  • Yesterday's pleasures:-

    1. Lovely springlike weather again.

    2. Towels dried outdoors.

    3. An unexpected pleasure of a visit from DD at lunchtime to bring me the wool I'm going to knit for DGD.

    4. A turkey drumstick stetching to turkey burgers for two, two salad lunches for me and a sandwich for DH.

    5. Knitting the aforesaid wool whilst watching Lark Rise to Candleford on iplayer, don't think iplayer is very OS but it saves the costs involved in a television.

    Hello mineallmine -

I'm sure kiwiblue would riffle through the Edmonds Book, but as mine's still open[p. 124[1980 17th printing,1977 Centennial Edn. one of 5 Edmonds in my shelves]:

    125gms/ 4oz flour
    1/8 tsp salt
    1tsp Edmonds(or any) Baking Powder
    1 or 2 eggs(always 2, ditto for Yorkshires)
apx 300ml/ half pt milk(it was about 400 ml today)

Sift dry ingredients together; make a well in the centre and drop in eggs, then add milk to make a thin batter. Pour into a jug. Heat a little butter or lard to cover bottom of pan until smoking hot. Cover bottom of pan with batter[swirl it gently until no liquid runs] and cook until browned[means when all liquid is set and little bubbles appear] turn and cook the other side. Sprinkle with sugar and lemon juice and serve at once.
(Instructions are a bit ponderous, but well-meant.)

For first time ever today, I've put all down a funnel into old milk container(as above)to 'shake it all about' - absolutely fine.

    BonAp. comme on dit.

  • Hey guys
Hope you don't mind me joiniing in - a friend on here recommended this thread for some positive thoughts and actions!!

    Today
Walk on beach and find some 'groatie buckies' - local cowrie shell which are supposed to be lucky
    Walk around garden later on
Make pancakes for the kiddies later
    Try and make hobnobs
Phone a pal later on and see how she is.

Hello to you all and waving - been a bit glumsome lately - I live miles from everyone I know with my children - guess sometimes it gets me down!

    Here's mine:

    1. HM butternut squash soup
    2. Being paid a couple of days earlier than expected :D
    3. Finding out I can advertise my competition win camera online for free (£8 to go in the paper!)
    4. The month's meal plan is almost complete and a new GC challenge starts for me - I'm more determined than ever this month (due to car costs)
    5. Planning an evening for friends to come over and planning making all the food (we don't often have people over and I usually revert to bought cakes - not this time!). Just the thought of feeding extra people makes me nervous usually, but for some reason this time it's an exciting challenge :)

:hello: Hello fay - I'm waving back instantly.

That's me, down here, well South of you-and if I went right back to homeland of the Long White Cloud I'd be just about as far South as poss.

I can imagine(and do suspect) that sometimes you tire of the 'Oh you're so lucky, what a wonderful place/Life/marvellous for children' etc.etc

I've not been, but cared enough about 10000 Acres of Sky some years back, to work out where it had been shot and add it to my lengthy to-do preclogpop list. I'm equally sure you feel this a lot/most of the time yourself, but equally, cabin fever and glums strike us all out of the blue.
When one thing hits, others tend to pile in and the day can feel like Implosion Disaster Zone.

BUT, we're all here and it's Martin's birthday - he's SIX - doesn't that just make this whole thing of me blethering to you even now just amazing?

Let's call THAT a result and an old-style new-style pleasure.

Soft hugs - all day long.

    Hi all,

wow, LOADS of posts since my last post!

Sparrer, congratulations and good wishes on the anniversary, great achievement, well done!

Ampersand, thank you very much for the slippers pattern, a friend of mine had given it to me just the same like yours (she has been living with a Kiwi family for a long time in the past so perhaps that's where she got it from!) but I had lost the details. I have tons of leftovers in my yarn stash and I shall start a pair very soon now that I have the pattern back (safely c&p in my documents)!

Here are my five for yesterday and today:

    Monday:

1 - My most prominent must be the gratitude for feeling well again, free of pain and sleeping through the night. I shall never take health for granted again!

2 - HM Pancakes for breakfast. DD pointed out that tomorrow (e.g today as I write) is pancake day and I said that there is no reason for not having pancakes two days running!

