    Hi all,

Struggling to find 5 pleasures today - isn't that awful  but here goes:

    1. Having my hair cut, coloured and highlighted by mobile hairdresser friend for £25 for the lot!
    2. Spending time nattering with hairdresser friend whilst colour and highlights 'took'
    3. Waking up to find little Dibley (6 month old kitten asleep on my dressing gown on my bed)
    4. Twins washing and drying up after tea and putting it all away.
    5. Little Dibs now sitting at my feet whilst I type this (he's sooooo sweet!)

    4) Digging out some scraps of pretty material to make a gift for my friend's daughter's second birthday in a fortnights time. (Just have to get organised enough to make them into something.....)
Not sure what you have in mind but how about... making a book bag, or a little toiletries bag
:) Declutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage

    (from yesterday and today)

    1) My mum handed me 3 "rotten" bananas to put in the bin. I said "are you kidding me? Thats the best way to cook with them! I'll take them home.

    2) Spotting a honey jar my mum put in the bin and asking why she didnt empty it . There was at least 3 tbsps left! I said "Did my great granda not teach you anything?"

    3) Trying to make pancakes for everyone and failing miserable (damn your recipe Delia. ) Still, at least I tried

    4) Stretching a tin of tuna out for two lunches (used to be one, i love tuna). Bulked it up with grated carrot, defrosted sweetcorn, walnuts, onion, and pepper - with the bad bit cut out

    5) Attempting to make bread rolls with the BM. Im so excited and starving but im waiting on their last rise (proving is that called?) BREAD ROLLS GORGEOUS! WOO HOO!

    Greetings to all

Congratulations, thriftlady on 'Thread of the Week' and many thanks for starting it with your original post :D.

Been a long, busy day in work today. But here goes:

    1. Visit from DS2 with dgs3 (6mths) at lunchtime - for once dgs3 did NOT puke on me :D. DS2 had brought their own home-made baby food with them. He's now in the habit of preparing and freezing all the food for dgs3 :D.

    2. Visit from DS1 while DS2 was here - not often we get the two of them together so it was a particular pleasure .

    3. Had to go to a meeting this afternoon but managed to call on DD on the way home. Had a good girlie chat while there were no kids around (all at the child care facility). She appears to be getting herself 'sorted out' now and has almost reached the bottom of her laundry basket ;)! Going to spend some time with her on Saturday while the kids go to their dad :D.

    4. Went to collect the dgk's from Child Care - got a wonderful welcome from them. Lots of (((((big hugs))))) from dgd1(10) and dgs1(7) and 'snotty kisses' from Caitlin (16mths).

    5. Coming home, I visited one of my elderly ladies. She had one of her daughters with her (hasn't visited for nearly a year) - then the other one arrived bringing the ladies youngest brother for a visit (he's over from Ireland and she hadn't seen him for many years). The sheer delight on the face of this lady, who doesn't normally get visitors, just made me want to cry . It made me realise how really fortunate I am to be able to see my own kids as much as I do :o.

    6. Grilled sausages, fried onion mash and mushrooms for evening meal tonight - went down a treat with OH for once - normally complains about having sausages . These were delicious - outdoor reared pork sausages from Asda - £1 for 6 thick ones. Good job he enjoyed them cos there's another pack in the freezer - I wasn't leaving them on the shelf at that price!

Hope you all have a good sleep - nitey nite  love Ollie xxx

    Hello again!

Bella - ITV catch-up (not as good as iplayer imho but still useful) http://www.itv.com/catchup/ and C4 catch-up http://www.channel4.com/watch_online/

Ampersand - we do freecycle and give stuff to our really good furniture recycling project too, but this chest of drawers was too far gone to give away or even find an alternative use for (large quantities of crumbling mdf that we'd glued together over the years and broken drawers with runners that didn't). I hate putting stuff into landfill but it didn't feel as if we had much choice.

Anyway, my five pleasures for Wednesday :D :

    1. Teaching DS2 to polish leather shoes with proper polish, brushes and dusters not just the instant scuff cover stuff. Since we home-educate, my two don't tend to have to dress up that much and usually manage with trainers and wellies, or fabric walking boots, especially now that they are teenagers and are growing at a rate of knots so we can't afford expensive footwear. We realised that polishing shoes properly was a skill we'd managed to overlook and DS2 had great fun discovering how to do it.

    2. Finding out that a post I'd put onto Freebies about a free calendar website had made it into Angela's section of the newsletter this week.

    3. Going through some old herb and salad seeds we were given and discovering that we have lots with still unopened foil packets. We've decided to get as much as possible planted in trays on the windowsills so that, if any don't germinate, we will still have plenty of time to start again with fresh ones.

    4. Sitting in the car waiting for DS1 to finish a class this evening and playing some rather good strategic board games with DS2. We have a book of them so all we need to do is add counters - it's very easy to keep these in the car.

    5. Putting another £4 into the Christmas 'sealed pot'.

    Sleep well.
  • Thanks for that Broomstick, I will be able to broaden my 'watching' repertoire now.

I'm off now to start looking for today's pleasures.

    Bella.

    Catching up:
    1. Making the most of the mild weather to get out into the garden and do some long overdue clearing up jobs. Good to look out of the window and see a nice tidy
    garden again.
    2. Finding two frogs out from hibernation. Spring is coming!
    3. Still picking and eating leeks and greens from the veggie patch.
    4. Enjoying some funny joke e-mails from various friends - it's good to have
something to smile about in these gloomy times.
    5. Community lunch today to look forward to. Heartening that so many people
are still giving up their time and talents to help the communities in which they
live - a reassuring antidote to the daily reports about all the city whizz kids lining
    their own pockets.

Good morning everyone I hope that you're all having a good day with blessings in it somewhere?

    My 5 for yesterday:
    1. Drying 3 beds worth of bedding outside - the other 2 are out on the line now ;)
    2. Planning what going into the garden this summer with youngest ds, we fancy trying tomatoes & cut & come again salad leaves this year along with all the usual bedding plants.
    3. Laughing with my Mum & Dad when I visited yesterday :A
    4. Getting an hour to sit & do some cross stitching without interruption ;)
    5. DD telling me that our house is 'a very nurturing environment' - she's doing child care at college & says that she's realising how good her home life has been over the years :rotfl:
    6. Watching Desperate Housewives last night & thouroughly enjoying it even though it's trashy lol!!

Hello to you all. How is your Dad now he is home Sunnygirl? Hope he is coming on ok. Has anyone heard from Sparrer - I know she had a chest infection and it's so unusual for her not to post. I love all your posts and they do give encouragement and enthusiasm to get on with things. Saying that I had better 'get on with things' instead of sitting here all morning - the washing is begging to be pegged out!!! Speak later xx
