I've been immersed in what I've been doing and have only just noticed the time
    Waves to new people :hello:

A quick five for Saturday before I go to bed:

    1. Scousewife, sounds like I've had a similar bug, but another day of giving in to it, not going out, snoozing on the sofa, and I suddenly feel much better. I hope you, and anyone else who is poorly, get lots of rest and feel better soon.

    2. Getting the kitchen looking very clean indeed - joint effort with all of us doing bits and pieces. I might be able to face doing lots of cooking on Sunday now.

    3. Having some space and peace and quiet to continue decluttering while the children played outside with the others in the street.

    4. Hearing that DS1's friend safely got through an emergency operation this afternoon.

    5. Raiding the store cupboard for some new toiletries (from a pack that I got on a 3 for 2 when present shopping at Christmas - two were the presents I'd gone out to buy anyway so the third was a freebie for us.)

Off to bed. Sweet dreams everyone.

scrummymummy - we all know and understand what OH's are like! They take ages to get used to OSing. Once they realise that they aren't being deprived on a sheer whim and that they too will actually benefit from all the moneysaving - THEN they get on board :D. I just have to rein my OH in from blowing our budget in HomeBargains after I've done all the saving on my part!

I'd like to think that that could be the case, though DH is one of the worst conspicuous (sp?) consumers i have ever met. He's brilliant for searching out the best deal on utilities and insurances etc but terrible for buying endless reams of 'stuff'. No wonder he never had any savings when he met me despite years of reasonable income. Me on the other hand, never got out of "living like a student" in terms of spending, what a pair we make ;)

    2. DGD and I went shopping then thought about lunch in Mackie D's but decided we could do better - we bought 100% steak burgers and fresh rolls and went home to make our own with fried onions and grated cheese. Added some wedges and a side salad and enjoyed it much more :)
Good for you sparrer, sounds much nicer too.

Its really cold here. Brrrrrr! I have lots to do today (like catching up on washing, yesterday my brain was just unavailable and I got nothing done).

    1. Not OS but going for a pub meal (not done for absolutely ages), it gives ideas for presenting meals and meals to do at home, I had a really nice glass for my soft drink, must see what Wilkinsons has got like this, the couple next to us had really nice soup bowls (bulbous shaped).

    2. Trying to do yorkshire puddings (first time ever) - the pleasure was the trying - but they were a disaster, didn't rise, nor cook properly, very doughy and then very burnt! At least I tried. Going to look on here for a recipe.

    3. Reading my books from the library (including Martin's 3 financial lessons). Companies are not my friend! They are there to make money from me.

    4. Making a list of things to do this week (feel overwhelmed but am grouping things together)

    5. Sharing one of the things I got on a BOGOFF with a friend (a big bag of crisps which they took round to their friends to watch the footie last night).

Right off to crack on with washing and a quick 27-fling.
:) Declutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage
:cool2: Cherryprint: "More stuff = more stuff to tidy up!"
Less things. Less stuff. More life.

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend and not too full of colds and coughs (scousewife and broomstick).

Spent yesterday having a bit of a chill day as seem to be really run down with cold lately and sickness on Friday. As as result I feel a lot better and ready to tackle the world again.

    My 5 for yesterday:

    1. Watching Brokeback Mountain - been meaning to for ages and finally got around to it, although it meant going to bed really late as I had recorded it.

    2. Fish and chips for tea from the chippy - not very moneysaving but it was a nice treat and meant no need to cook tea.:D

    3. Clearing my ironing pile - actually it was more like a mountain and had started to take over the spare room completely:eek:. Started off thinking that I would just do and bit and by some miracle seemed to keep going!

    4. Planning a few things to do over the Easter holidays- we're trying not to spend too much and so have planned to go to the cinema (Orange Wednesday), OH to show me and DS how to fish (cost = nothing), visit to Wildlife Park (I will get in free and mileage will be paid as going to take the little boy that I work with), walks on beach with dogs (we are so lucky to have a beach 5 mins away).

    5. Taking time out to finish my book (currently reading the second one in the Twilight series).

Have got a day of finishing of some chores planned so I'm sure will have lots to report later.

PS Olliebeak - would love the recipe for your parsnip and apple soup.

Alba is about 10-12 miles from where I was born.

Ah well next time you go for a holiday, would you bring me back a couple of carrierbagfuls of tartufi then please?;)

Welcome to scrummymummy and I hope that Quasar managed to take up your offer!

I have been awash with cold since yesterday (must have been all those Italian men I chatted up on Friday, maybe one was harbouring a cold :rotfl: ) and feeling quite miserable, but can still find five pleasures for today:

    1 - Long lie-in

2 - Finished reading a soppy romantic novel (making a lot of gagging noises in the end but it was so bad it was good, if you know what I mean  ).

3 - Breakfast in bed courtesy of DH, who has been nursing me lovingly since yesterday, he is really sweet!

