Five OS Pleasures in your day today
Comments
-
Good evening, although I really should be thinking about bed soon - I'm so tired! Here are my favourite five:
1). After having sorted out a bag of my old wool from my wardrobe and resolving to take it to the charity shop, a colleague at work wanted the lot and is going to make some children's toys from it.
2). The look of gratitude when I handed over a small bag of clothes to the charity shop. It made me feel warm.
3). Turning pork steaks into something fab with honey and mustard powder... mmm, I'm still having happy thoughts about that.
4). Planning to sit down and do some more on my cross stitch later tonight.
5). Enjoying a lovely thunderstorm.

1.The pleasure I get from staying at home with DS until he starts school in September, it's totally skinted us but been worth EVERY penny.
2.Finding a total bargain in a charity shop-what a buzz!
3. Giving and receiving with great appreciation on Freecycle
4. Getting the perfect loaf out of my breadmaker.
5. Watching DS pick and scoff lots of cherry tomatoes from our tiny greenhouse every Summer:hello:

Bella  do not pass go, do not collect £200, just wrap yourself in layers of cotton wool until this phase passes . So pleased you have such a supportive OH, bless them they do come up trumps when they have to don't they? Do take care now!
meat_n2_reg fishing in the rain sounds fun, many moons ago before you were even a twinkle in your mother's eye, my Uncle used to take us sea fishing and I loved it when it rained.
scousewife it's heartwarming to hear what a real blessing some families are.
Thursday blessings...
1. The rain - yes I know , but after a couple of days pottering, pruning and preening in the garden it really does freshen everything up and is so needed at this time of year
2. Out shopping at Mr A for some bits my friend in Rhodes asked me to get her, I did something I never do, bought a snack to eat in the car on the way home. How decadent was that? Lazy mare, I was going home for lunch anyway but couldn't resist when I saw a YS Ginsters Cornish pasty
3. Had to stop at the farm shop (of course, it's on the way home from Mr A) and found a lemon yellow buddleia for my sunshine garden. I've never seen one that colour before and I love butterflies so can't wait til it grows up - it's only a baby in a small pot at the mo.
4. I've been looking for a laptop sleeve so the laptop is protected during travel but am reluctant to pay the prices the shops want. I had a brainwave - cut the top and sleeves off a fleece sweater and sewed the front and back together iyswim, then sewed some velco on the hem end, which has done the job pefectly, and free. I now have a pretty lilac and white cover with 2 buttoned patch pockets which were already on the sweater and it only took me just over an hour this evening :j
5. Just had another OS idea, I'm going to turn one of the sleeves of the fleece into a sleeve for carrier bags, it'll match my lilac kitchen
Night night everybody, sweet dreams and ((((hugs)))) to all. I'm off to do some more sewing :rolleyes2

scousewife thanks for your kind thoughts. I hope you are feeling better and so glad you are able to get some tlc while you are recovering.
sparrer your comment 'do not pass go' etc., made me laugh so much:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: The trouble is not my body, it's my head, it's in such a whirl as I have been so busy over the last little while and I know I am just not concentrating. Time to slow down, I think. You sound to be on a roll with your sewing. It's so satisfying to produce something isn't it and especially where there is no cost involved. I think you deserved a Ginsters pasty.
I'm off now to 'slowly' work on today's pleasures. Whatever I do, I promise not to take the steps into the bathroom.
See you all later,

