Five OS Pleasures in your day today

  • Still struggling slightly this week with 'feeling the love' as am still trying desperately to catch up on lost sleep (and yet am on here at gone 10pm at night, i could slap myself ;))

    My pleasures today were
    1. Playing with DD with her happyland playset which we purchased for her birthday in February but have only just opened as i decided she would probably appreciate her gifts more if they were spread out. We had a great time and DS seemed pretty entertained from his bouncer too (don't think it will be long before he is trying to ram said toys in his mouth and suck the life out of them - LOL).
    2. DD enjoying her game so much she fell asleep unaided for her daytime nap (a first, bless her).
    3. Having my free coffee in McD's using a token i 'wombled' :)
    4. Buying a HUGE carrier bag of bananas for £1 as i deliberately visited the market near to 'packing up time'.
    5. Knowing i am going to bake some lovely banana bread and make a banoffee pie using said bananas and that that should last the whole weekend (MIL coming to visit - arghhh).
    6. Taking some more boots to the cobbler that i had convinced myself were probably beyond repair and finding out they can be repaired after all because they are 'very well made' which convinced me that although i should still strive to be more economical with my clothing budget, that buying expensively does often pay for itself in the end.
    7. Homemade shepherds pie for dinner, a few months ago i would not have had the confidence to cook even basic meals from scratch.
    8. Realising that i am under budget on the grocery challenge this month and noticing i have a very well stocked storecupboard and half full freezer (whoopsies of course).
Well, what do you know, i have more to be grateful for than i thought/felt ;)
    Sleep well everyone

    Hiya all
Not been on here for a few days but finally read through all yours posts - most enjoyable - Thank You :A Welcome to all newbies. Hoping you ok Ollliebeak not read a post of yours for a while :(
    Right Im goin to rattle though my pleasures for the last few days as its very late & my bed is calling;
    1) Phoning GP surgery & getting an appointment for a few hours later that same day - what a blessing the NHS is.
    2) Having a sympathetic GP who listened & didnt make me feel like the hypochondriac that I feel like Ive become - I left feeling relieved with new meds to try & a request for a blood test just to be on safe side.
    3) Not taking my buggy with me on my trip to GP and my ds walked most of the way with me & was very sensible & well behaved - made for a stress free outing.:T
    4) My ds sleeping through the majority of the evening (thanks to the walking) - allowing me & dh to enjoy a relaxing evening in front of the telly.
    5) Watching Ashes to Ashes on the telly - Oh dear I think Ive fallen for DCI Gene Hunt :heartpuls & this programme has overtaken Desperate Housewives as my fave show at the mo.
    6) Getting soaking wet in the rain (bear with me) on my way to dm's - when I arrived she gave me one of her tops to change into & decided that it suited me more than her so she said I could have it - result!
    7) Spending time with dm & have a good ol natter over a cuppa - Its so nice when we get along - just wish it could be like that all the time but trouble is we are too alike!
    8) Bumping into lots of friends whilst in Mr t's so I spent more time chatting than I did shopping - so saved myself a heap of money.
    9) Reading Grabbit Now forum and noting that Mr T had 20% off clothing & being annoyed that I had bought clothes there the day before at full price - so I returned clothes then re-bought them at the 20% discount price ;)
    10) Watching Grand Designs & Desperate Housewifes in bed - eating one of ds easter eggs - bliss :EasterBun

    Hi all,

    here's mine:
    1. The car only needing a little bit of work - where the part should be about a tenner :D
    2. Borrowing my Dad's car while he's doing the work on mine - really appreciate the use of a car.
    3. Stopping off at the nice bakery on my way in to work and getting fruit loaf.
    4. There being a parking space right outside the bakery (no power steering on the car I've borrowed so the bigger space the better ;)).
5.Eating freshly baked fruit loaf - don't think it will last long ;)
    6. OH being soppy this morning as he had a bad dream about me.

