Five OS Pleasures in your day today

Good morning everyone. My first post on this thread - don't know why I've not ventured into here before! It's such an uplifting thread. Sometimes I think it's too easy to focus on the negatives.
Anyway the good things from yesterday:- I'm on holiday this week so I was able to spend a whole day with my youngest dd (19) as she was off yesterday too. We finished tidying her bedroom and just chatted and laughed about all sorts of things. Bliss!!
- Had the time to make rock buns, apple cake and apple crumble to use up oldish apples.
- Dd made me a tuna mayo sandwich for lunch and a cup of tea.
- Lovely dinner of gnocchi (never had it before) and tomato/basil sauce followed by the apple crumble and custard. There was only me and dh so it was really nice and relaxing.
- Searched through my book cupboard and found 5 books I haven't read yet so went to bed early with one of the unread books.
Have a great day everyone.Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts - DFW Nerd 323

:hello: everybody! Have had a crazy busy work-week and not been on here since about Tuesday. Just been catching up with everybody's posts. Haven't you all been busy-bees :j!
School holidays - Oh boy you all have my sympathy - especially the ones with teeagers . They're a wee bit too old for the child-like joys of Easter and never seem 'to know what to do with themselves'. I don't think I'd like to re-visit my own young teen days again!
Those going away for weekend - Hope you all have a peaceful and safe journey and a lovely relaxing break - lucky people.
All you gardeners - that's it now - I'm completely jealous. I MUST get something planted this weekend. NO excuse as it seems that the frosts are over (oops fingers crossed in case the bad weather fairy heard me!). I've got the seeds, seedtrays, troughs, compost - so nothing to stop me really. My lily bulbs from last year have grown to about 10inches in their containers - but I didn't even remove them from the pots to protect them from frost - cruel Ollie .
Sick relatives/friends - sorry to hear about folks who are worrying - prayers for you all AND your relatives/friends recovering.
Welcome to Lelc - good to meet you! It's a great thread here - really helps to maintain positive thoughts - even if you have a 'down moment', other people's blessings/pleasures can be so uplifting.
I've had such mixed blessings this week, but I'll try to pick out some good ones:
1. Annual competency review has been postponed YET AGAIN! Line Manager can forget about it altogether, if she wants to !
2. Long weekend off-duty - so lots of time to get that seed sowing done and no excuse for OH not to get stuck into the mowing and strimming (wicked laughing Ollie smiley).
3. DS2 turned up with dgs2 and dgs3 for a couple of hours visit during the week - lovely time spent with some of 'my boys'. And he was able to give me a lift to somewhere that I had to go when he was leaving. Unfortunately they ate all my remaining Lemon Drizzle Cake while they were here - oh well a good enough reason to bake some more :j.
4. Three hours later DD arrived with dgd2 for a couple of hours - oh the joys of school holidays. Lovely to hear dgd2 trying to talk when her sister and brother aren't around. They do far too much for her and don't give her an opportunity to 'ask' for things.
5. Had my one-to-one tutorial and got good feedback from my assignment, but it looks as though I won't be following on with my course. It's not a requirement for my job, just a certificate that would be 'useful' to have. Part of it needs 'being observed while doing activities with client group' which would prove difficult for me as I don't have a 'community facility' where I could be observed. Oh well - one less pressure in my life to aggravate my Blood Pressure :T!
6. Having a rare chat on phone to my younger sister. We don't manage to do this as often as we should so it was good to 'have a natter' like we used to. We have lots in common (three children plus numerous dgk's each) but just not much spare time.
7. Spent some time this week planning trips for our holiday - only 4 weeks away now :j. We've been going there for so long, that it's getting difficult to find things we haven't done before.
8. Have managed to use up quite a bit of stuff from the depths of the freezer this week - and have discovered some Leek and Potato soup for lunchtime today. OH is on whoopsied Extra Special Wild Alaskan Salmon Fishcakes with oven chips and salad and I'm on whoopsied King Scallops with salad for evening meal.
9. Got a marathon baking session planned for this afternoon - Lemon Drizzle Cake, Victoria Sandwich, Iced Fairy Cakes (with lemon/orange slices on top) and a batch of fruit scones- hope I've got enough tins/containers for them all PLUS hiding places
.
10. Also got some whoopsied rhubarb and plums from Asda yesterday evening. Some wrinkly eating apples in the fruit bowl so rhubarb and apple crumble to be made.
Hope you all have a pleasant Good Friday and manage to find a few moments of quiet if you feel the need for a time of meditation/reflection.0 -
Hi chaps! I think a holiday without the internet is actually a good thing but it's nice to be back.
Here are mine for recently
1) A "week" at Spring Harvest in Skegness with a friend. We go without our husbands and share a chalet. It's messy. There are lots of kids and only two of us but it's always funny. This was the year when one of the girls split a whole cup of cocoa into her clothes bag ...
2) DS and DD winning a talent contest. It's really boosted his confidence and the prizes were lovely
3) Being spiritually fed
4) Meeting up with DH again after 6 days away. Those first few minutes together were lovely
5) Being back in my own home/kitchen, messy as it is. The deocrator is still manfully struggling with the hall, stairs and landing but I can see that it will all come together0 -

