas and almost out-of-date flour and making some very tasty banana cake for the family.
    2) Taking the fresh smelling laundry off the line-nothing smells as good as air-dried clothes...
    3) Finally picking the first of my cucumbers, raspberries and potatoes of the season (and first ever in fact!), and getting lots of compliments on the lovely dinner they made.
    4) Picking blackberries in the field with my OH and very excited little pug, who couldn't work out what we were doing!
    5) Relaxing after a busy day and reading what everybody else has been up to lately! :D

Mmmm wild blackberries, we used to go picking them from the railway when I was little, that brings back some nice childhood memories :) Then my mam would make apple and bramble crumble for dessert after Sunday dinner. Are raspberries easy to grow for a beginner? I'd love to give that a try. Oh, Welcome by the way! Just realised it's your first time here :D I don't have five for today, haven't really done anything, I just thought I'd have a bit of a ramble and a reminisce :rotfl:

  • 1) Sorting out a lot of paperwork this afternoon - work stuff that has found its way home. I feel organised now
    2) Making 2 1/2 pots of jam from some plums and apples that were just about to go wrinkly. I love seeing them lined up on the top
    3) Splitting a pack of chicken pieces to make 2 meals instead of one. In the olden days, we would have eaten the lot.
    4) Book Club this evening. It's always good to mix with a different set of people now and then. It was at our house too, so I could try all the different wines. Feel a bit guilty about eating so many crisps, though

grandmasam - not another one doing too much, why do we? My DM always used to accuse me of trying to get a quart into a pint pot and I guess I am still doing it. I am always trying to beat my own best record and when you've been at it for as long as I have you've stacked up quite a lot of records to beat. Glad to hear you are taking it easier and giving yourself time to smell the daisies.
busy fingers - Welcome. Your user name suggests you are tarred with the same brush - take care.

The day is young so I only have one pleasure so far but it is a big one:-

    1. Breakfast with DH. I never used to see him in the mornings before he retired as he went out so early. He was used to having his breakfast at the breakfast bar in the kitchen and had continued to do so. I have mine in the dining room with the lap top for company. This morning he joined me. Togetherness - you can't put a price on it.

Today promises to be an fairly ordinary sort of day but one never knows it may reveal an abundance of pleasures.

I totally agree! There is something wonderful about time together with no rushing around and nothing in particular to do, doesn't happen very often for us at the moment but nice when it does!

Reading about everyone's cooking is making my mouth water :D

    Mine for today are

1 - lots of shopping and cooking last night so I have some freshly made soup and salad for lunch
2 - my hairdryer exploded last week and I had to buy another one - annoying but on the upside my hair seems to have been transformed!
3 - my nephew has volunteered to help OH move, we're up three flights of stairs so this is a huge bonus!
4 - My desk calendar was given to me by a friend and has a different pair of shoes for each day (hee hee if only!), today's shoes are particularly pretty
5 - I had my first three month review at work yesterday which went well. Finding it a little odd that they are happy to leave me to my own devices as long as the core work gets done. It's great as I get to shape my role but I'm so used to working for someone and having objectives set for me that it feels a bit strange. I've set my own instead to keep me motivated!
    Good day to all.

newlywed - your mince stretching efforts make mine seem positively extravagant, what have you been doing, putting it on the rack?

Two finely chopped onions, a generous helping of red lentils and a few handfuls of oats ;)

Plus when I make lasagna it has thin layers of mince to get more pasta in there :D

The bolognaise left OH would probably eat all on his own if he could but I'm sure I can stretch to at least the two of us, if not the kids too - failing that, it will have kidney beans and chilli added for chilli wraps for us ;)
working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?
