Wonderful news about the job, Karriebee - hope you enjoy working there :).

Sorry to hear about your beautiful, canine friend, Sunnygirl - I'm another who had a golden labrador many years ago. They are such wonderful, gentle, loyal and funny creatures and deserve their final moments to be as dignified and painfree as possible.

Good to see you back posting again, Reverbe :hello:.

Not that many blessings for yesterday - it turned out to be one of THOSE days!

    1. Remembered to take a ham shank out of the freezer to cook overnight and also to put some 'soup & broth mix' to soak in advance.

    2. Having one of my elderly ladies take pity on me in the afternoon after my Line Manager had me waiting for over an hour in the rain in the wrong place!

    3. Got back home again and decided to be 're-active' instead of 'pro-active' in my work methods for a couple of hours in order to get completely dried out again.

    4. While being 're-active', I used the time to try out a new Banana Bread recipe - as I've yet to find one that I completely enjoy. I love the idea of Banana Bread, it's just that I find they never quite come up to the mark - maybe it's just me!

    5. Enjoying watching Martin on TV last night, doing his 'double down-shift challenge'. Amazing isn't it that nearly all 'value brands' work brilliantly, but the manufacturers STILL can't 'get it quite right' with breakfast cereals - apart from value porridge oats, that is!

    6. Remembered to put that ham shank in the SC overnight. Also remembered to peel and prep the veggies for my 'shank scouse' BEFORE I went to bed last night. This morning I've taken the shank out of the SC, removed two-thirds of the cooking liquor, sorted (removed the fat/skin) from the shank and put some meat to one side. Put the veggies, rinsed soup and broth mix plus most of the meat back in the SC with some potatoes and that's the evening meal on its way now :D.

    7. Going to get a 2nd cup of coffee and some porridge in a minute before getting ready for a trip to the local shopping centre. I bought some new knives last week and need to find out about how to safely get rid of my old ones. The binman suggested taking them to the local police station - so need to make enquiries about that. Will also have a 'forage' around my favourite Charity Shop to see if they've got any bargains lurking around for me :D.

Turned out to be a better list of 'blessings' than I thought :D!

Hope everybody has a lovely OS Saturday - speak later  Olliebeak xxx

Finally managed to get through to my local Police Station to ask about the knives. YES they have a special 'secure bin disposal system' for any unwanted knives - kitchen/craft/basically anything. It's useful to know that - would have been so easy to have just dumped them without thinking into the normal wheelie bin.

    1) had extra long lie in with my OH and the cat, she was sparked out on my chest looking longingly into my eyes! the cat not the OH which is a 'he'!
    2) just had my 34th egg from my ex batt chooks - which is a blessing in itself, but it is the first ever still-warm one!!! its really warm! must have been laid about 30 seconds ago!!
    3) worked out how to do my own wedding make up for my wedding day, saves me a packet and i get to keep the make up till it runs out - feels very decadent!
    4) lovely sunshine!
    5) had a lovely dream about bird watching and seeing beautifully coloured birds - i know it was just a dream but its nice to know my dreams are OS and free to do as well!

    Morning all,

Good to hear news of people getting jobs. My heart goes out to Sunny Girl. With all the animals we've had, there'll be so many 'waiting' to be with us again - it will be like my family and other animals. SG, there's a 3-legged, 1-eyed doggie by the name of lucky waiting for a home. Go find em!:A

    To business:
    1. Cuddling black cat this morning, her thanking me by dunking her tail in my drink
    2. Having a cathartic cry and realising how much I miss my mum :o
    3. Doing the meal plan for the week (the thread on MSE is great for different ideas )
    4. Seeing a forgotten daff bulb emerge with a new flower...ahhhh
    5. Doing better with shopping spending - now mixing supermarket buys with butchers and grocers (cabbage supermarket = size of a pea, local grocers = size of a cabbage  )

    Where is ampersand?
:) Declutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage

    Happy Saturday all!
Sunny Girl i'm sorry sorry to hear about your beloved dog. You did the kindest thing and it is great you can remember all those happy years with her. She must have been very well cared for to make it to such a ripe old age.(((hugs))).

Thank you all so much for your good wishes! That was definitely an extra one of today's blessings!

