    1. Sunny this morning so the washing went out, then the sun went in. Later I brought in very damp but beautifully smelling washing.

    2. Sorted out the pantry and 'filed' all the tins in date order. They'll soon get all muddled up again.

    3. Scrubbing the kitchen floor, not much of pleasure doing it but nice when it's done.

    4. Beefburgers for tea and the makings of a cottage pie for tomorrow from the beef we had yesterday :j

    5. The evenings are drawing out. More daylight = more energy - I hope.

Let's see, what are my 5 today:

    1. Getting a roofer round to look at my roof and him saying that not much needs doing.

    2. Getting loads of compliments from friends ref my homemade raisin and cinnamon bread. Now I am the woman who about 2 weeks ago threw the disgusting results of my first 2 attempts with my new breadmaker in the bin! My friend's hubby said it was the best bread he's ever tasted, friend's mum wants me to bake her a loaf, and my friend herself was full of compliments about it. Result!

    3. Phone calls/texts from friends, making me feel special.

    4. Making the world's most shapeless pasty for evening meal, but feeling virtuous because it was all from leftovers.

    5. More delicious homemade hummus for lunch.
Life is not a dress rehearsal.

    This week-end:
    1. Walking into a garden centre I rarely visit after an abortive search for red onion sets and a friendly assistant telling me "We're expecting a delivery next week. Give me your phone number, I'll reserve what you want and phone you when they've arrived". So rare to get such good customer service these days.
    2. Planting the clump of 5 raspberry canes I bought earlier in the week.
    3. Sneaking another narrow strip off the lawn to extend the veggie patch to make room for a row of potatoes.
    4. Doing our Bird Watch count.
    5. Looking forward to our once-yearly treat of Haggis for lunch.

Had to say thank you for the laugh that No 3 gave me. I sneaked a strip
all the way round my back lawn that many times I now have the lot. Yup
no lawn. hate mowing grass anyway and love my veg Am trying to pluck up courage to take the front one but feel it will invite too many comments from my rather snooty neighbour. Go for it , out with lawns and in with veg

Of course - here it is!

    INGREDIENTS
400g chickpeas, from the can, washed and drained.
    50mls/2fl oz olive oil
100g tahini paste (like peanut butter, but made from sesame seeds, quite easy to find, should be in your supermarket)
    50mls/2fl oz water
    2 cloves of crushed garlic
85 mls/3fl oz lemon juice (freshly squeezed is always best)
    Ground black pepper
    METHOD
Put the chickpeas into your blender, and mix until you reach a rough texture.
Put the water and the tahini into a bowl and mix together with a fork until they have a smooth texture.
Now add the crushed garlic and the tahini mixture into the blender with the chickpeas and whizz it through until it's smooth.
Without turning the blender off, add the olive oil and lemon juice, in parts, alternately. The hummus should become smooth and creamy.
Turn off the blender when you are satisfied with the consistency, and season to your taste with the black pepper and salt.
If you prefer your food a bit spicier, then add some paprika, if you want it to look a bit fancy, then garnish with parsley.
Life is not a dress rehearsal.

    Hello all

Not posted for a while. Raggydoll, hope you are ok and thinking of you.

Here's some combined from the last few days...

Dug some bean trenches yesterday afternoon. Really good to be outside doing something that makes me think of spring.

Putting seed potatoes in the garage to chit on Friday.

Making newspaper starter pots to put broad bean seeds in, using a beautiful pot maker that somebody very kindly made for me.

Really noticing that it was lighter coming home from work at 5.15 today.

Lovely dinner with my family of hm veg chilli, baked potatoes, coleslaw, salad followed by melon.
