Morning everyone! Hope you've had a good weekend..
My cousin is an adult with severe learning difficulties & now lives in assisted housing with three others but the 'staff' are marvellous people & work so hard to allow each housemate develop their full potential. I don't know what to call the folk who are employed there as they do so much more than a 'job' & truly make it a warm, close family unit. I was reminded of this yesterday when I spent some time with them, just strolling along in the sunshine. Cousin & a housemate, along with two 'facilitators' [], are staying on a holiday resort fairly close by so we arranged to meet because they live around 70miles from us :o
I am also grateful that generally people are now more accepting of differences. It doesn't bother me to be seen with my cousin--never has done--& I'm very pleased to say I've noticed a huge reduction in ugly stares.
Thankfully we were able to enjoy our walk, something I shall try hard to remember when the car is parked further away than I recall leaving it. Anyone else noticed a surge in those motorised scooters? :o Having the physical capability to put one foot in front of the other is anonther of those amazingly simple things that is all to easily taken for granted, until we can no longer do them for ourselves...very much "you don't know what you've got till it's gone".
Me muvva having the tea pot ready when I took Cuz for a visit :p..what would we do without our cuppa :D
Mobile telephony so I could let her know we were on the way ;)
Being able to cook all of the dinner in the oven, thus saving gas & washing up more pans! Fish fingers, chips & beans never tasted sooooo good!
Top Gear back on the telly :T
Snuggles with Pup..he acts like I've been away days as opposed to hours Bless him!

I hope your day ahead is filled with more Blessings than can be recorded..but I still like reading about them :p

  • Bigmumma - my dh is a teacher (well more of a facillitator like you said) for adults with severe learning disabilities and I have huge respect for the key workers/carers that work there at the residential facility. They are quite low-paid but the amount of time, care and attention that they give the residents is unbelievable. There are several young lads in their early twenties who work there and to tbh to look at them might imagine that they'd be just the people who would laugh and stare but they are fantastic. It's a job that I couldn't do. So  to all the care workers out there.

And just for that my number one is..
    1) Proud of my dh and the work he does.
    2) And thankful for the raised bed that he made for me yesterday. And on Father's Day too!
    3) The neighbours were having a bbq and I commented on how lovely it smelt and they bought us a big plate of grub round.
    4) Finally cleaned out the lobby and it gives me a real pleasure seeing it look so clean and tidy.
    5) Picking up DS1 from his scout sleepover. Apparently they didn't get to sleep till 5am  He always gets cuddly when he's been away so we made sure that we spent lots of time together playing board games and hugging.

I was in Cromer on Saturday and saw Craig from BB (as in Craig 'n' Antony) coming out of his new hair salon and I'm embarrassed to say that without thinking I nudged my husband and said loudly "Ooh - look who it is". I'm glad he didn't hear me as I wasn't star-struck (honest), there's just no filter between what I think and what comes out of my mouth! :o

Here are mine (and they don't include past BB housemates):

    1) Another lovely day, even though it looked like it could rain earlier today.
    2) The weekly chat at sports club with the other mums.
    3) A friend giving me some shea butter and a book about soap making.
    4) Having a couple of the mums saying how nice my clothes were today (that never happens!) and also comments on DS1s kind behaviour towards the younger children - I was glowing with pride.
    5) The family evening meal together. I always enjoy our chats around the dinner table.

Have a great evening everyone :D

Good evening everyone I hope that everyone is well? My five are a mixed bunch but I guess that's just the way of it sometimes.

    1. My best friend had some shocking news with her son (awful) but she came straight round and we talked (good) I'm glad we have each other :A

    2. Talking to DD about the above problem and getting her youthful perspective on it.

    3. Hearing that DS1 has got into college in September :T and knowing that he'll appreciate the chances there so much as he's had a bad year where he made some unwise choices.

    4. Hearing that DS2 won't be home for his tea tomorrow (his birthday) until 8pm (I'm not happy!) but being glad that he has friends to go to town & spend his birthday money with.

    5. Appreciating my life, with all it's ups & downs and learning to find the blessings in almost everything thanks to this thread.

I hope that everyone has a good evening and a pleasant day tomorrow xxx

Over the last few days I have:-

    1. Started to crochet a blanket from the large wool stash given to me by and old lady. Blankets rock here when we are trying to keep the fuel bills down in winter.

    2. Found an old potato which had escaped my beady eye and was lurking at the back of the veg rack. I've planted it in the garden and hope for a few spuds off it.

    3. Bought two chickens for £6 at Mr. A. Was going to feed one of them to DD and family tonight but came over all mean and cooked one chicken then made a chicken pie and put enough in the freezer for another one sometime.

    4. Sown a row of Florence Fennel seeds.

    5. Enjoyed pickings of my home grown salads, peas and carrots (very small and sweet.

    Bella.
