Five OS Pleasures in your day today

Hi all
It really looks like a lot of people are unwell, what a pity, the colds and chest infections are doing the rounds it seems! (((((HUGS))))) to all my cold-y and chest-y companions, I am getting better and hope so for all of you too!
Kiwiblue, good news on the removal of your DH's stitches, glad he feels better and hope he gets some rest to recover well and fully.
Olliebeak, sorry for poor Caitlin's headbump, glad she is home and better now.
Broomstick, are you a home-educator? I used to be when mine were little (sent them in school in year 2 - and regretted it later, but by then it was too late - persevere if you can, home-ed it is the best education, I think!).
Anyway, here are my five for the day:
1 - Acupuncture session, I was really down and cried a lot and the therapist and students were ever so kind to me and really looked after me. I feel much better now.
2 - Bought the plunger for the sink, at long last will manage to unblock the back room sink and do some hand-washing laundry there!
3 - Managed to exchange the Boots gift that my OS friend had given to me (which she had got for free) for a value of £4.89 and put the value against DS's omega 3 tablets.
4 - While in Boots doing the above exchange, in front of me at the perfumery till three big loud russian men were spending an absolute fortune in perfume and gadgetry. When they went to pay the total was £155 and I asked them if they had a Vantage card  of course they didn't and they allowed me to take the points from their purchase, a whopping 620 points! RESULT ! YIPPEE!!!:T
5 - DS is making homemade pesto and cooking the dinner tonight.
EDITED TO ADD 6 - I found an offer in the post for two free tickets to a Tate Modern exhibition (Roni Horn) for Independent subscribers - which we are because of their fab offer (6 months delivered plus £100 M&S vouchers for a total cost of £104: NO BRAINER!:rotfl: )
Love to all xxxFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Kiwiblue - good to hear that OH has had his stitches out, bet that feels so much better for him.
Olliebeak – glad to hear that Caitlin is OK
mineallmine, sparer, scousewife and anyone else feeling under the weather - hope you are feeling better today
Reverbe – I have enjoyed reading the Winifred Foley article too, as you say very inspirational- Getting topsoil delivered for my veg patch.
- Managing to move 1 tonne of soil from the driveway to the back garden
- Sun shining again so washing out on the line to dry.
- Arranging to meet up with an old school friend for coffee tomorrow.

Evening all,
Hope today was lovely for you all, we had the sunshine here and it was glorious!
My pleasures for today were:- Playgroup with my DD & DS, DD really loves seeing all her mini friends and it's a lovely opportunity for me to chat to the playgroup leaders, i'm not a christian person myself, but find their attitde towards life very uplifting.
- Handing in two large bags of clutter into the charity shop, to my disgrace some of the items are new or barely worn, but it felt good to let go and i feel like my karmic debt is being reduced.
- An afternoon spent batch cooking chilli, curry and shepherds pies using whoopsied mince meaning that DH and i will have to spend less time cooking and more time chatting (his new job means that he is now out of the house for 12 hours a day rather than the old 9 hours).
- Cuddles with DS and DD on the sofa this afternoon.
- Being able to sit here and share my day with you guys, its lovely to read your updates and helps me feel all the more grateful for everything i have.

Hi everyone
Sparrer I used to live near a tiny village in the South Island called Henley - I guess it was named after the one you lived in. The NZ Henley is near a river and used to flood frequently.
My five for the day.
1. Not very OS but am planning a trip to the city for some retail therapy, need to buy a birthday present for DM, and can see a trip to the local sushi bar for OH and me.
2. Its a beautiful sunny day here, there is a cool breeze, but its one of the glorious autumn days.
3. Finished my project at weaving class - table runner and a couple of place mats.
4. OH is busy cleaning out the hydroponics and getting ready to plant the winter crops.
5. And most important a visit to the surgeon yesterday who said OH is making remarkable progress!
Blessings be

clutterydrawer thank you for the tip, I was wondering how to clean my king sized duvet without spending a fortune at the cleaners...it may not be perfect but at least it will freshen it up. Now to work out how to get a huge, soaking wet duvet downstairs and into the garden to dry
scrummy-mummy aren't those cuddles priceless? My DD and DS are too big to sit and cuddle any more but now I can cuddle with the DGC, especially the youngest who's a wonderfully affectionate little girl
Kiwiblue, just adding my good wishes and gratitude for your excellent news, how wonderful for you both
Hope everybody is feeling better, the anti-b's have done me good already. Only another 5 days of the course so this time next week I'll be running around like a 2 year-old again
Tuesday blessings...
1. Did a mid month shop in Mr A, got lots of YS's including fine beans, mange tout, stir-fry, chestnut mushrooms, creme fraiche and a huge chicken which was jointed and frozen as soon as I got it home. I've downshifted a lot of own brands but can't bring myself to compromise on certain things, Mr B's pickle being one of them. I know that to be fair I should try others but I do love that brand. Im also the same with ketchup, I've tried one or two others in the past but they tasted quite vinegary so I stick with Mr H's now.
2. Had a browse in the charity shop and found a really nice, unusually-shaped, gold and cream framed mirror just right for the spare bedroom, and only £3.99p. Last night I won a brand new white pintuck duvet cover and pillowcase set on ebay for £2.20 + £2.50 p&p - amazing. If I keep on buying pretty things for it I'll be wanting to move in there permanently!
3. Didn't have to cook today as my lodger ate at work, and I had a mug of soup and a salad. Trying to lose some weight before my holiday at the end of April but I also bought some doughnuts today. I've been very good and haven't eaten any though...yet
4. Had a good long chat with DM on the phone this evening and arranged to visit her at Easter for a day. I'd love to stay longer but she can't have dogs in her flat, however we're going away together for a few days in June so will have some quality time then
5. Sat with DN's DD while she went for her jog then stayed for a cuppa and a chat. I'm very blessed with the neighbours on both sides, they're never intrusive but always there. I hope I'm as good a neighbour as they are!
Night night everybody, ((((hugs)))) and sweet dreams

Sparrer - will the dripping duvet fit in a new dustbin bag as far as the line? If it was watertight you could then bump it downstairs and drag it to the door!
Kiwiblue & OH - lovely news, what a star OH is in making such good progress.
Caterina - yes, we have been home-educating for more years than I care to remember! It's been the right decision for us, I think.
Patchwork - thanks for your help on my thread about fabric dyes. I'll let you know how I get on.
My five for Tuesday:
1. A delivery of very reduced price books - all for my work. One, in particular, is very inspiring.
2. My insurance company's garage came and collected the car to fix it. It turns out that the guy who bumped us is also with the same insurers. He hasn't filed a claim and doesn't seem to be contesting anything so it should be very straightforward to sort out and it looks as if they ought to be able to waive the temporary excess charge that I would normally have to pay then get refunded which will save a lot of extra hassle.
3. Really lovely clementines and grapes in today's veggiebox.
4. The children playing in the back garden in bare feet on our new lawn. We haven't had a lawn for so long, they haven't been allowed on it while the turf was taking root and they were really enjoying themselves.
5. Reading our local parish newsletter, especially older people's reminiscences of the Second World War. I'm grateful that there are local people who still bother to still produce, and deliver by hand, a paper newsletter every month.

Hope everybody has a great day - I'm off for a tutorial this afternoon so it's fingers crossed the assignment I've already completed is what the tutor has in mind. Might get it back graded E and told to redo it
