Five OS Pleasures in your day today

A big warm welcome to the new posters.
Yesterday's pleasures:-
1. A visit to a very posh furniture shop with DD where I had
2. A free Buck's Fizz and
3. A constant supply (we were there quite a while) of tasty nibbles.
4. Not patronizing their resturant but eating our lunch in the car.
5. Re-arranging our finances so that we will be able to have some 'happy money' in retirement. Hopefully then we will be able to have the occasional run out in the car (and take a picnic) or use the bus pass and buy a coffee or even a light lunch out. At last I am beginning to look forward to this retirement.

Thank you all for your very kind thoughts and wishes yesterday - they were much appreciated. Tiggy-tiger's final moments were very calm and peaceful (the phrase 'putting to sleep' is so apt) he just lay in our arms looking at us and was very calm. I think we would have hated it if he had started to struggle as it would have meant that he still had fight and energy left. He really hasn't been himself for quite a few months and this has been the kindest thing of all.
I thought some of you may like to see him 'in his prime'.
Thinking of you and your DH, kiwiblue. Hope you can find a little time to come on and let us know how he's doing (((((((to you both)))))).
So glad to hear that your washing machine was easily fixed, broomstick! What would we do without them, eh! I well remember my 6mths without one with two babies in washable nappies, a child in school and a (ex)husband who was a chef!
Welcome to sillyinthepast, atypicalblonde and Bobbykins - so lovely to meet you all and looking forward to reading about the blessings/pleasures in your lives. I've found this thread to be a big inspiration - especially as we're all struggling in one way or another through this recession. When we look for the silver-lining, we can forget that we're in a cloud.
Yesterday's blessings:
1. Having Tiggy-tiger's company for one last evening (Mon) and my DS1 and his g/f visiting to spend time with him.
2. Phone calls from so many friends/family and even my boss - offering me the rest of the day off work!
3. The kindness and understanding of the staff at the vet's - allowing us a few more minutes even though there was a queue of people waiting.
4. Visiting my favourite charity shop (more like a drop-in centre) afterwards for a coffee and meeting a lovely lady from the church that I used to be part of. So pleased that she remembered my name even though haven't seen her for about 15 years.
5. Quick trip to Asda and lots of lovely whoopsies with my name on them - salad, wiltshire ham, scotch eggs and garlic bread for evening meal ALL whoopsied - all the more tasty/enjoyable for being so much cheaper.
6. Phone call from DS1 as I was finishing in Asda, asking where I was. He was just driving through the village centre and suddenly thought of me. He was at the front of the supermarket within 1 minute to give me a lift home - so I didn't even have to pay for a taxi back again (saving of £4.00!).
I'll catch up with everybody's postings properly during the day - hope you all have a great day full of lots of OS moneysaving and blessings.
love from Ollie xxxxx

What a lovely saying - one which I have never heard before - I must try to remember this to keep my spirits up
Hugs to Olliebeak & well done for finding pleasures in your day despite going through a difficult time.
Hugs also to all who may need them
I will post my pleasures for the day later xxxxx0 -

Good afternoon all
Olliebeak, Tiggy-tiger is so beautiful, now he is a beautiful angel-cat and he will watch out for you!
Today I am finding it difficult to motivate myself to work, have been sitting at the computer wasting beautiful sunshine weather and not concluding anything really, so I shall be really quick now and then get down to work.
My pleasures for the day:
1 - Cup of tea in bed courtesy of DH
2 - Lovely walk in the sunshine going to my pattern class
3 - Pattern cutting class, making progress, sleeve block nearly finished!
4 - Usual stint at the Turkish supermarket, got fav yogurt and 3 breads, one seeded for today and two flat seeded for the freezer.
5 - DD and her BF here so not alone in the house. They are lovely and they made me a cup of tea (and let me taste one slice of fried halloumi they were having for lunch!).
Ok, discipline, got to get working now! Have a good evening! xxxFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Olliebeak - thank you so much for posting the photo of your dear friend Tiggy-tiger - he is so handsome. Really pleased for you and him that the pts went as well as it could. Thought about you a lot yesterday afternoon.
Take care and remember all your happy times that you most certainly had with him.
Sparrer - you are blessed with a lovely family but it sounds to me as though your family are blessed with a wonderful Mum and Grandma
Reverbe - Looking forward to reading your post later - wonder what you have been upto today
Welcome to sillyinthepast, atypicalblonde and Bobbykins - more posts to read - yippee!!!
Bellaquidsin - I am sure you will thoroughly enjoy your DH's retirement and it will be the start of another new adventure for you both.
(((((((((hugs for all)))))))))
((((((((huge hugs for kwiblue and kiwiblue's DH))))))))
I will post later

