It's MY DOORSTEP

The easiest way IME to get rid of the 'house improvements sort' (and the tinkers who offer to tarmac your drive) is to say 'sorry mate it's rented'
You don't see them for dust and they don't come back.
For anyone else I will politely tell them I'm busy and not interested an firmly close (not slam) the door.
They get far worse I am sure and I don't waste my time justifying why I don't want their products.0 -

haha ok.
In all honesty I don't think I'd want to come to your door, but hey ho!0 -
Goodness me since I started this with my meltdown you've all been busy here ! I've been on holiday and come back to 3 pages !
I was fuming that day as I wasn't rude to the bloke , just wanted to get back to cooking the tea & it was him that was in my opinion rude to me .
I really hate people cold calling at the door , when we were first married back in the early 1980s we lived on a Barrett estate of starter houses and we were bombarded with double glazing , kitchens & insurance sellers . It was a blooming nightmare0 -
My home is out of bounds for anything of that ilk. I stand by the line that if I need something I will seek it myself. I answer my door in case it's important or I'm needed, which is my prerogative. I don't expect to be sold to and if I am I will respond accordingly and that normally depends on how the person speaks to and treats me.
Anyone who goes in to the line of work where they disturb people should know what to expect. Do people really have to bother people at home to earn a living? It's just I have never bought anything via my doorstep.
Surely the take up can't be big enough to make it worthwhile?0 -
I used to use the "its rented" line but found they still kept coming back. So I changed it and now explain to them that I don't do business with any company that cold calls. If they argue the point/carry on with their spiel then I reply that all they're doing is ensuring I will never purchase from them or their company.
I know people are saying they're just trying to make a living, but imagine how horrid it would be if every single business model resorted to cold calls to tout for business. Hi, this is the taxi company, would you like a taxi today? Hi, this is the takeaway place, would you like a takeaway? Hi, this is the supermarket, would you like to come and buy your shopping from us?
Now obviously it wouldnt be economical for the above businesses to do so without having a major price hike. And its not the company that pay the price for them having canvassers/cold callers, its the customers.
So you have a business model that costs the customers more and disturbs/inconveniences them in their own homes all in a bid to make the company more money and you want me to do business with a company like that? Eh no thanks. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
Not answering the door or a quick 'No thanks' and closing the door works every time for me.0

What is it with people answering the door?, its not compulsory, I only answer the door if I am expecting someone or a delivery, anyone else isn't welcome.0

Yeah agreed.
It's the aggression of these salesmen/chuggers that really grates. Fresh off some customer skills course designed to extract maximum cash from the vulnerable. A mightily dishonest profession.0