4 - Regardless of my cold, at one point I was so fed up of being in bed that I just HAD to get up and go out in the front garden, and managed to plant lots of veg seeds in the raised beds. Feeling worse for wear now but it was worth it.

5 - Mozzarella and tomato sandwich for lunch, lashings of gorgeous organic olive oil.

6 - Interminable cups of hot tea, again courtesy of my superstar darling DH!

Bye all, have a great rest of the day xxx
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

Evening all! and welcome to Scrummymummy - your post made me very broody, DH will be worried!
Kiwiblue, I'm so pleased to hear that your DH is doing well and you are managing to post your pleasures - without being cheesy you truly are an inspiration!

We've been at DPIL this weekend which is always a big pleasure in itself but here are my 5:
    1. Picnicling on the train on friday, much better value than buying horrible station food
    2. Having a very luxurious lie-in on Saturday morning
    3. Seeing the majesty of the sea crashing into the harbour at Tynemouth, it was absolutely freezing but we spent ages mesmerised by it and the beautiful rainbows it created!
    4. Coming home to hot crumpets and tea - blissful
    5. Walking on the beach in the sunshine today, such a contrast to yesterday and warm enough to bring out a crop of freckles on my nose.

and the biggest pleasure of all was seeing my DMIL looking so well, she was diagnosed with breast cancer nearly 2 years ago but luckily she want quickly to the Dr and they caught it early and she is now well on the way to recovery.
She has started doing weight watchers and looks the best I have seen her look in 6 years! I'm so pleased for her and all the family!!

hugs to all and hope you get a good and peaceful night sleep - and don;t forget to put your alarm clocks forward!!
Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it!'
  • Sparrer I love the idea of a sunshine garden, definitely something I am going to copy in the Spring.
Karriebee Thanks for your kind words.

Onto my five for the day.

    1. DH and I are going to the nearest market town today, he is feeling well enough to drive, so we are making the most of the opportunity.

    2. Neighbours are coming around for morning tea, so I plan to bake blackberry muffins for them, just happens to be my favourite kind!

    3. Lots of people in the village turned up to visit with DH yesterday, although it tires him out, he does enjoy it.

    4. Young lad in the village is coming round today to mow the lawns, we have a ride on that is quite beyond me to cope with, so thids is a great solution.

    5. NZ still has an outside chance of winning the cricket, at least I don't think they can lose it!

    Blessings be
    Jennie

Kiwiblue my garden is going to be yellow and white this year, there are so many lovely shades of both that it will be bright and sunny even on dull days

Reverbe our local charity shop sends donations to another town so the local people aren't seen wearing something their neighbour donated - I wonder if that's what happened to your bits and pieces? Mind you we're only a large village so the chances of turning up to a party in someone's last years dress are greater than some places

kaz665 I really miss the coast, we lived one road back from the sea in Sussex and when we moved we couldn't sleep for listening for the waves that were no longer there. In winter we would ride, and walk the dogs, on the beach and in summer I used to love watching the night storms over the sea from our top bedroom. But I'm not complaining, I'm also very happy with where I am today :)

    Sunday blessings...

    1. DGD and I were up at the crack of dawn to have our baths before DS and his future D(step)D arrived. We had the washing on the line and our breakfasts in our tummies by 8am!

    2. DS and - I shall call her FDD for future DD for now - arrived from Lancashire at 9am, DS went off to ref a footie match (yup, he's one of those nasty guys everyone likes to blame for everything the players do wrong, ha ha) while the girls and I played being at the cinema with bottles of pop, popcorn and a DVD. At one point it turned out to be more like watching television as we had to pause the film (break for ad's) to rush outside and rescue the laundry from a shower

    3. DS returned from his match and after a rest we went to an Indian restaurant for my Mothers Day dinner, which would have been last week but I visited my own DM that day. Amazing to see a 7 y/o and a 12 y/o nonchalantly eating curries, albeit mild ones, today. The most adventurous meal out I had as a child was tea and cake in Lyons Corner House! How times change...

    4. Back home the girls both managed a bowl of raspberry ripple ice cream while DS and I sat with enormous tummies too full to squeeze another thing into. Then sadly he had to take FDD back to Lancs as she has school in the morning and DS and his OH are moving into their new home. Fortunately (for me) he's still going to be living with me during the week as his current contract is in this area :D

    5. DGD helped me tidy up before I took her back to her Mummy and Daddy. Once there she made me a lovely cuppa before I had to leave to come home again. She really is such a thoughtful child, her parents must be very proud of her - at least I told them to be :rotfl:

Night night, ((((hugs)))) and sweet dreams everyone

I hope everyone's had a lovely weekend. Here are mine for today...

    1. Two loads of washing which dried on the line super quickly.
    2. Drinking a giant cup of tea with the warm sun on my face.
    3. Finishing painting a big old rocking horse that I've already got a buyer for.
    4. Doing a little bit of tidying/clearing out in the office, one box full in the bin and a big carrier bag full for the charity shop.
    5. Using leftover paint to cheer up my new shed.
