jollymummy, well done with the cards and recycled material too.
shopndrop, O dear, poor you, I liked getting my bed all nice and clean but I hope not to have to do it again within a few days.
Essex-girl - Welcome, you seem to be getting real satisfaction with OS which is what this thread is all about.
lillibet-dripping, congrats on taking control of your finances and finding peace of mind in doing it and welcome to this thread, keep us posted with you new found pleasures.

    Five recent pleasures.

    1. Sunshine when I thought rain was coming.

    2. Watering my newly planted seeds because the rain didn't come.

    3. Meeting up with lots of old friends over the weekend.

    4. Finally getting to the sewing up of DGD's cardigan.

    5. Lovely family and comfortable home.

    Bella.

Thank you for your kind words of welcome yesterday. Isn't it amazing - when you start to look for the blessings, you realise that you have so many to count. Life in this household used to be so hectic that we hardly had time to stop and talk to each other. We were on the consumer bandwagon hurtling towards bankruptcy. After divorce (etc. etc. etc.) I find the simplest things give me the same buzz. Finding a ys bargain at Sainsbugs makes my day:rotfl:

Here are mine for yesterday (I will try to keep to 5:rotfl:)

    1. Planting some more carrots, beetroot, mange tout and lettuce. Potting on the chard, lettuce and tomatoes

    2. Not having to drive or go anywhere - Sunday is now our true day of rest. I make it a rule that Sunday is our 'stay-at-home' day. If the kids want to go out, they get on their bikes or get the other child's parents to do the taxi-ing:rotfl:

    3. Seeing 3 piles of freshly ironed clothes sitting on my just-polished farmhouse table. *sighs - longing for farmhouse*

    4. Mum and dad phoning to invite me and kids out to dinner on Wed eve (my birthday:j)

    5. DD being so proud of herself for being 'organised' for school i.e. uniform ready, homework done, buspass on the hall table, locker key in purse etc. etc. She really struggled with being organised at junior school - probably didn't help that I worked at the same school and could pop home if she forgot anything:rolleyes:

I could go on and on, but must get up and get ready for work!
    Have a lovely, pleasurable day

Welcome Essex-girl it is amazing how stress free HM cooking can be and so much cheaper too.
lillibet dripping - Well done for getting your finances under control. It is amazing how much better you feel when in control of your finances.
Sunnygirl - it is amazing what a difference it makes having your main meal at lunchtime on Sunday. Feels like you have so much more free time.
Bellaquidsin - it is amazing how much we can take for granted "a lovely family and comfortable home" - think this is what this thread is all about, making us realise the really good and simple things in life.

    1. Seeing that the pea seeds I planted are starting to show through.
    2. A day out with OH on Saturday taking a picnic with us. OK so it rained but we sat in the car and enjoyed our salad and HM cake whilst laughing at the couple who paid £2.40 each for a slice of "HM chocolate cake with ice cream" from a stall. Can't believe that we would have done this once, whereas now I think £4.80 for 2 bits of cake, I could make so many HM cakes for this amount.
    3. Mum and dad coming over to eat with us on Sunday and sending them off with a couple of extra roast meals and some HM crumbles to pop in their freezer for during the week to save dad cooking.
    4. Like Sunnygirl having our main meal at lunchtime on Sunday and feeling like we had loads of extra time to do what we wanted.
    5. Rain this morning so I don't need to water my veg plants. Just hope it dries up later though so I can get my washing on the line.
    6. Getting some new solar lights for the garden - got 4 for the price they wanted for 1 in Homebase and they actually look like the same lights.

    Afternoon all
Haven't been around as my keyboard is a bit erm knacked so I'm using my ds's tiny ELMO mouse, not the most comfortable thing. Here's mine for last 48 hours.
    1. Sorted out major problem with bank account, see the rant thread for further info.
    2. went for a lovely walk yesterday to a local country park that I've driven by many times and never visited - just lovely.
    3. Spent rainy day with my ds today, painting, making birthday cards and baking.
    4. Used up some old carrots and oranges, making orange and carrot muffins, they smell scrummy, but too hot to eat :)
    5. Got my water butt outside half filled by the heavy rain today.
    6. My ds has just walked in and said I'm like you now Mummy, he has two balloons up his t.shirt - had to mention it :)
    Have a nice day.
    JM xx

Hello everyone! My 5 for today are:

    1. Enjoying half an hour of sun in between the rain all day.

    2. Getting all my list of jobs completed this morning.

    3. Talking to a neighbour about the gardens.

    4. DS2 being at home until 10.30am as he had an exam - we had a nice time chatting.

    5. The smell of tonights meal - spaghetti bolognese - as it's been simmering

    HI all, here's mine:

    1. Baked butternut squash (new recipe I hadn't tried - very easy and yummy it was too).
    2. Walking in the rain - got soaked but quite enjoyed it.
    3. Getting my car tax and finding out the budget changes only apply after 1 May so I'm sorted for the price I expected - unusual as the changes usually apply straight away.
    4. Finding some BOGOF offers in Tesco on a few things I wanted and didn't buy last week in sainsbugs in the hope there'd be an offer ;)
    5. Laughing and cuddling with my OH.
    6. The health shop finally getting castor oil in so I can try the oil cleansing method (for your skin, not your bowels!!) mentioned on here - tried 4 different shops seems like no one stocks it anymore
    7. Picking up Frugal Food (Delia) from the library and realising it's not that inspiring and I'm glad I didn't buy it :p

    Edit: and a couple more:

    8. OH bringing me a cuppa tea in bed on Sunday morning (doesn't happen often and I love it).
    9. Buying myself a lovely bunch of gerbera and daisy type flowers from Lidl for the grand sum of £2.91. Flowers make me smile when I look at them.

shopndrop - I don't walk with a group or anything, just on my own . I don't really enjoy many forms of exercise but I like walking, daydreaming, looking around, thinking to myself, and just having a bit of me time.

I need to lose the little bit of weight I've put back on, and need to tone up and get a bit fitter, so it seems like a good way to do it - even though my trainers are soaking wet whilst sat at work :o

At weekends just recently, I leave OH to look after the kids and go for a walk. It's theraputic - me-time.

Recently I got some books out of the library on what my city used to look like 100 odd years ago and found it has added a bit more interest to my walks, as I'm looking for the house that was in the picture, and wondering about the bits that used to be there. Reading about people's memories of how they used to walk out to various places round the city got me thinking how lazy we are today (disabled people obviously excluded from my comment - I'm talking fairly fit and healthy but always opting for car/bus).

I've got some time off soon and I'm planning an hour long walk (about 4 miles) to the next village and then possibly back again, or maybe on further (to a couple of charity shops ;) and then maybe bus back) - that's somewhere I would never have even considered walking to before even though we like to go visit the village fairly regularly.

Bella yes as shop n drop says "it is amazing how much we can take for granted "a lovely family and comfortable home" even though I do not have either of those, I love to search for the tiny pleasures in life.

Sparrer the cable was right next to our flats so didn't have far to carry and besides it really didnt weigh that much.

shopndrop I walk alone. I don't really like walking but as I am trying to lose weight and don't have much money it is a free option and you don't really notice that you are exercising and it is easy and painfree to do - well for me it is.

I get a bit upset with my local library when you folks all write that your local one orders books in for you etc. As tho our borough has been in the national press re libraries and expansion of them etc, I know that from what staff there have told me they really don't get much say in what they buy anymore. They get sent books and it is a choice from that and a lot of them are really minority or like 53 thousand copies of whatever is on Richard N Judy. :( There are a few books such as Victorian Farm and Grow Your Own Drugs i'd love to read but just can't afford.

Here's some pleasures to temper the moan before I go off to chop lo roast chicken for my dinner.

    Friday

    1. several long walks

    2. free ES mag from station in the Metro bins

    3. sunny day

    4. cheap M&S cream of chicken soup for lunch

    5. cow n gate giggling babies ad

    6. soap samples - too small to use but they smell nice

    7. peppermint latte@ Starbucks

    8. library books - 2 cook books and 1 eco housekeeping book

9, YS roast chicken and value sweetcorn for dinner

10.laughing at Boogeyman 2 dvd won in a contest.

reverbe - our city libraries have online ordering and reserving of books. You can look up what books are in any of the 8 or so libraries (large and tiny - some in the outer villages from the city) and then order it to be picked up from your local little library. It's so easy.

Can your library not borrow books from other ones in the area? Or is it just that I'm really spoiled living in a city :o

On the other hand - I rarely find anything worth picking up on the street - it's more likely to be cigarette ends, condoms and used chewing gum

Only one today and it's not a pleasure. The constant rain dictated an "indoor" day, so we bit the bullet and made inroads into completing our annual tax return. This is always known in our house as "Grumpy Day" and has to be accompanied by lots of tea breaks and nice biscuits for comfort.

I'm not in a city and our local libraries all do the same. There was a change on purchasing policy last April but they will order/buy most things that are requested. I order stuff online as it saves time for the staff trawling through various sites to find the book I want ;)