Hello everyone, my first post on this thread, have just been reading and am struck by the lovely friendships and care for each other which is really heartwarming
I'd like to share my pleasures:
1. Enjoying the sunshine streaming through the window at work, wishing I had stuck to my healthy living goals more as now I want to wear summery clothes I've got too large for
2. Looking forward to claiming back the mileage for coming to a different office this week (every little helps), it's good to be with colleagues I don't see that often, even if I am helping pack up for yet another office move....
3. Can't wait to go and pick DD up from nursery and have lots of cuddles, fun and stories tonight. She's a joy to be with and it's more and more magical each day to see her grow up.
4. Have bought my mum what she will hopefully agree is a lovely present for Mother's Day (audio books of classic books)
5. Relishing the thought of baking and cooking goodies for DD's party and visit from my parents this weekend, am going to start with some Twinks hobnobs and a caramelised onion tart and see how I get on from there.0 -
Welcome to sillyinthepast, atypical blonde, Kittikins & Bobbykins. It is great to have more people posting about their pleasures. Makes you think a bit more about the pleasures we each have every day however big or small.
Hope things are going well for kiwiblue and your OH. Wishing him well & you too.
Olliebeak - Really sorry to hear of your loss. Losing a much loved pet must be so devastating.
Mine for yesterday.
1. Walking to a hospital appointment as the weather was so good so saved the cost of fuel and parking.
2. Talking to a young man at the pharmacy who thought he had cancer but had just been told it wasn't and tablets would sort him out. He was telling me how frightened he was as he had a 6 month old baby so was very relieved to find he didn't have cancer.
3.Making a batch of Twinks hobnobs.
4. Making a fruit loaf in my BM and taking some over to mum & dad as they love it too.
5. Mum & dad saying how much they appreciate me cooking some meals for them and also taking over HM bakes.0 -
Hi everyone hope you are all doing ok? I've been thinking about you Ollie & hope that you are finding some comfort in your happy memories.
My 5 for today are:
1. I got half of the big raised bed in the back garden weeded - only backache & the desire to still be out there tomorrow stopped me
2. I took my little portable radio out into the garden with me & enjoyed the time listening to the radio - I'm turning into my Mum gardening whilst listening to Radio 4  :rotfl:
3. Read the paper from cover to cover & even did the crossword over lunchtime.
4. My DH getting up after his days sleep (he does nights) I miss chatting to him when he's not here.
5. My Dad & I chose our investments for our fantasy fund manager game with lots of light hearted joking & banter about my desire to go for the high risk/high gain bonds
A good day that I have enjoyed & felt truly blessed to have such a lovely family & supportive friends on here :A May all of your days be blessed too xxx0 -
Todays:
1. Giving some surplus herbs & veggie seeds to a friend.
2. Pottering in the garden, having a picnic lunch out there in the sun, and
enjoying the heady perfume from our Daphne Odora shrubs.
3. Signing Martin's petition for better transparency on savings accounts.
4. E-mailing all my friends to sign it too. Let's overwhelm No 10 with our
signatures. We frugal types are getting very poor service from the banks!
5. Home alone this evening so indulging in a big bacon buttie for supper.
Feeling too idle to cook anything elaborate and this always hits the spot.0