Hope you haven't hurt yourself too much.
Mine for today.
1. Just taken sponsorship money to a neighbour who ran his first marathon last weekend and wanted sponsorship for Leukaemia research (one of the children in the road was diagnosed last year and will be having treatment for 3 years). It was good to talk to this neighbour who has only ever said hello previously when passing. Always think it is amazing that you can live near someone for years yet never say more than hello.
2. Discussing with same neighbour how all the neighbours in the road have rallied around and rather than everyone "keeping to themselves" many of the neighbours now find time to talk to others.
3. DS came home on Wed evening so life is really hectic again but just soooo lovely. Only thing is that it makes me very aware of the "empty nest syndrome" which I thought I had got over.
4. Off to a friend's son 18th party tonight.
5. Meeting up with mum and dad for a carvery in a local pub - it is so cheap (about £5 each including a drink) and excellent food too.
Hope you all have a wonderful Easter weekend.0 -
Afternoon, everyone. Mine for the day are:
1) Waking up with daylight streaming through the curtains as opposed to the metallic racket of my alarm clock.
2) Having lost a little bit of weight through eating correctly and exercising.
3) Getting my mealplan in order for a couple of weeks and coming up with some dishes I would never have previously tried to make, like last night I made stroganoff for the first time as a treat (with low fat stuff and wild rice) and it was the most amazing thing I have ever made.
4) Having a nice relaxing bath in the middle of the day and enjoying the feeling of freshly shaved legs!
5) Planning my hen party to be a fun time with close friends and little expense at all!
Have a good rest of day everyone

Lovely to read all the positive experiences here - so varied and all uplifting.
Mine for today:
1. Typing here beside young dog who is fast asleep in her fresh bed. I've given her a kind of pillow with the covers and she is sound-o.
2. An earlier than usual walk with dogs this morning and all kinds of birdsong was going on. It was lovely to listen to it .
3. Made a big pot of curried veg soup for tea - I had 2 bowls- yum yum.
4. Moved the bookcase out of our bedroom and it looks less cluttered and more peaceful now. I'm striving towards a peaceful setting for the land of nod.
5. Reading all the messages on here and feeling amongst friends
Peaceful dreams tonight everyone

My five pleasures today
1. Having a sleep in until 8:30 am my DH and DD happily watching tv downstairs.
2. My DD broke out in chicken pox -finally - I am sorry for her, but so relieved it wasn't last week when we were away on our very precious annual holiday.
3.Going to Tescos to get some basic stuff and skimming past the crowds and out again with just one bag of shopping
4. Creating fun stuff out of cardboard with my DD and the help of her Charlie and Lola magazine
5. Playing a new board game, with my DD and DH and all having fun0 -
My pleasures today
- Sleeping in until 0930 with DS whilst DD and DH played downstairs
- Waking up to the smell of HM bread from my BM
- Using my miracle cloths to clean the bathroom and noticing the result was easily as good as when i used expensive cleaning products.
- Enjoying HM lasagne for dinner last night and realising that i can cook after all, a relief for my pockets as well as my stomach.
- Finding £2 in my washing machine drum, even though the money was probably DH's i still feel like it's free money and might treat him to a coffee in town tomorrow if he's a good boy

Hi everyone,
Today is the first time I've felt that I've done lots of OS moneysaving so I'm feeling very pleased with myself!
1. Made banana bread with very brown bananas that in the past would have been thrown out.
2. Made a lovely rhubarb crumble (thanks to Pink for pointing me at recipes) with rhubarb that was starting to wilt. It filled me up after dinner and kept me away from chocolate.
3. Had a huge turkey breast from Aldi for €7 (that's cheap for over here) and used a third of it and some veggies that were going off to make a gorgeous curry. I used Patak's balti curry paste and even though it's not very cheap, well worth it cos it's scrummy and I've lots left. (Mineallmine - I was interested that Jamie recommmends this). It made a big dinner for me tonight plus I'd say I'll get 2 more out of the leftovers, might chuck some spuds in to bulk it out a bit more.
4. Diced the rest of the turkey and froze it in portions.
5. Didn't do any shopping as I was busy in the kitchen :j
6. Thanks to another thread on the forum I got inspired to make papier mache piggy banks out of the free local papers that come through the door. I'll use them to start saving change or give away if they're good enough! I've got the first layer on and will probably finish them over the weekend. Was great fun!
7. Made a cute bracelet with beads and elastic.
Hope you all enjoy your Easter weekend.Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!
