Good Morning to All, :hello: Sunnygirl so pleased your dad is home and safe and I hope all goes well with him. Kiwiblue it's so good to hear that your DH is doing well. Who said midges I had loads of bites a week or two back all up my legs and 17 on my chest and shoulders. Horrrible things. I don't know if I am allergic but they certainly like me and I come up in great blisters.

    1. Getting the house back to order after DGK's left.

    2. A long phone call (talktalk) from a friend who lives miles away.

    3. Baking scones (date/wholemeal) mixed berry muffins and three large loaves.

    4. DH made £30 on selling my cards yesterday :T

    5. Feeling altogether calmer and less likely to hurl myself across the floor.

Morning all. It's amazing isn't it that when you can have a lie in you're awake with the birds yet when you have to get up for work you just want to lie in!!

Patchwork Quilt - I hadn't heard about marmite and dh eats loads and doesn't get bitten. We don't have the heating on either but that's because we ran out of oil. I forgot to order some yesterday so it'll be next week before we get a delivery.

Kiwiblue - Well done to your dh on his recovery. I'll keep everything crossed that he's beaten the cancer.

sparrer - I watched Susan Boyle on youtube too. It was funny when everyone realised what an amazing voice she has and how their attitudes all changed. I'm with you in that I hope she doesn't change.

I'm off to the garden centre soon with dh to get compost and maybe a few more plants. Then it's back out into the garden to clear away some more space. I'm working round the big pile of rubbish (old tree that was pulled up, old fencing and some hedging - dh's friend came with his digger and "excavated" it but didn't take it away.......2 years ago). I'll have to tackle it soon though.

    Anyway yesterday's pleasures:
    1. DD's interview was successful and she starts her new job in 2 weeks. She currently works as a waitress but the hours aren't regular and the pay isn't good. At least the new job is guaranteed 20 hours a week (to fit round her studies) and better pay.
    2. Meeting a friend yesterday who I've not seen for a while. She has MS and had been having a bit of a tough time but yesterday she looked amazing and so happy. We're going to meet up again in a couple of weeks.
    3. Having another quick and cheap dinner of gnocchi, hm tomato & basil sauce with a few dollops of mascarpone and a little parmesan and then grilled until it was browned. It was yummy and the gnocchi was on offer at Mr T's for £1 per bag so I got a few bags and put them in the freezer.
    4. A quiet night with a glass of wine and gardeners world followed by Kirstie's Homemade whatever (which I'd recorded last night). I was a bit disappointed with the programme but I got a couple of ideas from it.
Right, I'd better wake dh up if we're ever to get out of here.

    Have a great day everyone.

:hello: everybody - Ooooh another Saturday morning - the weekend is here - and the sun's shining :j! Hope the weather is good for everybody else too.

Need a trip to the village/shopping centre (used to be a village years ago and is still - laughingly - called that today :rotfl:. One of my ladies wants a pair of pj's - not sure I'll find what she wants though - old-fashioned pair of pj's - cotton/button-up jacket style  - oh well we live in hope ....... I also need to keep away from Asda altogether - if I come home with another load from there OH will not be best pleased. We've got enough food in to feed the 5,000 and go away three weeks today - still it means that we're well stocked for when we return and won't have to worry about keeping hold of pennies for filling the freezer up again (well that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it ).

Hope you dad is enjoying his newly-found freedom, Sunnygirl and well enough to make the most of the nice weather :).

Blackpool never seems to change, sparrer. Then again, I've not been for years - but I bet we can still find everything that we'll be looking for. We'll be out of there by 6.00 - early enough to miss all the riotous hen/stag parties that seem to take over the streets once the evening arrives. Looks like I'll be with anybody who'll need help, wheelchair pushing, arm holding, bags carrying, nobody to go with etc. Think I'll book the following day off work to recover :D.

Hi kiwiblue - hope you and OH have a good weekend - sounds like you're gonna have to put him on a set of reins to slow him back down again ;)! He's even bringing home self-caught food for the table as well :j.

lol at your face-painting, scrummy-mummy - sounds like lots of fun. How I wish our mum had been able to find time for that kind of thing when we were kids. Just think, those are the fond memories your kids will have when they're all grown-up!

Sounds like you and your family enjoyed your days out, meet_and_2reg - I loved those kinds of days with my kids and unfortunately don't get much time to do them with the dgk's - just let them wait till retirement, I'll walk the legs off them (if my knees can stand the pace these days!).

Hester - you need to take a cossie for your next walk with the lodger(just in case). Your DD2 sounds similar to my 'Calamity Jane' - and I wouldn't have her any other way ;) - was coffee (and ciggies) this past week. Couldn't cope with 3 kids home all day without either/both  - and she wonders why I told her she should have thought long and hard before bin-bagging her OH!

wtg clutterydrawer - those are the kind of pleasures I like too  - any invites for coffee ;)?

mineallmine - love your No.3 - awwww for my Tiggy-tiger . Discovered more cat hairs yesterday - lifted the padded cover from the pouffee in the bay-window and lo and behold the top of the pouffee was thick with them (there was nothing on the padded cover cos he hated it - but loved the top of the pouffee when it was uncovered :rotfl:).

omg Patchwork Quilt  - think I prefer the midgies to Marmite _pale_. Hope your family crisis resolves soon - not nice when everybody is upset by something.

I wish those midgies were only at work in the evenings, Lelc - our caravan was absolutely full of the blighters . No wonder the Romans never properly invaded Scotland/Alba - they were wimps, beaten by the winter weather and summer critters - no matter what the history books tell us :rotfl:!