    Dear everybody -
I am slightly back and know that I love Glasgow and will rtn - perhaps around September.
My little offering for rtn is this, from our Ops Mgr at Open Door:
CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL MY FRIENDS WHO WERE BORN IN THE
    1930s 1940s, 50s, 60s and early 70s !
First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they carried us and lived in houses made of asbestos
They took aspirin, ate blue cheese, raw egg products, loads of bacon and processed meat, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes or cervical cancer.
Then after that trauma, our baby cots were covered with bright coloured lead-based paints.
We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets or shoes, not to mention the risks we took hitchhiking.
As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags.

We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle.
Take away food was limited to fish and chips, no pizza shops, McDonalds , KFC, Subway or Nandos.
Even though all the shops closed at 5.30pm and didn't open on the weekends, somehow we didn't starve to death!
We shared one soft drink with four friends from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this.
We could collect old drink bottles and cash them in at the corner store and buy Toffees, Gobstoppers, Bubble Gum and some bangers to blow up frogs with.
We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank soft drinks with sugar in it, but we weren't overweight because......

    WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!!
We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.
No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K..
We would spend hours building our go-carts out of old prams and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. We built tree houses and dens and played in river beds with Matchbox cars.
We did not have Playstations, Nintendo Wii , X-boxes, no video games at all, no 999 channels on SKY ,

    no video/dvd films,

no mobile phones, no personal computers, no Internet or Internet chat rooms..........WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!
We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no

    lawsuits from these accidents.

    Only girls had pierced ears!

We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.
You could only buy Easter Eggs and Hot Cross Buns at Easter time...
We were given air guns and catapults for our 10th birthdays
We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just yelled for them!
Mum didn't have to go to work to help Dad make ends meet!
RUGBY and CRICKET had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!! Getting into the team was based on
    MERIT

Our teachers used to hit us with canes and gym shoes and bullies always ruled the playground at school.

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of.

They actually sided with the law!

Our parents didn't invent stupid names for their kids like 'Kiora' and 'Blade' and 'Ridge' and 'Vanilla'

We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO
    DEAL WITH IT ALL
And YOU are one of them!

    CONGRATULATIONS!
You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated our lives for our own good.

And while you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave their parents were.

PS -The big type is because your eyes are not too good at your age anymore

and I hope it qualifies as on os pleasure.
I will add my skypeness, which , with A's help and occasional rant moments, became operational hier soir, fittingly le jour de Saint Robert[my late blvd 0f 18 years].
I also especially count having met beanielou in Perth just 2 days ago[lovely town beside the Tay], a staunch and wise lady on many threads here.
My moments of quiet solace are returning and I hope to post them here at times.
Bless you all on a sunny, balmy day.
Sparrer - you were with me in many of my 'sharing good things' moments which I felt were also very much yours.
Was lucky enough to be in Glasgow while the Art Fair was on and had extended entry turned into complimentary over 3 wonderful days of visits.
I have now held some Picasso pots and am about to ring a reporter from Scotland on Sunday who asked me a few ?s in the shortly to be closed Paddy's Market, if he can trace the young kurdish-speaking Iraqi, age 16, parents murdered before his eyes, and on the run for the last 16 mths. He was due to an 11 am mtg at the British Refugee Council on Monday and did not rtn to Glasgow YH that night as planned....perhaps the reporter can do sth.
    I'm hoping so.
I would like to post a pic or two of some stunning work from the Art Fair - I was amazed that this was permitted. Over and again I marvelled humbly at the extraordinary chance that makes a human brain and capacity able to have such visions and execute them....and to remember that we are ALL human.
We do all have some such capacity.

  • Hi everyone
All my pleasures have been rolled into one:
DH has been cleared of cancer. The operation was a huge success, and the latest tests show no sign at all of it. Now we just have to get him to recover fully from the operation!
So we packed up and did a tour of the North Island - hence no postings for a week or so.
Was great to see the sights again - from Russell in the Bay of Islands to Taupo and back home again.
Was great to go, but is sooo good to be back home.

    Blessings be
    Jennie
