  • Received my cheque this week for £404. Really pleased. Thank you for all of your advice and instructions on how to claim. Reading through some of the posts has now got me wondering about pre-2005. Can someone please explain what this is and what I should be doing? Thank you
  • Have just received a cheque for £108, do I except the first offer?

That's not an offer - that's your compensation as calculated by the AI Scheme. You can raise a dispute within 30 business day of the date on our cheque. Further information about the dispute process is in your outcome letter.

You need to approach the bank or card issuer that sold you your Sentinel product in order to submit a complaint regarding your pre 05 payments. If you're not sure who sold you the product, give the AI Scheme helpline a call.

I currently have a claim with AI for Sentinel from 2005 onwards, which has not been replied to yet. Does anyone know whether I need to wait until after the 18 March deadline to chase a response or whether I should have heard something by now? I returned the claim form on 20 January by recorded delivery. Also, my husband had a Barclaycard a long time prior to 2005 (not sure of the actual year he took it out) so do we need to make a separate claim to AI or to Barclaycard for compensation for the years before 2005? Any advice would be gratefully received.

You should not wait for any "deadline" if you've received no confirmation of your complaint..

For any pre-2005 complaint you need to complain to Barclaycard...
  • Martin thank you for informing the UK re A1 refund. I enquired about my late father and we received a cheque for £200.

    Thank you

There seem to be many unclear how to claim for pre 2005.
I phoned Sentinel but did not get a satisfactory response as to who I had bought 'Credit Card Sentinel' protection from pre 2005.
So I wrote to Barclaycard, Credit Card Sentinel and Nat West at the same time asking if I had bought through them and raising a complaint if I had
Affinion replied 1st (see below), Barclaycard say I didn't buy through them and have passed details to Affinion, no reply from Nat West.

Affinion have been v. good. Not only have they set up the post 2005 scheme they also agreed I bought from them. They have given me a 'goodwill' cheque for pre 2005 but refused to pay interest despite my specific follow up. Instead they have referred me to the Ombudsman. Their reasoning is that "Banks didn't cover losses for fraud pre-2005". I don't believe this and reading the above posts, banks etc seem to have paid the interest for pre 2005 claims. I have cashed the cheque they sent.
Should I go to the Ombudsman about the interest? I don't mind trying and feel I have nothing to lose. But don't want to waste people's time if I am genuinely not entitled.
    Thank you
