You're right shopndrop, those smoke alarms are a definite blessing - they are 'hard-wired' to the mains electricity with battery back-up in case of power failure. When they go off, they immediately generate a call from the property to my 'Warden Call System'. It can be a bit of a nuisance at times, when people over-do the toast at breakfast time or grilled bacon gives off some smoke - I get to know every time those happen ;) - but better safe than sorry! I'd much rather answer 20 false alarms a day than have the risk of anybody being in a real fire and not knowing about it. By the way, well done on your bargains :j and hope you enjoy your weekend.

Great news for your charity, Caterina - it's good to know that there are still some people who can find the money to back a good cause. Well done on your energy levels and the gym membership as well :D.

Well done to your girls, angela - four eggs is a good reward for your attention to them :).

wow - 6 servings of cottage pie from 400gms of minced beef - wtg bella and well done on getting your Easter Cards finished :D.

All the family around the table at the same time - that brings back happy memories, Sunnygirl - been a long time since mine were all at home at once :D.

Reverbe - I've just googled Jo Wood. I'd never heard of her before Caterina and you mentioned her - looks like a lovely website. Of course, I remember the story about her OH and his little Russian friend now! Stupid man!! I'm definately going to check that site out properly - I'd like a really nice present for my sister for her birthday and that looks like the place to get one :D - thank you :T.

    Mine for today:

    1. Actually this is really from yesterday but I'd forgotten to include it - c/h turned OFF yesterday morning :j!

    2. Got feedback from my assignment yesterday - the tutor is happy with what I'd done - exactly what was needed. Assignment No.2 now under way and a face-to-face tutorial next Tuesday afternoon.

    3. Haven't noticed the lack of heating at all :D. In fact the thin duvet can now come off the bed as well leaving just the spring/autumn one - OH complained that the bed felt 'over-heated' last night. (Well his actual words were 'sweaty' - how uncouth !)

    4. After complaining all winter about how disappointed I've been with the cushions on my Ikea suite, today I stripped them right down and realised for the first time, that I'm supposed to occasionally give the feather topping a bit of a pummelling  - they are now back to how they were when we first bought it :D.

    5. A Tenants' Federation meeting today in work plus a freebie lunch :j - sliced meats, salad, potato salad/coleslaw, bread rolls, sausage rolls, pork pies, chicken drumsticks, spicy ribs, assorted cheese board and biscuits, 3 different kinds of gateaux - omg what a spread!!!!! Not surprising these events are well attended . Great 'Equality and Diversity' presentation by a team of 'actors' that generated much lively discussion - some good, some bad!

    6. Called at DD's house on the way back home again - she's managed to get hold of a couple of baby-gates now to make sure that Caitlin doesn't get anywhere near the stairs again :).

Hope you've all had a great OS MoneySaving day :j - nitey nite all - take care  Ollie xxx

Hope everyone is feeling better and able to enjoy the lovely weather that's back with us.

angelavdavis I've veered away from just giving Easter eggs this year too, some months ago I found some prettyy egg-shaped decorated tins in the charity shop and have filled them with mini eggs, a fluffy chick and a little gift appropriate for each of the DGC. The girls have hair bobbles with bunnies on and the boys have erasers in the shape of eggs. Fortunately they're all old enough to know the difference between chocolate and rubber ;)

    Thursday blessings...

    1. Got a new microwave, I wasn't fortunate enough to get the freecycle one but went to Argos and saw one I could afford, then found that it was reduced by £8!

    2. Stopped at the farm shop for pet food on the way home, they had a big stand of hanging basket plants outside at £1 each or 5 for £4. There were some pretty yellow and white ones just right for my sunshine garden, so I bought 10...well, I did save £8 on the microwave

    3. Freecycled a dog bed to a very grateful lady who afterwards emailed to thank me and say 3 of her miniature dachshunds were all curled up in it together...ahhhh!

    4. Spent half an hour brushing the dog, he always pretends not to like it and teeters on the edge of the garden table but as soon as I stop he comes back for more, silly mutt. He looks beautiful when he's done and he knows it, showing off to anyone and everyone who comes within a few of yards of him!

    5. Spent an hour on the edge of my seat watching East Enders and feeling very pleased that one of the characters is going to get his come-uppance in no uncertain terms at long last. Very sad, but even more sad is that my 17 y/o lodger watched it with me and said afterwards that he felt drained at all the emotion!!! We spend a very companionable half hour watching it most evenings it's on, it's nice that a lad of his age to wants to considering he has a television in his room. I must be doing something right :o

An early start tomorrow, the plumber is coming at 8 am so I'm going to have my bath and fall into bed. Night night everyone ((((hugs)))) and sweet dreams

Glad to hear the anti-b's are working for you, i always find them amazing, but unfortunately they do give my tummy awful jip. Thankfully i don't have to take them often and i hope that you don't either :)

    Have a lovely day!
    xxx

scrummy-mummy I know what you mean! I have to take them every time I get a chest infection which is every few weeks but I'm just very grateful there are such things cos they do work almost immediately, so I can live with seeing the inside of the bathroom a bit more often than usual! :o:o

Here are mine for the last day or so...

