I do love how short tempered people are about things like this.

Someone knocks on your door to sell you someone and you just have to say you're not interested. It takes about twenty seconds of your day.
The point people are trying to make is that the cold callers DON'T accept you aren't interested. So if they are selling windows they they go on to try and sell conservatories basically just trying to wear you down. If someone doesn't accept 'I'm not interested' then they get the door closed in their face,

My home is out of bounds for anything of that ilk. I stand by the line that if I need something I will seek it myself. I answer my door in case it's important or I'm needed, which is my prerogative. I don't expect to be sold to and if I am I will respond accordingly and that normally depends on how the person speaks to and treats me.

Anyone who goes in to the line of work where they disturb people should know what to expect. Do people really have to bother people at home to earn a living? It's just I have never bought anything via my doorstep.

Surely the take up can't be big enough to make it worthwhile?

Actually good canvassers can make a lot of money and there is money to be made.
Plus you say about people doing that job to earn a living, well at least they are out working and not sitting at home on the dole!! Which I'm sure would annoy you futher as it does me!

    Yeah agreed.

It's the aggression of these salesmen/chuggers that really grates. Fresh off some customer skills course designed to extract maximum cash from the vulnerable. A mightily dishonest profession.

They don't prey on the vulnerable and it's not like their drug dealers!! So how it is a dishonest profession?!
They are trying to earn a living and provide for their families!!

If people wanted a conservatory or to change gas provider or whatever then they would do it. They don't need a brash cold caller to persuade/convince/harrass them into it. It's sales at the end of the day, and pressure sales as it's very invasive.

Of course they prey on the vulnerable. Many people are weak willed and/or scared of confrontation and agree to all sorts to get people off their property, and these are the sorts of people cold callers love.

You call it 'trying to earn a living' and 'providing for their families' which is true... just like drug dealers. But hey, if your partner can sleep at night knowing he's flogged a few grands worth of guttering to some old granny then so be it. Puts food on your table.

Yes because giving someone a quote for something, like drug dealers, is going to eventuanlly kill someone :) thanks for clarifying that for me.

He does NOT prey on the vulnerable in fact they have a policy whereas if they think someone is vulnerable they must leave them alone it's something called the LAW which they abide by :)

So you would rather he was sitting at home on the dole then? Than out earning money for his family?

It does make me laugh how much people moan about canvassers and actually their not the ones selling anything. They are just offering a quote :)

Trust me I used to do canvassing and you'll never win this argument with me and to be honest getting tired of repeating myself :) lets just all agree to disagree :D

That is an example of one of the things people hate about doorstep sellers. It is the ease with which you tell a lie to deny that you are selling. If there were no selling going on, there would be no need for quotes. The only person fooled by this particular lie is the person telling it.

    Grammar nazi! :laugh::laugh::laugh:

I like chocolatelover93's line. I think, though, that it boils down to a mix of good old British ignorance and SOME unscrupulous canvassers.

Good god, can you PLEASE learn the difference between "there" and "there"? It's really not difficult and will lend credence to your posts.

It's a good job you would never make such a spelling mistake, eh? Particularly when you're trying to correct them yourself!

If you're going to dig up posts from other threads then at least be man enough to note my post explaining how that happened. But then, you wouldn't get your cheap laugh, eh?

Also, in the interests of context, its abundantly clear that the OP has no idea of which "there" to use. There are multiple examples of that in this thread alone.