:hello: Hi everybody - haven't posted for a couple of days, but have been busy work-wise.
Thanks all for your kind thoughts about dgs's front teeth - so far, they're still in place  but he does have a bit of a 'trout pout' at the moment (daren't tell him that tho) - fingers crossed that he doesn't get hold of an apple or carrot or similar.
Good to see you're improving, scousewife, and lovely to hear about your fabulous dm, oh and family.
For goodness sake, bella, what were you playing at? Step ladder, door frame plus back steps - tut tutgirl - sounds just like the kind of thing that I'd go and do
. :T for your OH for the way he rallied round!
Love your idea for a lappy cover and plastic bag sleeve, sparrer :j. Sounds like you and frugalswan could live near each other as you were both 'storm watching'.
Welcome to meat_and_2reg (great name) - it'll be good to have a man's take on things  - and welcome to any other newbies around - apologies if I haven't remembered all the postings/names but this thread seems to grow so quickly if you miss a couple of days.
Mineallmine - I love shopping on my own too and chatting to other bargain hunters in the supermarket. Can't do that when OH's around.
Great news about your dad, Sunnygirl - bet your mum is glad to get him back home and safe in his own bed again :j!
Lelc - pleeeeese don't tell me that the darn midgies are at it already:eek::eek:! I'll be in Fort William in three weeks and I'm allergic to their bites . We've chosen mid-May cos I hoped they wouldn't be too active. Last time we went in summer (June/July 2007) I was bitten to pieces and spent a fortune on all kinds of lotions/potions/sprays/candles/antihistamines before discovering Bogmyrtle Spray.
My blessings for the past few days:
1. My planned trip to Blackpool is going down very well with my tenants and over half of the seats have sold already :j. Plus they've all 'behaved' themselves recently , and not given me any major problems.
2. Had a few no-spend-days this week and used up some containers of frozen left-overs (chillis, curries etc) with jacket spuds and pasta.
3. Trip to Asda yesterday evening and lots of whoopsies with my name on them, some great rollbacks and offers on what I was planning to buy. Got lots to keep us going before we go away and for after we come back home again
. Long-life milk in the cupboard, fresh milk in freezer, bread in freezer, lots of little parcels of meat in freezer.
4. One of the straps on my shoe broke in Asda last night  - I was hobbling around like Cinderellaand managed to find a pair of sandal/mule type things that fitted for £15 :j - not often I find anything for my feet (size 9's) - and had a good laugh with the sales assistant about throwing away my other shoes (well wrapped I might add
).
5. Need to get our travel tickets booked today - what a blessing the internet is sometimes :j.
6. Had a clearout of paperstuff from comp desk, bedroom, office, coffeetable shelf etc - all names/addresses removed and shredded - and the recycling bin is now nearly full for collecting next week. Where does all this paper come from? My own fault really, I suppose - mostly recipes/leaflets that I pick up and just can't throw away in case I need it . I've copied all those recipes up onto the comp now and stashed in 'My Recipes Folder'
.
Hope we all have a good MoneySaving OS day today - speak again later folks. Ollie xxx0 -
3. Had to stop at the farm shop (of course, it's on the way home from Mr A) and found a lemon yellow buddleia for my sunshine garden. I've never seen one that colour before and I love butterflies so can't wait til it grows up - it's only a baby in a small pot at the mo.
Wow a yellow buddleia, that sounds really nice. Buddleia are so hardy (have to be with me) - will keep a look out for this.
Sorry to hear about bumps, teeth and various other things. I've decided to post some this morning as I'd forgotten about these:
1. a lovely meal of roast chicken - covered in corn oil, honey, black pepper and all spice (a caribbean type spice)
2. writing to local councillor about some local road safety issues - finally clicked in my brain that they are there for things like this!
3. cutting myself slack on my budget spreadsheet - I've got behind so will start again - it's the trying that counts

Good afternoon everyone.
Olliebeak - sorry to say this but the midges have been spotted. I'm allergic to their bite too so I have to cover up when I'm out although they only really tend to bite in the evening (well, bite me that is). I'm sure you'll be fine though maybe just take some spray with your for good measure.
bellaquidsin - maybe some body armour would help and a crash helmet!!
My pleasures from yesterday:- Clearing yet more of the garden and starting to clear the grass of an area that I can use for my veg patch. Also moving the pile of cuttings either into the bin or to the back of the garage.
- DH taking an interest in the garden and suggesting ways of building the raised beds. OK so no physical committment to helping but maybe once he sees things growing he'll want more involvement.
- A joiner at work offering to come out and measure up and price for a new walk-in wardrobe for dd (in reality it'll be a large cupboard in the corner of the room). It'll be so much cheaper than buying new bedroom furniture.
- A quick and cheap (although not healthy) meal of sausage, egg and chips. The eggs were organic free range that I get from a chap at work for 60p for half doz. So much cheaper than the shops. It meant dinner was cooked, finished and cleaned away by 6.30 pm which left loads of evening time in the garden.
