Here's some for me too:
1. Spent time with my sister this weekend - lovely!
2. Had quality time with DD for 4 days as DS was with his Dad
3. Made Twink's hobnobs this morning - lovely!
4. Made leek and potato soup also this morning
and
5. Made fresh bread rolls to go with soup!!Christians Against Poverty - www.capuk.org0 -
My how the year is a-moving along - noticed it was actually daylight when I got up this morning at 6.50am
!
Good to see kiwiblue and reverbe back with us again :j . You're doing really well on the money-finding and freebies, reverbe.
Hope you and OH get some quality time, wmf.
Well done to all of you who have flowers coming into bloom - isn't amazing how such delicate winter/spring flowers survive all those hard frosts.
It's really inspiring to hear how many folks have 'good OS relationships' with friends/neighbours - it definitely friendships/sharing that make the world go around NOT money!
Not a great deal of OS-ing done today here BUT have been having a 'use-it-up-day'.
1. Usual breakfast-time visit from DS1 this morning for a chat, cuppa and toast.
2. Phone call from DD. Been a bit concerned about her recently following her split from OH. We've all been giving her some advice that she didn't want to take, but now she's come to the same conclusion herself - so all's well that ends well :j.
3. Some good news on dgs1's progress at school. He has some learning/emotional problems, but the school are now seeing positive progress. Well done to my darling Nathan :T! For some reason, he's taking a real interest in Ancient History
. Learning about Tutankhamun at the moment - last term it was the Romans! He informed us all that the Romans came from Italy - DD asked me if that was correct . There are times that I'm certain she must have been swapped at birth
!
4. Managed to read a bit more of my book last night - it's taking some time cos I keep falling asleep with the light on, face on book and glasses all 'skewiff' on top of my head . Usually get a dig in the ribs around 4.00am from OH telling me off.
5. Used the last of Saturday's whoopsied ham and roast beef for sandwiches for lunch and evening meal today. Couldn't possibly face a 'real meal' after yesterday's lamb shanks!
6. Phone call from darling god-daughter to invite me to her 18th birthday party. She is such a lovely girl and a credit to her father (my lovely 'baby brother';)) and mother. They have three beautiful daughters but of course this one is a bit special to me.
7. Just about to get some diced turkey out of the freezer for tomorrow's evening meal. Will be turkey, onions, peppers, garlic, mushrooms, paprika, cayenne pepper, tinned toms, mixed herbs served with pasta - might add a tin of mixed beans as well to stretch it a bit further so there could be some left-over for jacket potato fillings - IF I can get to the remnants before OH realises there's some left!
I need an early night tonight - got an early start in the morning. Normally I 'switch on' my Communication System around 7.00am and start work 'proper' at 9.00am. Slightly different tomorrow - but more about that in tomorrow's blessings.
Hope you all have a blissful night's sleep and are rarin' to go in the morning. Nitey night - love and ((((((hugs)))))) from Ollie xx

From the weekend -
1. watched Mama Mia on dvd and sang along to all the songs
2. made an enormous pot of borscht (to use up the red cabbage and beetroot in the veggie box)
3. also made a medium-size pot of pumpkin soup to use up the pumpkin in the veggie box
4. snuggled up on the sofa with the kitty
5. ate too much chocolate0 -
Evening all, just rushing in to maybe slip in ahead of Broomstick again
. Sounds like everybody has had yet another productive day on the blessings front..
Monday blessings
1. Read more than just the first page of the Freebies board for a change and found some things I'd really like, salad seeds, chocolate (naturally) and one or two other bits I've applied for. Fingers crossed..
2. Went to the local supermarket today, it's the only one in the village so has a monopoly on prices - however I found fresh parmesan at half-price, 2 Hovis loaves for the price of one, whoopsied Coxes, yummy my favourite, and a family pack of bananas for 80p, got home and there are 15 in it! Some were baked in loaves this afternoon, others will be split, stuffed with grated chocolate and baked in pancakes rolled in foil tomorrow
3. Remembered tomorrow is Shrove Tuesday so made sure I have enough supplies to keep 2 hard-working, hungry men in pancakes
4. Went to a lovely meeting this evening, celebrated my 4th sobriety birthday :j...which is really tomorrow but the meeting was tonight, so... I had been invited to chair but I've got no voice atm so it was just a friendly, warm, sharing caring, evening with 20+ other like minded people and lots of banana bread. They were probably relieved they didn't have to listen to me for half an hour!
5. Phoned the college to book a cut, colour and highlights with a final year student, the girl apologised that the price has now gone up - to £25! I booked before she said she'd made a mistake
Sleep tight all x0 -
You got there first again Sparrer. Congrats on your 4th sobriety birthday by the way - that's a real achievement!:j
My (very late) five for Monday...
