Five OS Pleasures in your day today

Hope all those who are ill are feeling better today. Hugs to all.
Mine for the last few days.
1. Hearing that my friend's mum has not got a return of her breast cancer but consultant pleased she went immediately to get it checked out.
2. Managed to get new kitchen doors and some new wall cupboards from B&Q sale this week, so my dad's new kitchen is costing less than £250 as DH will fit it for him.
3. Still managing to eat from our freezer store, having bought nothing yet this week but I will now need to go and buy some fruit and veg today as we have had to cancel our weekend away in the South West due to the snow. Had not planned on doing any food shopping this week as we were meant to be staying with friends for the weekend.
4. Hearing from our friends on holiday in Australia - just find it really hard to imagine the heat they are having at the moment!
5. My aunt & uncle calling in to see me and eating about half of the cake I had made along with a load of Twinks hobnobs.0 -
I'm still lagging behind a day with my posting, I must be having too much fun.
Here are my pleasures for yesterday.
1. Another day spent indoors away from the cold and the snow, which looks very pretty from where I am.
2. Very thankful for my OS stockpiling which means I don't HAVE to go shopping.
3. Enforced captivity means another NSD:j
4. Catching up on 'housey' things.
5. Kitchen floor looking squeaky clean as I had time to get down on my hands and knees and 'give it the works'.

Here's mine:
1. Finding out the car isn't losing quite as much water as we thought and not overheating - water/coolant dropping to just below minimum but not going any lower (still need to get it looked at though)
2. Being offered an interest free loan from a relative in case we need to get it sorted out. No idea what we would do otherwise
3. HM leek and tatty soup for lunch - my fave - with 4 more portions in the freezer for next week
4. Beef borginoin in the slow cooker for tea, using red wine that has been on the rack for over a year
5. Being short of cash this month (due to needing new tyres on aforementioned car ) but knowing that I have planned all meals and can rely on the peeps on OS to come up with stretching ideas if I need it later in the month.working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
Bella - can you come and scrub my floor please ! It looks disgusting with all the wet footprints from tramping in and out of the garage to bring in needed storecupboard goodies !
Mine:
1. The joy of being able to look out of the window at the snow, watching the grateful birds coming down to feed & knowing we're helping them to survive.
2. Being thankful I don't work in the NHS so I don't have to worry about the "thought police" and can send a prayerful message to a friend who has been diagnosed with cancer.
3. Being spoiled for choice for all the different meals we can produce today from storecupboard without having to go out and brave the sleet.
4. Feeling nice and warm in my various clothing layers, without the heating being switched on.
5. Grateful that our faithful postie has arrived this morning despite a fresh fall of snow.0 -
Oh poor Broomstick and Sparrer, cover up warm and drink lots of hot toddies! Hope you both get better soon, together with any others who are still under the weather.
Broomstick, thanks for mentioning Victorian Farm, I could not watch it yesterday as I had a friend around, but will watch it later on the pc.
Primrose, I have been thinking of feeding the birds but I am afraid that our two cats (as well as all the other cats that prowl around here) would make a meal of the birds, what a pity that would be!
I am better and reducing painkillers almost to one or two a day, so I am feeling a lot more awake at the moment.
So far my five for the day:
1 - Woke up pain-free, did not need a painkiller YIPPEE!
2 - Pilates class, very gentle but still feels like exercise.
3 - Cup of tea in the local cafe with two ladies from the pilates class (they also come to the Over 50s keep-fit and have been wondering where I was - it is good to know that people have been thinking of me!).
4 - HM baked beans on (shop-bought) bread. Because there were only 2 slices bread left I let DD have them and I made mine with the crumbs of yesterday's wholemeal loaf, which I had saved to make breadcrumbs - well that will have to wait now for, won't it? Mixed with baked beans, a bit of water and a bit of olive oil and pepper: really tasty!
5 - Tomorrow is DH's birthday, I am going out now to find him a nice little prezzie (the big one is that on Sunday we are going away overnight to Bath - weather permitting!).
Hope you are all having a good day! Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Hi,
Ok, so it's not 5 things, and do forgive me if this isn't in the right place, but inspired by this thread, I made soup last night out of just half a red pepper, half an onion, 1 carrot, a couple of potatoes and chicken stock, and not only was I pleased to have made such a cheap, old-style meal, but I managed to save some and water it down (with a tiny bit of onion soup mix thrown in so it isn't watery), and voila, ANOTHER meal!
My cooking and thriftiness aren't the best I'm getting there...

Much better today, hope everyone else is ok
Here are mine so far- DD2 e-mailed me her scan showing the baby (her first) at 11 weeks. We're totally thrilled for her as hubby had testicular cancer before they were married (now thankfully in remission). Since then he's been active raising money for cancer research and they both work in researching the diagnosis and treatment of various cancers. It's nice to see them get a break
2. Just finished stacking 2 cu metres of wood and now have enough to last thru til April
3. Went shopping at Tesco, Asda, Argos and Wilkos and saved a fair bit by shopping around. Luckily they are all close together, as are Lidl and Aldi.
4. Have just sorted out seed packets for planting indoors this weekend and managed to get organic compost cheap yesterday
5. Making OH's favourite tonight, cauliflower cheese with bacon0 - DD2 e-mailed me her scan showing the baby (her first) at 11 weeks. Bit of a lurker here but had to share todays......
1. playing scrabble with DS aged 7.
2. Making an elderly neighbours day when I knocked and asked if she was ok and if she needed anything from the shop. I've never knocked before but we have exchanged 'hellos'. She walks with a stick and our pavements are covered in ice and snow. She was overwhelmed and it transpired that her brother had died yesterday. So good timing on my part. Think it left us both with a warm glow!
3. Ringing my mum to check if anyone kind had knocked on her door (she is 100 miles away) Told her my tale of the neighbour and she told me how proud she was of all her children as both my brothers had mentioned to her they had done similar things in the week.
4. Explaining to DS that kindness costs nothing. A valuable lesson he learnt today.
5. Now having some much needed peace and quiet as DS plays next door......we have been cooped up too long together and both needed a break!
Moral of this little tale........Knock on a neighbour, it will make both you and them feel great!LBM 10/08 £12510.74/0 -
1. It snowed
2. I stayed at home because of the snow
3. Spraying rose oil on my storage heater and it making the room smell good and instantly lifting my spirits
4. Defrosting the freezer and discovering I have enough food to last at least a month
5. Figuring out exact cost of my electrical appliances using the theory Watts x Hours/1000 = kwhWe must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret and disappointment0 -