3 - More free acupuncture, even if sometimes needles are painful - the therapist put a needle in a point in my leg that burnt and burnt but she said that this is (in her words!) "to replenish the bank account of all the years of stress and overwork", so I let it work even if it was really uncomfortable, but the result was an amazing increase in energy that is still with me! Way to go!

4 - More apple cake made, and it was loved by all family!

5 - DH is very good at taking hm packed lunches, at the end of the month we have run a bit over budget (paid for a bit of gardening work) and I am tightening the expenses. Even if he knows we could draw on savings he does not complain and eats what he is given. He is really great that way, a good old-fashioned rural/mining family Yorkshire upbringing did a good job!

    Today:

1 - On my way to pattern cutting class, the teacher rang and cancelled, but it is not a bad thing because I was going to pay with overdraft. Instead we are starting next Weds (better than Tues for both of us) and so I shall be able to pay her in cash and budget it into the month.

2 - Bought lovely seeded bread, still hot, in Turkish bakery in Lewisham.

3 - Bought a great big bunch of flat leaf parsley in Lewisham market for pennies, which in the supermarket usually costs loads more (and you get less than half the amount!). Lentils dish planned for tonight!

4 - HM Baked bean batch all ready and cooling, waiting to be boxed and frozen.

5 - Email from Book People informed me that my veg gardening book has been sent!

6 - Found a place that sells very reasonably priced topsoil that can also be sold mixed with manure, and free delivery!

7 - Anticipated pleasure: I am going to start working in a minute, but before that I am going to make myself a nice big pot of tea, can't wait!

Have a great day everyone! xxx
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

My 5 for yesterday and some for today as well.

    1. My darling Dad is home from hospital having made a brilliant recovery. Still some physio to go but he'll do much better at home with my Mum & me to pop in whenever they need it :T :A :T

    2. My 4 children all giving me an unprompted hug & kiss good night last night I felt very cherished.

    3. My DH is working nights and is not complaining, not getting very much sleep but is happy to do it 'for the family' I'm lucky.

    4. A walk with the younger dog (the elder one is too stiff to get out much) in the fresh air.

    5. Seeing some crocuses (crocusi?) coming up yesterday reminding me that spring will soon be springing.

    6. Getting a riveting thriller book from the library I didn't turn my light off until 1am last night - I'm usually away with the faries by 11pm :rotfl:

    7. Having such a wonderful site & forum with MSE - Happy Birthday :bdaycake:

Fabulous news SG - thankyou for letting us know.

Caterina - you eat my slippers; I'll knit your cake. C'mon gal - RECIPE, please. I'd love to do a good apple cake.

Yay- have just, finally, done my Car Insce. Not cheapest[don't growl Martin - I did all your stuff and I am a great haggler, too], no cashback(except for a £20, which I pushed to dbl), finally, but shoved hard and had home contents + 20 off + 40 off and National Breakdown top grade but one, thrown in for £116.24, fully Comp = £9.68mthly without penalty for spread payments.
I liked G and several of his particular nicenesses. He tweaked details to help me. I will ALWAYS get through to him, should I need.
He asked how I'd like to be addressed as we spoke.
He seemed to have more on line than some other companies and more room to finesse. He tried to fix my infuriating 3yrs NCB(prev. man died and no records could then be found, nor goodwill sold to other Co etc.etc. It's a Westminster/South Bank investigation office address and just drew a blank some years ago. It still rankles, but but but.) Failing this, he added the b/d deal and bumped it up. I know this is true as I've checked the figs online from 3 different entry points.
Sounded a go-getter in the nicest way; we laughed a lot, he said he loves sales, it gives him a buzz, he likes dealing with older people [ not so rude, more appreciative]and I would say he's good at his job. Asked about his commission -he was open without indiscretion.
Now comes the worst bit ---:o :o:o:o:o:o it's Saga, who had started about £80-110 above early frontrunners.

I am even more officially ancient now:rolleyes: . He hooked onto bus pass jokes and over-rode system to pretend we were newly on phone and starting again - in order to quote on basis of much lower mileage on a new form. I already know some co's systems recognise same caller/computer/insured and don't allow tweaking.

I've learnt a lot about the industry.

Sorry everyone, verbal diarrhoea comes with the 'At last! Done!'
It does feel like a real pleasure, catharsis indeed - think I'll put ancient telly on for Flog It.