    Here we go:

    1. Had a veggie freezing session yesterday - bags of carrots, swede, parsnip, sugar snaps and 'mangey tuts' all stashed - how I love whoopsie veg :j! Also stewed (in microwave) and froze some mankey looking apples - OH had bought Granny Smiths in mistake for Golden Delicious but they set my teeth on edge. They are fab if cooked with a little brown sugar . Frozen in very small marge tubs.

    2. Ham and salad barm cakes for lunch with muller fruit corner - all whoopsied.

    3. More bookings for Blackpool and most have paid already :).

    4. Chips, egg and baked beans for evening meal - not had that for ages and we both really enjoyed it, even if OH did pull his face at first .

    5. This morning I've made a batch of Celery Soup with some wilting celery from the bottom of the fridge - first attempt and not bad considering I didn't use a recipe :j.

Just about to go for a shower and get out to the 'village' - longing to see what bargains are hiding in my fave charity shop.

Have a great OS moneysaving saturday everybody  - Ollie xxx

Sorry mineallmine, bella and Lelc - missed your morning postings - I took so long that you all beat me to it :o.

Good luck with the planting, mineallmine; (((big hugs))) for bella - you have my undying sympathy for those bites - I had them inside my ears last time (and places that never see the light of day :o) - try some Piriton it does help - and well done on the cards :); Lelc - Susan Boyle was fantastic and also I'm with you and sparrer in hoping that they don't try to 'make her over' too much as it would be cruel.

  • Just a short one for today but

    1) DD's boyfriend safely back from charity work overseas
    2) Lovely long walk in the sunshine with DH. We are so lucky that we don't have to go far for some stunning scenery
    3) An iced latte in Costa afterwards
    4) Some mishapen Thorntons to go with it. I know you shouldn't take your own stuff into a coffee shop but I need to eat wheat free and I get a bit bored with their flapjack all the time
    5) Reading everyone else's blessings

There. We got to five! Happy weekend everyone

Ollie I love your tales of life as a scheme manager, the trips pushing wheelchairs, carrying shopping etc etc brings back many happy memories. I also remember making sure the foot spa was handy for when I got back to my own bungalow after an event or day out. That was bliss ;)

    Saturday blessings...

    1. DS and future DGS arrived for lunch after DS [STRIKE]reffed[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]ref'd[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]ref'ed[/STRIKE]...darn it refereed a football match, ate me out of house and home and made off for Lancs again. Bless them :D

    2. Postie brought me five packets of veg seeds, potato tubers and black sacks - big thanks to the freebie board - just wish I knew what to do with them  (the instructions are for planting straight into the ground so will google it). The veg seeds are going to my lodgers mum, no matter how I try I can't squeeze them in my 25' x 18' plot. She (postie) also brought me a sachet of Vital Restore face cream..bit late now but I'll try anything once more :rotfl:

    3. Planted a rose, sowed some tomato seeds and admired the three new tiny gooseberries that have appeared to join the one I found a couple of days ago. I'm dreamimg of gooseberry crumble, yummy

    4. Phone call from ex OH who saw GP yesterday, apparently they're going ahead with his hip replacement even though he had a (mild) coronary 2 weeks ago. Booked in to a private hospital via NHS for 4 weeks time so he'll be back on the golf course in a few months. He's driving me mad with his phone calls when he's bored

    5. Going to bed in a mo in fresh air dried sheets and pj's, with a cup of hot chocolate and a new book.

Night night everybody, sweet dreams and ((((hugs)))) to all...

    Morning all.
    1. What another beautiful morning, sun shining again.
    2. Off to a BBQ later for a friend's 50th birthday.
    3. Had a lovely meal last night in a posh restaurant courtesy of friend's OH for her birthday treat.
    4. Walking to the library yesterday with OH in the sunshine instead of getting the car out and only going to the library not visiting the shops so a no spend day.
    5. Sitting in the garden having a toasted sandwich - unfortunately had to take the Asda basic mozzarella off as it was awful. (Never mind - first time I have tried this from Asda will go to Mr S for their basic mozzarella which is much better IMHO.)

Have a lovely day everyone and hope the sun is shining for you too.

Goooood Morning everyone - and what a beautiful sunny morning it is with clear blue skies. There was ice on the car this morning so it must have been cold last night. Not that I noticed as I was absolutely shattered from yesterday's battle with the brambles so slept right through the night.

    Yesterday's best bits:
    1. Going with dh to a garden centre that has a really nice cafe. We sat and chatted about our garden over tea and bacon rolls. After that a stroll around the centre and bought some more earlies that can be planted in pots.
    2. Visiting 2 other garden centres with dh and getting redcurrant and blackcurrant bushes as well as compost and growbags. Now all I need to do is get my puts filled and seeds planted.
    3. The weather was initially cold and grey but brightened up into a beautiful warm, sunny day.
    4. Spending the afternoon out in the garden clearing a bit more space for my veggie plot. The roots of the weeds/grass are so dense that I can't get the spade in so I'm reduced to kneeling over a small bit at a time and hacking away with an axe - but I did do quite a bit yesterday. I also tackled some more of the brambles on the sloping bit of the garden. They've grown right in the middle of the rhodedendrons so aren't easy to get at but I'm getting there. It's really satisfying to drag them out and chop them up into small bits.
    5. Dh getting fish & chips for tea as I was too exhausted to cook (not very OS I know) and then curling up to watch Primeval in front of the woodburner.
Well I'm going to get some washing done and on the line and then it's out to the garden again. I hope you all have a happy day.