    1) Having a relaxing evening last night and going to bed at 10 instead of the usual 12
    2) Waking up to the radio (moved my little hifi thing from kitchen to bedroom) so much nicer than the horrible beep of the alarm clock!
    3) My two dds jumping in bed this morning for cuddles before we all got ready
    4) Watching my eldest choose her own clothes for school mufti day and actually choosing wisely (she is growing up so fast)
    5) Knowing that this is my last day at work for a week and looking forward to lots of fun with my dds
    ooo and one more...
    6) Actually having a civil conversation with the ex, he seems to have had an epiphany(sp?) over the last couple of days and realised that its easier to be civil :j

    Have a lovely weekend everyone

Good afternoon :D My five for today are:
    • Helping DH, DS1 & DS2 put the trampoline up now that the weathers better
    • Seeing more of the garden as the shed was moved to make way for the above trampoline ;)
    • Hearing from my Dad that he got on very well at a post stroke aftercare appointment & is recovering well :T
    • Helping Mum & Dad plan some holidays in the caravan. We've picked out a few holiday sites that have bird watching & nature reserves nearby so they'll both love that
    • Listening to DS2 & DS3 talking in the garden at the moment about who is going to have the first bounce when the net thingy is up :rotfl:
I hope that everyone has a great weekend and that the lovely weather continues.

An early post today cos the forum will be down later  (and I'm cheating by including some upcoming events :p)

    Friday blessings...

    1. Spend a leisurely morning doing the bare essentials of housework, then in the garden to potter for a couple of hours. Anyone would think I have an acre or more considering the time I spend out there, when in fact it's only about 25' long x 18' wide, but doing a little then sitting with a cuppa to admire my handiwork and think about the next step is my favourite type of gardening :o. Truth is I'm no great shakes as a gardener, I just love an excuse to be out of doors in this beautiful weather.

    2. The declutter continues, sorted out the stationery drawers (again, I really don't know who makes all the mess in there ) and threw/gave away lots of things I haven't used for a year or more. I've decided if I haven't used something for a year it has to go, difficult with some things but I feel better for it when it's done. DNeighbours DD has benefitted from tubes of glitter, felt pens and scrap paper.

    3. Received a letter confirming the booking for DM's and my break in Camber in June, as part of my birthday present to her. It all seems more real when it's in print like that :)

    4. Knowing the schools have broken up for the Easter hols and all the children in the square will be out and about playing on their bikes and skates/skateboards for the next week or so. I love seeing them out there, mostly getting on well together, but have to admit the rare squabbles they have do make me smile - perhaps because I no longer have LO's so don't have the hassle of them falling out from time to time any more. And knowing that within an hour they'll all be best friends again ;)

    5. Planning a stir-fry, egg-fried rice, spare ribs and lemon chicken for dinner, all made from bits and pieces found in the store cupboard/freezer. Much nicer than the take away, and much more economical :D

Have a fantastic weekend everybody, hope all the poorly's feel better very soon and everybody can enjoy the fine weather.

An early night night, ((((hugs)))) and sweet dreams

    Hi all

A "me" day today! Loads of pleasures, not all very OS but even the treats were "savings" in themselves.

1 - Hairdresser: treated myself to a proper hair colour and highlights, it is much more expensive than my usual homemade henna but the OS part is I went as a model and it costed me £20 instead of £80!

2 - Lunch: smoked salmon sandwich on wholemeal bread and salad. The OS bit is that this was at home, with Wild Atlantic Salmon bought from M&S at 50% off.

3 - Facial treatment at Origins Covent Garden. This was a total OS treat as it was free, from the Woman and Home offer, and came with a nice and lovely Youtopia sample of serum, supposedly able to rejuvenate my face by 87% :T Yeh watch this space, I shall post the photo of me looking 6 years old (this is the remaining 13% of my age that would not get rejuvenated!):rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

4 - Purchases. A bit of madness here because I should be saving money not spending! I saw the Hobbs sale and walked in, of course! Came out with a lovely pair of flat pumps and a polka dot cardi, bright green! The OS bit is the 50% off and also the fact that both items are of very good quality and will last much longer than cheaper items.

5 - Dinner: this is an OS pleasure I am planning. Was going to go out with DH but we decided to stay in and save an outing for when we go away to the Isle of Wight at Easter. So I am planning risotto with mushrooms and truffle cream (which I got for free at the Italian event I attended the other day).

Have a good evening all xxx
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

    3. Tea of Jerk chicken cooked by husband - v tasty and nice to try something new.

    5. Ssuscription magazine arrived through the post.