Really these are yesterdays blessings - as usual I am a day behind!
    1. Having a lovely breakfast of whoopsied smoked salmon and cream cheese on toast with OH.
    2. Getting through the ironing mountain whilst listening to gardeners question time - i felt very OS!
    3. Planning to meet up with DSIL for lunch next week - she has been to Argentina and I can't wait to hear all about it.
    4. Going to an excellent local noodle bar for dinner - only 4.50 each and delicious.
    5. Getting 241 tickets to see Ian Mcmillan at a local lit fest last night - we laughed until we cried, it was a great way to spend a Friday evening!:rotfl:

    Today's blessings:
    1. A lovely walk over the hills to do our shopping, it seems to be a regular thing for us now but it still gives me a thrill that now we live in the 'proper' countryside.
    2. A cuppa and bacon sandwich in the church hall in aid of comic relief - how couldwe refuse!!
    3. Seeing loads of newborn lambs in the fields - quite early this year but it has been mild lately.
    4. Chatting to the man from the local organic farm about his lambing - whilst buying some of his yummy lamb sausages:o that he made specially as i asked for them last week and he didn't have any.
    5. Cuddling up this afternoon with the cat, a cuppa and my veg book to plan in earnest what to start planting next week!

Bigs hugs to all who need or want one. Hope you all have a peaceful and blessed weekend.
Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it!'
  • I'm sorry too, Sunnygirl. (Big Hug) I'm still pining for our cat, and she died a year ago.

My five for the last few days have been

    1) Finding a box in the bottom of our wardrobe containing all my bubble bath, moisturiser etc from my last birthday. I knew I had some more! The trouble is, it was one of the first things to be packed when we were thinking of moving and someone must have shoved it in there amongst all the painting clothes so I didn't find it until yesterday. I'm a happy bunny now, though.

    2) Managing to spend three hours at the allotment digging and planting. Now have all my potatoes, onion, beetroot, beans and cabbage in. I only grow the basic, old-fashioned crops but they were successful last year so I'm hoping this year will be as good.

    3) Going to B&Q this morning with some loft boards we didn't use and getting our money back. To be honest, we just used to stick things in the garage but we got £25 off our final bill. Plus it was 10% off all day, so we were very lucky.

    4) Going for a coffee with OH later. Our 'date'

    5) Tea to be at MILs. It's always good when someone else does the catering and I'm very grateful

My 5 are all rolled into 1 today - one of my DD's spring cleaning her bedroom (never been seen before!!). I can't believe how much 'stuff' has come out of it! And she's even cleaning the windows with water and bicarb which she got out of her stain removal book. She said herself it was a historical moment and to have her inhaler at the ready in case the dust got too much. I tell you it's made my day!!
  • Hi everyone

    My top five:

    1. OH coming back from fishing with some beautiful snapper, so fish and chips for dinner.

    2. Watching the cricket, after a dismal series against India, we finally won a game!

    3. OH has dramatically downsized his wardrobe, bags full of clothes to be dispensed with, and lots of lovely space in the wardrobe.

    4. Beautiful sunny day, but there are definitely signs of Autumn approaching.

    5. Being given a hand embroidered tablecloth that was given to my great, great aunt on her wedding day. It is so beautiful that I know I will never use it, but just having it reminds me of those women of the past and makes me wonder about the lives they lived.

    Blessings be

    Jennie

    Today's pleasures:-

    1. Beautiful spring sunshine.

    2. Coffee and hm scone in the summerhouse with DH. We used to buy it out on a Saturday whilst shopping but to be honest this was much better.

    3. Seeing that most of the seeds I had sown into tubs and tucked into the cold frame have now started to grow.

    4. Spent the afternoon in the garden and sowed a heap more veg and salad seeds.

    5. Pleased to see Reverbe back.

like you mineallmine I'm missing ampersand, I'm sure she's not far away (because she's pressing the thanks button ;) ) and hope she'll feel like posting again soon. Scousewife and Broomstick I hope today has been a better day for both of you. Thank you for the info re knives Olliebeak, it's useful to know where we can dispose of them safely.

    Saturday blessings...

    1. Waking early and hanging the washing out in beautiful sunshine at 7.30am

    2. Pottering in the garden this morning, pruning back the eucalyptus which had almost reached the top of the shed. As long as I keep it no higher it makes a lovely bushy tree, just the right size for my tiny garden. The honeysuckle I thought had died is full of buds, as are the olive tree and gooseberry bush, and the herbs DGD and I planted last year are thriving. I have a rose to plant called Whiskey Mac, which was a drink my dear late step dad used to enjoy...you could say everything in the garden is rosy :)

    3. Had to take everything out of the freezer and rearrange it all so I could get a pack of pork chops in...how comforting to know the freezer is full to overflowing :D

    4. Spent the afternoon watching Riverdance programmes on Sky - I've seen the various shows at the theatre and never tire of watching it

    5. Made lamb and veggie burgers, Oxo wedges and a salad for tea. Very yummy so no leftovers - sorry dog ;)

    Night night everyone, sweet dreams
