Five OS Pleasures in your day today

Gosh, where does the time go? I love this thread but am struggling at the moment to post and read it.
My 5 os pleasures
1. Went to Lidl on Sunday pm and it was even cheaper than what I remembered. Plus it was empty which was great.
2. Got another £30 in Tesco Clubcard vouchers delivered. We have enough now (£300 between 6 of us) to eat out every night of our holiday in Centerparcs in July. May stay in one night and do a BBQ.
3. Been going to bed early and reading for an hour. Really enjoy that hour all snuggled up with my microwave hottie.
4. Did yoga DVD for first time ever yesterday. Probably psychological but feel a bit more clear headed today and not as stressed.
5. Being a bit more organised and actually planning meals over a 7 day period. Annoys me though that although we both work it is MY job to do shopping, majority of the cooking, child care arrangements etc etc.Money SPENDING Expert0 -
Hi everybody,
I'm still lurking and don't post as much as previously, but I just want to say congratulations to Thriftlady for her thread making the Thread Of The Week.
Well done everybody.:T

I like this thread! - gives me a warm glow reading the posts and thinking of my own 5....
1) My wee girl (nearly 2) playing in the mud for an hour while I dug the garden in preparation for Spring. (its coming... Honest....)
2) Clearing out the spare room and "filing" everything into 4 categories - "Car Boot Sale", "Ebay", "Freecycle", and "Charity Shop".
3) Receiving a lovely email from a Freecycler offering me p.c. speakers - looking forward to getting sound out of my computer again!
4) Digging out some scraps of pretty material to make a gift for my friend's daughter's second birthday in a fortnights time. (Just have to get organised enough to make them into something.....)
5) Planning dinner (always a pleasure, never a chore).
Hope you're all having a good day too.0 -
Caterina - which gives the best results for Apple cake - dessert apples or Bramley cookers? I occasionally end up with lots of apple sauce after doing a Sunday roast pork lunch and wonder whether I could successfully whip in the apple sauce instead of the raw apples?
I am not sure as I am such a beginner in the pudding baking area! Ask me about risotto!:rotfl: But I think that if you put cooking apples you want to add a bit more sugar as they are not so sweet. Also, apple sauce is a bit wetter than apple pieces so you might need more flour. I read it somewhere that if you use apple sauce (or prune sauce) you can reduce the amount of fat you use.
Any good pudding baker here who can reply to this query competently (e.g not, like me, tentatively!) please? Thanks!
Sunnygirl, I am glad to read about your dad's recovery, sorry I missed it in the last page!
Olliebeak, thank you for the cakey patterns, I keep meaning to knit something little and silly, like bananas etc... just for fun, but since I started the never-ending-jumper I have little time for anything else! I have saved the links though, you never know...
Ampersand, I did find some topsoil on Freecycle, and even a place where I can get as much topsoil as I want for free, in a soil salvager place, but because I do not own a car and I need at least 3 tons.cubic metres, this is very difficult! In the end it is more sensible and environmentally friendly to order the lot at once and pay some money than asking someone with the car to ferry me back and forth dozens of times with buckets and bags to the soil salvager!
I do use cinnamon in apple puddings (Mainly in crumbles or compote) but not in this one because cinnamon is very strong and would hide the lovely flavour of lemon rind.
Here are my five for today:
1 - Acupuncture, even in the "strong" points, was not so painful today and I am feeling really energetic after it.
2 - Lunch at our local church, I am going to go to this regular event more often now! Small donation asked, which goes to charity.
3 - Tonight drinks and social meeting with other local people, we are starting a Transition Town in our local area.
4 - Renewed contact with local vicar (who used to be a great friend of mine, then started studying for vicar and got too busy to socialise) to attend a Lent course, all focused on community - really ticks all my boxes, I have wanted to get more involved in the community for a long time.
5 - Planned dinner: lentil and veg sausage casserole with baked potatoes and salad. Nice and easy, to be done before I go out.
Have a lovely evening everybody! xxxFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
- Bagging up all of the small change I have saved
- Drying all of the washing on the line
- Dyeing a faded coat rather than chucking it out
- Planting herbs

you guys are making me scream with laughter (please don't take offence). only just joined the reading from the weekly email, just about as much as i have time for. wish i was as organised/had as much energy as you all.....if i can think of 5 will post but OS is not yet my forte.....working on it!
DH is just "working" on tea so hopefully that will be 1 of the 5!!!
I thought I'd edited this to say I started reading from 2007, hence the laughter....where's my edit? As you see, despite being a member for almost 3 years I'm still a newbie. Mostly down to being a bit of a techno-phobe (see missing edit as proof!).0 -
