  • I've been trying to catch up today after a busy week at work, so here are mine for this weekend.

    - Offering free craft sessions to children at work yesterday...I spent hours drying painted t-shirts with a hairdryer and am achey for it yesterday, but it was worth it to see how happy they all were.
    - Eating sweet potatoes rescued from my parent's fridge (they were going on holiday and it would've all been wasted!!) with HM 3 bean salad for lunch.
    - Using up old (rescued, again) bananas in a banana and walnut cake.
    - Getting a load of washing done and hopefuly drying it without using the tumbledryer
    - HM veggie satay and rice (all rescued food...I had a good week!!) for dinner, followed by a glass of wine and nice long bath
  • New to this whole old style thing...

    But here goes!

    1. Had frozen lentil cottage pie left-overs from lunch. Must have cost pennies to make!

    2. Bought fresh broccoli yesterday - Chopped, portioned and froze it today. Chopped up the stalk and froze seperately. It's a shame to waste it, and it's great in stir frys or thai curry since it retains lots of its crunch!

    3. Using some of the broccoli in a pasta/broccoli/cheese bake. Soaking the pasta now, so it doesn't need so long to cook, and in the same pan as the broccoli so I don't have to cook that as long too, which should also preserve nutrients!

Ok, so it's only 3 things, but I'm new to this!

    1) Getting woopsied cut pineapple and macaroni cheese in mr t

    2) Buying stuff to make twinks hob knobs (fantastic!)

    3) Seeing apple and strawberry flakes for 40 odd pence, and thinking - they could be nice as a frangrance for muffins ?

    4) Making french bread which is nealry finished (although i used plain flour by accident instead of SWB flour. Gorgeous though )

    5) the woman in the corner shop telling me my banana and mars bar muffins were great, and that im a great little baker!

    6) Taking a chicken fillet out of the freezer to make coronation chicken after reading about it on here. MMMMMMM Tomorrows lunch will be amazing. HM bread and corry chicken. I say.

7( Looking at my baking cupboard with pride at knowing what most of it does and that i regularly use it all.

    8) Sllicing up some lemon and putting in water in an uncovered bowl - for 3 mins in the mocrowave. My micro was filthy im ashamed to admit. All the grime came straight off and it smells great!

    9) Learning to take the smell of garlic off your hands, rup your hand on the tap. (dont know if it works though!)

    10) Making a madeira cake in the BM to take into work tomorrow

    11) Making lemon curd for the first time - fingers crossed.

    That's LOADS!
A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

  • HI everyone
Ampersand I haven't read any of Joe Bennets books, but he is very popular here as a comedian and radio commentator. The loquots turned out well, so the jam cupboard is now bursting at the seams.

    My top five.

    1. Going to a friends wedding with DH and watching DGD (5) flowergirl and DGS (2) walking first up the aisle, they took their duties so seriously and wouldn't even smile when we caught their eyes and winked at them!

    2. Friend bringing round a huge bag of peaches from his tree because they were a bit bruised but thought I could do something with them.

    3. Made peach nectar from the above peaches.

4.Another friend arrived with a gift of smoked marlin - yummmmmmmm.

    5. Going into the local forest and picking pine cones with DH, makes me think of the fun of winter, log fire and actually feeling cold, its been so hot here that its great to think of the season to come.

    Blessings be
    Jennie
  • Hi all - good to see you KiwiBlue - I was wondering last week if you and your OH were ok. Glad you are!
My pleasures for this weekend are:
    1. Spending the weekend with my two closest friends in Oxford - we laughed a lot!
    2. Lovely HM veggie curry at my friends house - mmm
    3. Walking around oxford in the perfect sunshine, it was really beautiful
    4. Snuggling up last night with wine, duvets and Juno on DVD - much better than going out drinking (I think we are all getting aged!!)
    5. Coming home to lovely OH and his homemade fish pie
    6. I know this is an extra but seeing how pleased OH and our kitty were to see me!

Off for dinner and a glass of cold white now.
    Blessings all!
    Karrie

Hello everybody - great to read all your postings - really raises the spirits. Not such a pleasant morning here today - grey, overcast and damp. Cleared a little bit this afternoon, but not as nice as yesterday.

    1. Bit of a lie-in this morning - Tiggy-tiger let me stay in bed till around 8.15!
    2. Two loads of laundry done but had to be dried on the airer/radiators racks.
    3. Managed to clear the clutter from under the stairs - all now nicely organised in storage boxes/drawers - most of it was my knitting/sewing stuff :o. Grandkids toys now in one of those BIG boxes with a lid on.
    4. Delicious lunch of lamb shanks, mash (whoopsied organic red pots), carrot&swede and broccoli (all from the freezer).
    5. Not used to such an early lunch and flaked out on the sofa for an hour (or two) afterwards .
    6. Watched 'Dancing on Ice' this evening with OH - he's only just got interested in it :D. Come on Ray, you can do it boy!!!
    7. Just need to go and sort the recycling and rubbish for tomorrow morning's collection - then I can lock up for the night :D.

Hope everybody has a good night's sleep ready for lots of 'money-saving OS' tomorrow :j. Nitey-nite .
