I have 2 stickers (provided by the police) stating 'Cold callers not welcome'. Salespeople etc continually ignore them and when I politely tell them that I could not possibly purchase anything from someone who is unable to read, the reactions of some are unrepeatable.
I don't open the door, I answer via the window because, many times, if they don't get an answer they come back later.

I knew by posting I would get a lot of negative comments, it's quite funny that people say he should get a "proper job" well actually he does really well at his job.

People say about spending time with their families etc my hubby works 6 days a week until it's dark outside to proviode for HIS family so next time you're horrible to that canvasser on your door just remeber he is just trying to make a living.

I totally understand they can be a pain in the backside and to be completely honest when I get these PPI, acident, loans etc etc ring me up I politely tell them where to shove it.

I must admit some canvassers are not taught to canvass very well and just end up peeing people off. BUT if they're taught right they are good at their job and will not pee people off. If you don't want to talk to them because you're "cooking your tea" or "spending time with your family" then don't answer the door!!

Well how on earth do you know whether it's friend or foe until you answer the door? What a ridiculous thing to say. And what a bloody cheek telling someone they shouldnot open their own front doors.!

But interesting that it seems to be acceptable for you to tell a cold caller to "shove it" but anyone your hubby pesters is expected to be civil to him as he is only doing his job.
  • Anytime the house phone or door goes my missus lets me answer it, purely for the fact I waste no time in telling them no. or for the really persistant ones to @#£% off. Now you may thing I am being rude, and they are only doing their job however. If you phone my house and ask 'who am I speaking too' then expect a dead tone, don't even have the courtesy of knowing MY name when you ring MY PHONE! If you try and stop me in the street and ask me who my breakdown cover/broadband are with. it's with nunya... nunya business.

could rant about this all day. plebs.
  • We are lucky, we only get phone calls, road to dangerous for cold visits. Phone calls I just pickup and listen. Often the phone will go click and off. If its family then I answer, if a cold call they ask my name and give up when met with silence. At least 4 a day and you get bored with speaking to solicitors or Microsoft.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

Well any good canvasser will have ID on him and they normally wear company t-shirts or uniform.

I only tell them to pee off if it is an overseas one. The UK ones I politely tell them that I have been in their position and I know what its like and I wish them luck on their next call because people like others on this thread are rude and there is no need to be.

In fact when you're a canvasser and you get rude people we actually just laugh at you.

I love how this is so controversial, you do what you can to earn a living so why can't other people? I love how it gets peoples backs up it makes me laugh actually!!

But you can't see ID or a company T-shirt until you open the door (unless you're Superman & have X-ray eyes) - which is the point gregg1 made.

I was actually accused of being rude by one of those Indian's who rang me (I'm on the TPS), not to sell me anything but to ask questions.

In the past I've tried everything from 'no thanks' to '**** off' to putting a very small child on, they still call.

So if I've nothing better to do, I speak to them. I've told someone in the past I have no electricity, no gas, no house (live in a tent), he only challenged when I said I didn't have a phone.

The one that accused me of being rude didn't like that I was born in 1874, he was being polite to me so why was I being rude back.

'I'm on the TPS so you shouldn't call me'
'We don't need to abide by that'
'Oh dear, really?! I didn't ask you to call me'
'You don't need to be rude'
'I'm not being rude, I'm wasting your time. I'll continue to waste your time every time you call me uninvited'

He told me he would ring me every day as a result, but he hasn't.

The annoying thing is because they are abroad they don't have to abide by the TPS

Don't answer the door to people you don't know then! Simple as!

    Maybe not 'so simple as'.

Do Specsavers do X-ray vision as well as glasses and hearing aids? :rotfl:
