Can we help you in any way? Feel free to say as much or as little as you want to, or just chat if you like!

    Hi Hele4, pen away!

I can't go to my appointment today as I have no childcare. I haven't seen her for two weeks anyway as she has been on holiday so today and a good time to stop
  • Hi Hele4, just jump in and post what you need to, no need to join in with an existing topic of conversation.

The second post on the very first page explains the suggested thread etiquette.

Morning Hele, as the others have said, just jump in with info if you'd like, or it's absolutely fine to just say you're fed up and could do with a hug. Whatever you're comfortable with right now. We're a very friendly bunch and there's generally somebody around to offer a virtual smile and a biscuit xx.

Am feeling overwhelmed by life this morning. Have quite a lot to get done and instead of just getting on with stuff am having an utter panic and flapping like a headless chicken. None of the things are even that big, complicated or scary - I've just worked myself up into a state (not helped by another v long day and v poor sleep). Someone slap me!

Hmmm... having read another thread I have big doubts about the truthfulness of that. I'd like to reiterate that this is a warm, supportive thread and that anyone is welcome - but please don't take advantage and abuse that welcome with storytelling.

If anyone thinks this comment is inappropriate I can remove it.
  • tea, just pick the most urgent task and start, or if you can't decide, pick one at random, but do start something! That's what I do when faced with a load of stuff to do and feeling mesmerised by it all. Achieving one thing makes me feel I'm making progress, and gets rid of the "oh no! how am I ever going to get all this done!" feeling.

Half day for me today as I have to see the practice nurse at my GP to have my dressings off and stitches out today, though most of the dressings on my neck have fallen off already and one of the stitches randomly fell out onto my lap last night :rotfl:

That reminds me, I'm late posting the etiquette!

So here is the regular repost.....

Here is the suggested THREAD ETIQUETTE. By following this etiquette, all posters, whether new or existing, will feel safe, unpressured and respected..

!!!But first...............please be assured..................................................................******It should be pointed out that if anyone is feeling very distressed or close to a crisis, they do not have to worry about what they are posting, or whether it is a penguin for someone else or not. (See below about penguins). In a crisis situation, just post! We wouldn't want anyone to feel that they couldn't ask for help in case it's a penguin! The penguin thing only applies to a general discussion situation.******

    - This is a thread for support. We have discovered some good friends on here, but we promise always to welcome and include new people, and not to be cliquey.

    - People may make suggestions to help each other, and might even ask if the suggestions were helpful or have been carried out, but we'll really try not to nag each other or put too much pressure on.

    - The normal board rules about sexism, racism, homophobia etc. apply, but if we are careful we should be able to discuss almost anything without breaching board rules - so far we have discussed subjects ranging from child abuse to incontinence!

-If someone thinks that too much pressure is being applied, they can post the trigger word PENGUIN and flag up the fact that they believe there's a potential for someone feeling too nagged to do something. ANYONE could post PENGUIN if they felt there was a danger that suggestions were being enforced too much.

Similarly, if they want to discuss something that might be a trigger for some people, then posting PENGUIN would be a warning that what follows in the whiteout might be a trigger.

    - So, if you think something might be a PENGUIN, please post something like the green bit which follows.

"Possible penguin about.........(type of trigger)" The trigger might be:- child abuse, marital abuse/violence, paranoia, stalkers, death, etc.

Then, when you post, repost the word PENGUIN above the discussion. Then post the penguiny bit in white! And the phrase END OF PENGUIN when you have finished.

It will look like this. You will be able to see the white text if you highlight it or if you quote it, (so please don't 'quote' a post containing a penguin onto the thread!)
    (Harmless example follows here):-
    PENGUIN

This is a penguin. A nasty, crotch biting penguin (CBP).
It isn't really! So you can look
    . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ozGTv0hxhpc[/url]

    END OF PENGUIN

(NB on a tenth-page repost of the etiquette, you can see these penguiny words because they are white against the green 'quote' background. On a normal post, they will be white against white, and so won't be seen on the thread.)

IMPORTANT: It has been ascertained that some posters to this thread have found that there are certain subjects which act as triggers, precipitating a worsening of their condition.
To protect these posters, you are respectfully requested NOT to discuss these subjects on this thread:-

Religion. (Please note: it is recognised that everyone is entitled to their beliefs, and we respect those beliefs. It is only because of the fact that religion does act as a trigger for some posters, that we exclude it from discussion.)
N.B. Please don't even mention the name of the religion.

The afterlife. The reason for this is explained in this thread by one poster, and there will be others for whom this is a trigger.

We ask and thank you for your co-operation in this matter.

    .........:starmod:.....................................................................:starmod:................

!!!So, to reiterate..............******It should be pointed out that if anyone is feeling very distressed or close to a crisis, they do not have to worry about what they are posting, or whether it is a penguin for someone else or not. In a crisis situation, just post! We wouldn't want anyone to feel that they couldn't ask for help in case it's a penguin! The penguin thing only applies to a general discussion situation.******

    - More suggestions please.............We stress that we are suggesting that we AGREE some Thread Etiquette to HELP people who might feel anxious about posting, we are not trying to IMPOSE rules, just relating this to facilitating groups, so that people feel safe and able to participate as fully as they can.

popping in to say thought nobody was judged on here, just because others do not believe her does not make it untrue.would someone really post at 4.30 am to tell a story?

Yes of course they would, people don't just get bored from 9-5.

As I said, I can remove the post if people feel strongly about it. But I also feel strongly that the benefit of this thread shouldn't be abused by people just looking for entertainment.

    Morning squishables,
Just running in to say hello and restock the squish cupboard.
I have had a.........well..........almost a good week......""knocks on wood quickly to avoid jinxing something".

The therapy discussion has been most useful as I understand it all very little and I would like to understand it more as the therapy I have paid for privately over the years has not seemed to help at all. And it is so nice to know that 6 weeks of CBT is not likely to work coz I had that and thought there was something wrong with me that it didn't stick.

Well done MU - money is a tough thing. one baby step at a time!

I am the same as tea and WaS - budgeting and money stuff seems to be a hobby, much to hubbys disgust who won't even look at his bank account. From a young age I was taught to budget and look after money. Actually my sister told me the other day that she thought it was terrible to see me keeping my budget to the penny when I was about 10, deciding what my pocket money could and couldn't be spent on....but I have always been quite grateful for the lesson I was taught at a young age. I actually get quite a kick out of managing to do our weekly food shop for £25 at Aldi lately and was most annoyed this week as had to get vitamin pills that pushed it over £30!

I actually went through my mums cupboards last week (at her request) and showed her what she was buying and wasting every week - bread, ham, eggs, lettuce, tomatoes, vegetables etc and we worked out from the shopping bills that she had wasted over £30 by not eating stuff..........she is always amazed at how low my shopping bill is and wanted to know how I did it and the simple answer is that I plan every meal....and I plan to use up all of what I buy so nothing is wasted.......so If I decide to buy potatoes to go with a meal...........other meals that week will use up the potatoes so they are not wasted. It is half about not wasting the money and half about being environmentally aware for me.

    Waffling on now................

Pyx - I echo ww's comment - you are one of my heroes too!

    Moo - have you applied to consultancies? Even ones not in your area? It might be worth emailing a CV off to them in case they are looking for consultants in your area? {{moosquish}}