1. Sitting and working in the gym this morning while keeping half an eye on the children's sports coaching again and being loaned the coach's newspaper and getting to read a very interesting article in it about teenage brain development. A pleasant start to the day.
2. Having a big 'ah ha' moment over a writing problem I've been wrestling with. It think I might have cracked it.
3. Witnessing my sons decluttering their stuff without me asking; recycling all sorts of things because we have systems in place; seeing how to mend things rather than automatically throw away and buy new; knowing how to organise themselves, to cook, clean and iron... all that stuff... and thinking that maybe I'm doing something right.:D
4. Getting started on my knitted slipper experiment. They are going to turn out looking ridiculous because you have to knit them huge to allow for the massive shrinkage when you felt them in the wash.
5. Catching up on The Archers on iplayer.
Sweet dreams0 -
Hello all,
First time here! You'll find me a twilight poster so my blessings refer to yesterday.
1. Watching my big old (18) cat Daisy wander to the end of the garden for the first time this year. She's luuurved the sofa this winter!
2. Helped DD plan her summer hols and found a lovely private appt for the same price as some hotels that had had horrendous reviews.
3.DD gave me some Boots £5 off vouchers (no minimum spend can't believe it!), but I need to go and buy my face cream tomorrow cos they expire!
4. Went to Tesco ( have been trying to boycott since Xmas, except for bargains) cos I'd run out of coffee and found my fave Percol coffee on offer at £1.99.
5. Posted some tips for using Freecycle on the OS thread to try and encourage a couple of folk who seemed a bit disheartened.
Night night!0 -
Morning broomstick and bronnie.....oh, your lights have just gone off, and there was I thinking we made a little trio of late night B's(with my other life name).
Now, in disorder -
1. Hearing Dead Ringers now(splendid)and Garrison Keillor with Jean Redpath as guest 3X over weekend, an especially wonderful Burns Night episode - thankyou wonderful DAB7.
2. Special anniversary for me, too, sparrer, though a far cry from yours, for which, praise, warmth, and daily celebration. Thanks for Shrove Tuesday pancake reminder, which I've just gone out and shaken together(trusty Edmunds recipe, kiwiblue-for some reason, I always look it up, though don't need to)in yesterday's emptied 2-litre milk container. It's easy not to bother with such things when alone - I am making efforts to overcome the deeply-embedded-from-childhood self-denial.
3. Seeing red/yellow petals of unfurling tulips at Surgery yesterday morning, then having note from receptionist re: 'smelly box=daphne bholua, we think'', still so fragrant along the health centre path.
4. Lovely pms from mineallmine, pashmina posted. Some good shared things, moments.:T
5. Bus driver stopping for me altho' I was between stops(Oldies day in village PO-hadn't allowed for chat factor)then seeing 5 hares in one field en route to Charity Day. New as I am to Bus Pass, I always have a book with me, but - unless it's night - am not reading because there's too much to see out window, even when it's not a double decker! I'm loving it. Started car for first time since BP[12/2] on Sunday. Drove nowhere - just thought I'd better turn engine over.
Wishing everyone a special day today and broomstick - I used to knit slippers thus, with allsorts of ends of wool[it's an old kiwi standard as I'm sure kiwiblue will attest:D ]:
First, put your strands together - as thick/many as you like to remain workable. I suggest enough to equal a bulky/triple knit max.
Cast on 20 or 23 or 26 stitches on needles to cope. Again you decide what's workable - about pencil thickness is max. for me.
The first row goes like this:
Knit 6 or 7 or 8 / purl 1 / knit 6 or 7 or 8 / purl 1 / knit the final 6 or 7 or 8.
This sets the shape from heel along foot, the purl stitches make a natural upward 'fold' for each side of the slipper.
MAINTAIN THIS till half-way(or a little further) along foot.
Now, complete slipper in knit 1/purl 1 rib to required foot length.
Leave about 18"/45cms wool at end of row.
Using hairclip/tapestry needle/what-have-you, thread this back through all the stitches, slipping them off needle.
Draw this up tight and secure it back through 1st stitch. This makes the peep-toe of your slipper. Continuing with this same threaded needle, stitch both rib edges together, thus closing the top of the slipper(not too far, leave room for your foot to go in!)
Now form the heel by stitching a T-junction. To do this, hold the cast-on corners together, stitch down a little way, secure, then across between the 2 purl stitch edges. That's your T-junction heel sewn. You can crochet them together with slip-stitches, if you prefer.
These are so experimenty-friendly, everyone can do them.
Pom-pom or whatever you want.
They work brilliantly, are easy-peasy for beginners too, very mse!
