After receiving £275 ish a couple of months ago from my claim against Ai, I was delighted today to receive another cheque from Tesco for almost £75 for my policy pre 2005! Thanks so much without the template on this site would never have got all this back!

AI scheme is deducting money from my compensation for a claim I made in 2014 after the date the worthless cover was removed.
Theyve calculated all my payments from Jan 2005 to date and deducted the claim
I believe I should get a refund of my payments from Jan 2005 until the cover was removed and the claim after that date is irrelevant - any experience?
  • Hi, I'm new here! I have received info about the above scheme. I had to send documents as had a name change. I have confirmation that they received name change info, records updated etc but nothing since. Just rang them and they've said they never received a claim form. Now I am confused as to whether I didn't receive one from them or I did and didn't take a copy.I have no evidence to say I claimed and the scheme has now closed. I don't fall into the 2 categories of exceptional circumstances either to put in a late claim. They are sending a claim form out to me now ...... am I too late anyway to claim (the lady on the phone just kept repeating about exceptional circumstances. Any advice please? Thank you!:(

This would seem to suggest you are too late..

    Thanks.

I just found some more detail on the AI Scheme website about exceptional circumstances (in case anyone else views this and has the same query):

If we receive your claim form after the bar date, then we are not able to accept it. We can only do so in exceptional circumstances.
We will only be able to accept a claim form after the bar date if you were out of your usual country of residence for at least four of the seven months between 17 August 2015 and the Bar Date of 18 March 2016; or as a result of death or another certified medical condition in respect of you or a close family member, and as a result of either, it was unreasonable to expect you to submit your claim before the Bar Date.
If you think either situation is relevant to you, you should set this out in writing and provide evidence of the reason. You should also complete and return your claim form, which we will only review if we are satisfied that exceptional circumstances apply to you.
We will write to you to let you know whether exceptional circumstances apply to you. If we are satisfied that exceptional circumstances apply, you must submit your claim form so that it is received by us by 19 September 2016.

So, as you say, we'll expect nothing so if they say no, we won't be disappointed.

Just an update, should anyone be wondering if there was any leeway on their 'exceptional circumstances' criteria, the answer is no.

    C'est la vie.

As I told you at the time, none of what you hoped would be accepted as "exceptional circumstances" was exceptional

Yes. I remember our conversation. I'm not sure why you felt the need to repeat it.

I only came back on to update the thread, so that others could see that 'giving it shot' anyway was not worth the effort, based on actual experience.

Just to reiterate that when they specify the particular circumstances they mean it.
  • Hi
I've just tried to cash the cheque that I've received and its expired as its just over 6 months old. Is there anything that can be done? They said they won't reissue the cheque :(

    Thanks
