Wow Sunflower that's a lovely silver lining (if only a small one) to your cloud.

Caterina, I'm sooooo glad you're still with us. Those near misses make us think don't they?

    My pleasures today:-

    1. Going to both Mr. S and Mr. M and scraping them clean of their 'good buys'.

    2. Buying three bags of compost for all the pots of salad and veg I intend to grow this year.

    3. Buying packets of seeds to sprout or shoot which will take care of my salads until my growing kicks off. No more bags of dubious green leaves for which I have had to pay the air fare.

    4. Planting up a pot left over from last year which had in it a conifer, a heather and an ivy and I think there will be some daffodils to come up later. I thought as it had survived the negelect it has received all though last summer it deserved a little tlc. Two polyanthus have transformed it into a lovely pot to welcome spring (and my visitors) at my front door. And all for £1.38:T

    5. All the vegetables are prepared for the visitors I am expecting to dinner tomorrow.:j

Now I'm shattered. Does anyone else find this OS quite exhausting, or is it just me showing my age?

    Bella.

Bit of child-minding today for me!

    1. Laughed at dgd(15mths) trying to chase and catch my cat! Everytime she got anywhere near him, he legged it away. She just can't understand why he isn't interested in having his whiskers and tail pulled! He quickly learned to avoid all the other grandkids when they were at the 'rugrat' stage!
    2. Took dgd shopping to local town centre and had a cuppa and chat in our lovely church charity shop.
    3. Somebody had been in just ahead of us and donated some fabulous toys (fisher-price, leap-frog etc) that even had the batteries in them :D. Getting a great collection for dgk's now :D.
    4. 2 brand new books from the British Heart Foundation shop - good juicey murder stories :D.
    5. Trip to Asda and found some great whoopsie bargains just waiting specially for me to get there :D.
    6. Arrived home to the delicious aroma of my hm Pea and Ham soup in the slow cooker.
    7. Have taken some whoopsied fillet steak out of freezer to slice into strips to go with today's whoopsied stir-fry mixture for lunch tomorrow.
    7. Dgd bathed, into pyjamas and taken back home so her mother only has to give her a warm drink and then beddy-byes.

    Saturday blessings...

    1. DM has changed her mind about our half board Sun hol in June, asked me to change it to self-catered. It's saved £206!!! Goodness, it pays to read the small print, I knew we had to pay for full occupancy even though there's only 2 of us but didn't read we'd have to pay for different accom and meals for 4 people daily  . It's my birthday present to her so what a relief she changed her mind, and the booking office was lovely about it (even they said it was expensive and if we'd booked direct with them it would have been cheaper!) What started out as £38 midweek break almost ended up costing me £244

    2. Pulled out the cooker to clean behind it - oh dear :o . It's all shiny now though :)

    3. Got some bath creme in the post for a free trial, used a little this evening and it's surprisingly nice ;)

    4. Visited friends this evening then went into Tesco (didn't need anything, I just went because it was there!). Picked up a dozen chicken and vegetable stock cubes for 10p a pack and some tins and packets of value products to put by for when things really start to bite.

    5. Was chatting with friends today and thanking the powers that be that we're now senior citizens! Thank goodness we're safe from redundacy, we've been through this before at least a couple of times so know what's ahead and how to plan for it, and we have a regular income that (God willing) can't be reduced or taken away. I never thought I'd appreciate getting older :rotfl:

Hi all, my five for yesterday:

    1. Seeing the sunshine- it was beautiful while it lasted!
    2. Knitting a few more rows of a pattern I had struggled with - and remembering how to do it!
    3. Phone call from extremely busy DS - even though it was only an SOS - am I the only one who feels glad that my family know they can rely on mum in a crisis?
    4. Seeing some snowdrops in a tub - so uplifting.
    5. Feeling grateful that we are able to live - albeit modestly - without the tremendous worry and stress about jobs that so many people are facing at the moment.
  • My 5 for yesterday

    1) Stocking up my freezer
    2) Making a meal plan for a month
    3) Watching my boys enjoy their dinner
    4) Reading my book
    5) Getting all the rugby gear ready to save a mad dash in the morning

    This week-end:
    1. Walking into a garden centre I rarely visit after an abortive search for red onion sets and a friendly assistant telling me "We're expecting a delivery next week. Give me your phone number, I'll reserve what you want and phone you when they've arrived". So rare to get such good customer service these days.
    2. Planting the clump of 5 raspberry canes I bought earlier in the week.
    3. Sneaking another narrow strip off the lawn to extend the veggie patch to make room for a row of potatoes.
    4. Doing our Bird Watch count.
    5. Looking forward to our once-yearly treat of Haggis for lunch.

Primrose, if you have a Wilkinson's near you, they have bags of red onion sets for £1.25. Got mine on Thursday - can't wait to put them in (sits on hands!).

OK, my contribution, as I've not done this for ages.

    1. Toast for breakfast with HM bread and HM strawberry jam
    2. Found a big can to keep my bird seed, mealworms etc. in so now my feathered friends can be happy and I won't have a heap of stuff in the utility room.
    3. Leftovers for dinner (last night's jambalaya, which was delish) so a nice easy day with no cooking.
    4. Had a break for a read with a cat curled up beside me.
    5. Paid the balance on my holiday (OK, totally NOT OS, but much needed and I am very excited to be going soon!)
