Does anyone else still use soap instead of shower gel in the shower?

  • I tried gel twenty odd years ago and didn't like it because a dollop runs out by the time you get half way down one leg, so you need another, and then another. No wonder people say it doesn't last long. I've had to use Octenisan quite a bit lately, and I don't like that stuff either.
  • I use soap, but that's mainly because I made kilos of the stuff last year and can't justify buying shower gel now! I don't like the idea of artificial scents or other irritants going on my skin either.

OH suffered from very itchy skin, and the doc told him not to use any soap products, he just uses Simple stuff in the shower.

soap here too. I hate handwash and shower gels with a vengeance. Nasty rip-off stuff. Even take my own soap to hotels nowadays, should have known all those years of keeping hotel soaps would backfire on me!

We use only pure soap from the health food shop. Have you seen the list of chemicals - including carcinogens - in the ingredients in handwash and shower gel?
  • Whilst we're on the subject, we've been majorly sorting the lads' bedroom, now DS3's gone back to Uni, prior to a change about and decorating. I've found about 10 shower gels already of various sorts which were part of Christmas gift sets and my mum usually gets them some as well, so we shouldn't need to buy any for a while!

MIL used to buy our boys a Lynx gift set every year, but they're in their 20's and moved on to more subtly scented toiletries years ago, so they usually end up donated as tombola prizes. She died in July, so it'll be quite sad to not have a Lynx Africa set under the tree this year.

I use one of these* http://m.boots.com/h5/cat_hub?unCountry=uk&path=/en/Soap-Glory™-Shower-Puff_867923/ it stops wastage and lathers the gel up really well. A £1 500ml bottle lasts me well over a month.

*well a version that's come out of a gifted set, I'm not paying that much for one!

I too find bar soaps drying, even the ones that claims to contain moisturiser.

I do use both though, 90% of the time I use shower gel.

I like the scent of wrights coal tar soap.

I keep a wall mounted soap dish by the kitchen sink as I find bar soaps better when washing your hands of grease/fat.
  • Hi op, I was only thinking about this this morning. I prefer to use soap in the shower and ours has no soap dish, so it ends up getting stuck to the top of the mixer tap bit. Also, as there's no proper place to put it, I often drop it and end up struggling to bend over to grab it.

It would be so much easier if there was a soap dish.
I must remember that "Money Saving" is not buying heavily discounted items that I do not need. :hello:

I am always dubious about people who smell strongly of perfume or deodourant - I assume it's to disguise the fact that they rarely wash.

Only in people over a certain age. ;)

I'm what I call a "scent person"; I rarely wear make up but like to smell great. Not strong, just nice.

I tend to wear fairly light scents, since I'm attracted to what I would call a 'fresh, clean' scent; I love the way men (& women) smell after a shower. But I know it's all very personal:I find all perfumes and most eau de parfums very overpowering, but a light cologne somewhere in the nice to turn on range. :D I'm a fan of scents like Jo Malone.

I hate walking through perfume halls in department stores, despite liking myself, my home and my bedding etc to smell nice. They actually give me a headache it's so overpowering and some perfumes make me feel sick.

I'm naturally a shower gel person. But DH uses soap in the shower. I agree it's much cheaper; my favourite shower gel is £16/100ml!
