hope everyone had a lovely weekend0 -
Hi all
Missed yesterday because I am trying to stay away from the computer on weekends (in vain as you can see here).
Before I post anything else, an apology for not noticing KarrieBee's great news before, hope you will love your new job, well done and many congratulations!
Now for my five of yesterday:
1 - Breakfast in bed, lovely creamy porridge with chopped nuts courtesy of DH
2 - Long lie-in
3 - Walk to shop with friend, cup of tea together and nice chat.
4 - Afternoon with DH to a free talk which we thought would be about compost but was about not wasting food (I could have taught the speaker a thing or two about this!). Talk was excruciatingly boring and she got us to play "games" - CRINGE TIME!!! but the good thing was spending the whole afternoon with DH and then !!!!!ing about the event together and having a laugh.
5 - The other good thing of the boring event was free tea and very nice biscuits and loads of freebies at the end in a canvas shopping bag, including a fridge thermometer, leaflets, book of leftover recipes and other bits and pieces.
My five for today:
1 - I made pancakes at 7am (we were awake very early this morning as we went to sleep earlier last night), filled them with a bit of jam and fresh strawberries and blueberries, and DH said these were the best pancakes he has ever had! :T
2 - Back to sleep after pancakes, nice long lie-in and then a cup of yougurt with fruit and nuts & cup of tea before getting up, courtesy of DH.
3 - What a glorious day! First time in the year that I went out without coat and wearing sandals!
4 - Long walk in the park with DH in the fantastic weather, signs of spring everywhere!
5 - Met with a friend down in Greenwich.
6 - We bought lunch from a stall in Greenwich Market and ate it sitting on a bench along the river.
7 - Gorgeous slice of cake after the "virtuous" veggie lunch.
8 - Free Starbucks coffee for DH, from the Fairtrade booklet
9 - Walking back home, got a call from a friend who was getting rid of a lot of stuff including art books (for DD) and a lovely oak box (for me). Went to pick them up and it was great to see her too!
10 - Back home seeing my winter veg growing well, so I weeded the patch.
11 - DH, who is a precision fanatic, is doing the stir fry (I have to leave the kitchen when he juliennes the carrots, all in identical little stripes, or I would scream! :rotfl: )
I know, loads more than five today but it was such a glorious day! One of these days that makes life absolutely wonderful.
Good night all xxxFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Just found this thread. What a great idea to make you feel better about life and take note of the little things that can mean so much.
So here are my 5 for the day.
1. Having a lie in and being able to choose when to get up in my own time.
2. Being able to cuddle up to my son and 2 cockers on the sofa and read my book whilst in my dressing gown.
3. Raising £35 online sponsorship for Race for Life within a couple of hours of registering.
4. Completing my second run this week without feeling like I was going to collapse at the end.
5. Watching my 2 dogs running and rolling around the field when I took them for a walk with my son.0 -
1. Noting with satisfaction that my buried aluminum foil is keeping the neighbourhood cats from digging in my flower beds. (Yes, it does work. A neighbour back home showed me this years ago, and it never fails.)
2. Serving yesterday's leftovers, making feeding 3 people for 2 days cost 2 quid.
3. Fresh bedding from the outdoor clothesline - and a sunshiny day to boot.
4. Being able to turn off the central heating entirely today until it got dark - did I mention it was a beautiful day?
5. Deciding on this week's grocery budget based on the amount of vastly reduced meat and veg in the freezer: 20 quid between 3 adults.0 -
1. having a day off work today and what a beautiful sunny day
2. Time to 'survey' my garden downstairs to have some idea of what needs doing. Glad to see some green shoots coming up
3. Have a chat with my neighbour over a cup of tea
4. had some leftover for lunch from last night
5. Have a sort through with my savings and bills paperwork and made some progress/plan on what to do0 -
Well, it has been a lovely day. Mine for today are
1) Getting rid of some bags of rubbish from previous occupant of allotment with DH.
2) This is an odd one but ... sorting the above rubbish out at the tip so that everything was in the correct skip/container. I'm really glad our tip was reorganised so that more can be recycled
3) Making some muffins from a recipe posted on the Going Vegan thread on this website. They were really lovely.
4) A drawing by DD that she did for her Art GCSE. I hope we get some of them back
5) Chatting with our neighbour in the street (the one with stripes on his front lawn). We're new round here and he has promised to show us his veg patch some time. I'm sure we can swap tips and seeds0 -
A good day today.
1. Lunch then a cup of tea with HM cake mid afternoon, both whilst sitting in the garden with the sun shining.
2. Above in between digging up part of the lawn to turn it into a veg patch.
3. Heating off today until about 8pm this evening but just for an hour. Been a lovely sunny day here today.
4. Done a meal plan for the week and only need to buy some fresh fruit and veg, everything else is from when I have doubled up in the last few weeks so minimal cooking this week.
5. Had a leisurely bath, needed it after all that digging. Hope I don't ache too much tomorrow.
SunnyGirl - have you got a link for the syrup sponge. Have done a search but can't find the recipe and would love to try this.0 -
Hello all
Lovely to read so many posts today - big hello to all new posters
My 5 for today
1. Sitting on the garden swing this morning having coffee - blue sky and sunshine
2. Eating HM soup in the garden - first time this year we have sat outside to have a meal
3. DH cut the grass - first cut of the year - spring is certainly on the way
4. Seeing the birds carrying twigs to make their nests
5. Hearing the pheasant in the field just as dusk was settling
(((((((hugs to all)))))))))
Night night and God bless
xx0 -
Hello all
Getting up early today as awake and making leek and potato soup, and cooking some beets for pickling
Lovely dinner of ys pork steaks with homegrown salad and an oven cooked sliced potato dish.
Spent nothing today. Gardening and bike riding were the entertainments.
Dug a small potato patch and made some paths around a raised bed, using old roof tiles, bricks and stones.
Garlic in the garden is about 4 cm high now, and broad beans sprouting
Beautiful spring day.0 -
Sunday blessings...
1. Woke up at 7am, opened all the windows, made tea and sat outside in the sunshine (well wrapped up in a warm dressing gown) drinking it, while watching my dog and two cats thoroughly enjoying playing in the garden together.
2. A neighbour across the square gave me a sack of horse manure for the garden. Only problem was I had to collect it from her stables and the sack wasn't tied up, so now the car smells, well...phoooey. Washed the outside and left the inside to air until the 'good country smell' inside goes
3. Being so very thankful that the weather is getting warmer. For the first time since last year I've only had to use the nebuliser once today :j . At risk of being boring about health I've so far lost 3lb since I came out of hospital which will help to make breathing easier. Only another 20lb to go, slowly but surely :rolleyes2
4. Watching a Whoopi Goldberg film, Bogus, this afternoon before having an hour's siesta - then not having to pull the throw over me or waking up feeling chilly, due to the lovely weather
5. Sunday evening phone calls - DM, DS, and friends (including a special one :heartsmil). I love Sundays when I speak with all the people who are most important to me :A
Night night, sweet dreams
