Sentinel (AI Scheme) compensation help guide

In my case the Premiums for this Scheme were paid via my TSB Credit Card. In my pre computer days financial records were hard copies, of all appropriate documents, filed in Lever Arch Files. My MO, since the early 90s, has been to convert these records to digital documents. I was able to create a very detailed Spreadsheet to illustrate the expenditure for the pre and post dates of this scheme.
A copy of the Spreadsheet was sent with my AI Claim and eventually received the amount due from the Court Judgement for premiums paid post 14 January 2005.
On the basis of this Judgement it seemed reasonable, to me, that the Premiums paid pre 14 January 2005 should be refunded. My logic suggested although TSB no longer existed, having been acquired by Lloyds Bank, that Lloyds also acquired the 'problems' belonging to TSB.
Having made a claim to Lloyds for the pre 14 January 2005 Premiums I was disappointed to receive a rejection letter. Whilst I was pondering the next move, really not wanting to spend time travelling the 'Ombudsman' route, a cheque for the pre 14 January 2005 Premiums arrived from Lloyds.
Clearly not everyone in that particular Bank works from the same 'crib sheet' but in fairness I have received considerably more than the total cost of the Premiums.
Sincere thanks to MoneySavingExpert for bringing the AI Scheme to my attention in the first place.Regards,

I had a policy with Sentinel. This included insurance for loss of keys as well as for fraudulent use of credit and debit cards.. I have had my compensation reduced to zero because I made a claim for loss of keys which exceeded the premiums I paid. I am just being paid some interest on the premiums. This seems unfair to me The compensation was for being mis-sold the credit card insurance not the insurance for loss of keys.
If I had not made a claim for loss of keys I would now be getting a payout of £174 plus interest. Instead I am just getting some interest. This means that instead of receiving the full cost of replacing my keys (one was an expensive car key), I have effectively received £174 less than the full cost. This seems wrong to me.
Is anyone else in the same situation?0 -
Has anyone had success using the claim form after the deadline date, using the 'exceptional circumstances' rule? Or have any idea of what does and doesn't constitute exceptional circumstances?
Hubby received a letter dated 4th September 2015, but it was sent to our old address. We received it some weeks later, by which time we were dealing with the aftermath of having been broken into (28/08/2015) and our wedding (05/09/2015). And then I fell pregnant and was suffering with morning sickness, followed by bouts of high blood pressure etc, so our minds have been elsewhere.
We're only now just catching up on paperwork and are still going to give it a shot, but wondered what the chances of succeeding, in our circumstances, were?February wins: Theatre tickets0 -
None of those sound like "exceptional circumstances" I'm afraid. Why would being burgled prevent you from posting a letter? Pregnancy wouldn't prevent you filling in a form either.
You're obviously going to try anyway, so expect nothing and you won't be disappointed.0 -
Thanks.
I just found some more detail on the AI Scheme website about exceptional circumstances (in case anyone else views this and has the same query):
If we receive your claim form after the bar date, then we are not able to accept it. We can only do so in exceptional circumstances.
We will only be able to accept a claim form after the bar date if you were out of your usual country of residence for at least four of the seven months between 17 August 2015 and the Bar Date of 18 March 2016; or as a result of death or another certified medical condition in respect of you or a close family member, and as a result of either, it was unreasonable to expect you to submit your claim before the Bar Date.
If you think either situation is relevant to you, you should set this out in writing and provide evidence of the reason. You should also complete and return your claim form, which we will only review if we are satisfied that exceptional circumstances apply to you.
We will write to you to let you know whether exceptional circumstances apply to you. If we are satisfied that exceptional circumstances apply, you must submit your claim form so that it is received by us by 19 September 2016.
So, as you say, we'll expect nothing so if they say no, we won't be disappointed.February wins: Theatre tickets0 -
Received my cheque this morning, but they have charged tax on my interest. Since 6 April I thought interest was to be received tax free. No?0

No, only the interest is taxable.0

Had 2 cheques this week.
First was from Barclaycard for pre 2005 of £350, second was from the scheme for last 11 years and was £390.
I, too, have had tax deducted from the interest on the 2nd amount - as I am no longer a taxpayer (just) I guess I'll need to claim that back at the end of the tax year?
Thanks for all the help on here, I'd not have done it without the templates etc.
I submitted both claims 1 week before the scheme deadline.:mad: :j:D:beer::eek::A:p:rotfl::cool::):(:T0 -
I have received a compensation claim of £355.61 but with an option to accept or dispute. Can anyone advise on this amount of compensation and if it appears fair.0

Cheque for £147.63 arrived out of the blue from Tesco for the pre-2005 period - a nice addition to a similar amount from the post 2005 claim.
