Back from my hols and so pleased to be home. Nice to have a break but often nicer to return. Sorry I haven't had a chance to read all posts properly yet so ((((hugs)))) to everybody, especially newlywed and sunnygirl, and wonderful news from kiwiblue :A

    Wednesday blessings...

    1. Coming back to find everything in the garden lovely, literally. Young lodger has taken care of it all so well, mowed the lawn and watered. The white lilac in full bloom smells heavenly, tomato seeds are 2" tall, new yellow buddleia is sprouting, gooseberries in abundance, and so on...

    2. Lots of freebies (tin of Nivea creme, bottle of Nivea lotion, coupon for free tub of Lurpack, two Aussie shampoos, pack of posh dog food, more seeds, and tickets to the Renault World Series in July - which I've given to a delighted young lodger as pat of his 18th b/day pressie - in the pile of post, it was a bit like a birthday opening them all :D

    3. A letter telling me I may after all be having my kitchen refitted. The HA said they weren't going to do it as I'd looked after it 'too well'..fancy being penalised for having a clean kitchen ...but hopefully may have had a change of heart

    4. Came home with some money so have taxed the car on line ready for the end of the month. A lovely feeling to know it's done and dusted for another year, and I don't have to scratch around for the pennies on 31st.

    5. A friend from my fellowship heard my holiday didn't go quite as planned so has invited me away for a weekend at the end of July, so what with taking DM away on 1st June as well, some good UK breaks to look forward to :D

Night night, God bless and sweet dreams all...:)

A very OS day for me yesterday so here are my five:-

    1. Making raspberry jam from frozen raspberries.

    2. Making marmalade from a tin of prepared oranges - cheating but works out cheaper.

    3. Making lemon curd.

All of the above will be incorporated into mini hampers I am giving as hostess pressies.

    4. Making butternut squash and carrot soup.

    5. Planting up my Tumbling Tom tomatoes into their final pots but they will be kept indoors for a little while yet.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable and fulfilling OS day.

    Bella.

    Here are mine from yesterday:

    1) Marvelling at how well DS2 is doing at maths as it's something I really don't enjoy doing (luckily I haven't passed on my dislike of maths to him!)
    2) Watching DS1 and the other scouts tucking into sausages that they'd cooked on a campfire outside their scout hut.
    3) Sorting out lots of clothes that I don't wear anymore (or don't fit :o) to sell on ebay.
    4) Whipping up a really quick and easy batch of choc chip muffins.
    5) More potting up of various veg and herb seedlings and watching everything slowly growing.

Hope everyone has lots of OS joy today :D

    1) " Free " ( well, paid for the stamps but eh ) italian cookbook came in the post via a Co op offer. Very nice, lots of good ideas and decent photos - retails at £8.99 normally so a bargain for £1.51 of stamps !

    2) Some bonuses culled from another package ( of sandals ) that arrived : box had been wrapped in a bin bag, managed to get packing tape off safely so hey, free bin bag ! plus the box and inside wrapping all recyclable/reusable, and they also threw in a free keyring !

    3) rotated the jars and tins in my storecupboard so the nearer " Best Before " dates are at the front - felt rather smug about this as I am not usually so organised about this !

    4) made soup for lunch from half a carton of tomato juice that has to be used by today, onion, celery, herbs from garden ( thyme, rosemary, basil ), red lentils and a bit of Marigold Swiss Bouillon powder - yummy, and enough for tomorrow too !

    5) tested out Co op value dried skimmed milk in my coffee this morning - very acceptable and better than some of the pricier versions - so will be using that in cooking and drinks from now on !

    :)

Not posted for a bit but still trying to be OS:
Over the last few days my OS pleasures have been:
    1. HM carrot, lentil, pepper and bean soup.
    2. knitting more of DS's cardigan.
    3. real nappies drying on the line (back to using them again after a brief gap when I had tonsilitis).
    4. wearing an extra fleece instead of putting heating on.
    5. HM banana muffins.
    Hope all are well.

    Hello all
Olliebeak - I wish I DID live in Fort William - lovely place. I'm a far flung Scot who is moving *home* this year. It's the Year of Homecoming (not mine in particular :D) so there should be plenty of good events going on. Hope you have a fabulous time - I love Fort William.

    5 blessings for today:
    1. Lovely snuggle for extra 10 mins with DH while alarm set on snooze
    2. Thick ham and salad sandwiches (from home of course) for our lunch at work
    3. Listening to some enthusiasm from students as they prepare to do a talk - things like skateboarding and one is doing his on his family
    4. HM spag bol from the freezer for tea - we went out for a drink by the river and it was lovely knowing that tea was going to be easily heated up but good and wholesome
    5. Another dry day so was lovely to see the garden looking nice

Hope everyone has a good evening

    1) Letting down a pair of red velvet curtains. They were in the lounge before we decorated and we moved the curtain pole up a bit so then they didn't fit and we can't afford new ones yet... They look good, I enjoyed the sewing and they were once very good quality, very soft velvet.
    2) Cooking a piece of brisket in the SC for the first time with a splash of left over wine, garlic, leeks and carrots and celery. It was lovely.
    3) An unexpected meal out last night. DH's colleague was over from the USA and to stop him staring at the wall for another night we took him for a curry. I was willing to pay our way but he got the bill at the end of a very pleasant evening.
    4) Having a fire this evening. A friend said I was welcome to pick up all the leftover wood from a project, so I did.
    5) The colour of the walls in the kitchen. I have to confess that we didn't like the first one - a fresh minty green. We repainted in a lovely grey/blue and it's perfect.
  • My OS pleasures for today were:-

    1) Joining the library. It should save me a fortune cause I love to read.
    2) Hanging the washing out and getting it dried.
    3) Using the Aunt Bessie yorkshire puddings that I bought for 50p to make Toad in the hole for OH and I.
    4) Finding a 1p in the road on the way to the library.
    5) Knitting my GD's cardigan.
