These say there is an inner wedge. Not slippers, but possibly softer than shoes.

or these which seem to have a higher wedge (2.4 inches), from the description.

It may be worth her seeing her GP and explaining the cold toes as they may be able to give advice/medication to boost her circulation. If she hasn't seen anyone for a while it may be worth getting it checked out in case it is causing problems in her toes. That said, I think poor circulation in elderly people is a common problem.
I am finding that medical advice is changing quite quickly now as more research gets done and it is easier to share info on the web, so it may be worth discussing it even if nothing could be done previously.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
Thanks for all the ideas! I am rather giggling at the thought of the shaggy legwarmers or diamante baseball boots for a nonagenarian, but they are certainly ones to be considered.
The chilly toes are merely a result of winter, her feet aren't particularly cold, she just lacks something other than socks to keep her toes warm.Deal with things as they are, not as they should be.0 -
Melly, here are some instructions, they are rather involved though:

Waves_and_Smiles wrote: »MU, I had two pedigree Maine coons and they take surprisingly little care. Unlike other longhaired cats they only need brushing once a week, they have a short hair layer underneath their long one so they rarely get knots. They are VERY dog like and not entirely what you would expect from a typical cat. They don't tend to be lap cats but they are affectionate and gentle, mine would sleep next to me with one paw or their body always touching me. Oddly enough they love water and swimming, they are highly intelligent and can be trained really easily to follow commands when they wish to (mine knew sit, come, out, dinner and shake paw) and often play fetch. Think of a dog in a cat's body although being cats they won't always cooperate, usually when you are trying to show someone how well trained they are so that you look as if you have lost the plot. Then the visitor will leave and they will run through their training perfectly, you can almost hear them laughing.
Mine were harness trained because you have to be careful about letting them out alone, they love everyone and are very stealable. Plus I didn't think it was fair for an ordinary-sized cat to meet one of mine while out and about in case a fight happened. It's a good idea to have a garden fenced off just for them, but even then they can jump ridiculously high. A lot of breeders have an enclosed area in their gardens for them. They also get lonely and a little boisterous if they don't have company, and at their size bored Maine coons can do a fair bit of damage. They are very playful! If you will both be out a lot during the day get two or get another kitty for yours to play with, they adore other cats that live with them. Mine lived with 3 other non-Maine coons and never so much as hissed at them, they are very laid back at all times with those they know. They were very closely bonded with each other and would often be found curled up together with their paws holding onto each other. Two may be better anyway so you can have one each, they tend to bond to one person. They love everyone but choose their special person whom they will follow from room to room and stick to like glue. Our oldest bonded to WaSp and the baby bonded to me.
Do be aware they can be very territorial to non-family cats though and very pack-like at times if you have more than one, like any other cat. My two used to attempt to attack strange cats together and I occasionally had to drag them both off of an innocent kitty that was walking in the front garden, at their size it's worth remembering that ordinary sized cats are at a disadvantage, mine would just bowl them over. I learnt to keep them on very short leashes until we got away from the house, the first time it happened they had a poor cat on its back before I even realised what was happening and I felt awful (kitty was fine). They were completely approachable and very friendly when meeting cats and dogs away from the house but not on what they saw as their territory. Pretty much like any cat really but on a much bigger scale so you need to watch out for smaller kitties! Having said that mine were wonderful with all children, they allowed themselves to be pulled and picked up and went back for more happily purring. Two huge cats on harnesses attract a lot of children and they always loved them and were very gentle.
If you get pedigree ones do ask to see their parents papers and records (a good breeder should give you these anyway) or get a cross to throw some different genes in there. Like a lot of pedigrees they have a weakness and with Maine coons it is their hearts, make sure neither parents have had any kind of heart problems. They shouldn't be bred if so anyway, but sadly you do get dodgy breeders. The breeder I chose turned out to be terrible and one of the kittens almost died of cat flu (her mother had it) within the first week I had her. Needless to say I reported the breeder and she no longer sells. Other than that go for it! They have very loving temperaments, are wonderful, wonderful cats in general, huge fun and not what you would expect!
I just slept for 14 hours. The man upstairs is away so wasn't running water which meant no leaking! I covered the bed in bin bags, then towels, then a duvet and finally had a good, dry sleep. I feel so much better! They d sound like wonderful pets though!

WaS-there should always be an excuse to get a new cuddly toy, Eeyore sounds lovely. Lol i'm lucky with Swain that he loves cuddly toys more than i do! I alays try and go round the charity shops to get him some, he sees it as "rescuing them" :rotfl: maybe WaSP needs to take a trip to the charity shops
Tea-your ex is way out of ine and as horrible as it is to have to give personal information, i'm guessing they need it in order to form a case. You have done all the right things and tbh FOH has brought this on himself. Maybe court might change his thinking and make him move on?
Calley-sorry your lodger seems to be giving you trouble, maybe breaking down what the water/electric is costing might make him be more considerate. Some people are jjust !!!!! though. Tw@tty housemate thinks nithing of putting the washing machine on for 1 tshirt! Personally even though its bills inclusicve i think he's a selfish !!!!!! and taking liberties. Also Firefly is wonderful! I watched it many years ago and was gutted there was no second series (though the film Serenity did explain more things). And Daredevil i watched all of in t6he forst few days it was out!
HB* sorry to hear about the redundancy, it may be difficult for a while but i hope you both find new jobs soon(hugs*

Had the crap guy on with me at work tonight, last time i worked with him he took forever refilling pop and got no other obs done, i;d asked him 3 times if he'd clean something and he ust ignired me and was doing other pointless tasks, that night me and my manager were there an extra 20 mins (unpaid) doing the jobs he hadn;t done. Well tonight i asked my manager if i could do outside, so i restocked all the pop and crisps, cleaned all of outside and inside too, i guess he technically got off easy but i just wanted to get out on time and would rather do it all myself than him do a crap job and me have to redo it. His laziness and attitude has been noticed by other people (including management) so i don't forsee him lasting long term.
Oooh oooh i'm getting my new tattoo tomorrow. The butterfly looks beautiful and can't wait to have it. For me this a very important commitment to recovery and moving forwards. Also it would have been my Nan's birthday today (18th) and one thing i have fond memories is going to a butterfly farm place with my grandparents when i was little (it has the most beautiful butterflies from all over the word and a maize maze too) so seems apt as a memory to them both.

Have fun with the tattoo MU - hope we get to see pics! Sounds like a good move just doing the work yourself, like you say, at least that means you're not hanging around for ages re-doing someone else's shoddy job. These things tend to get noticed anyway so someone will be admiring your initiative and work ethic.0

Re the slippers - 2 inches is a heck of a height if she rolls her ankle. Is it possible she could work down to a lower one? What is the issue that means she has to wear heels? (Sorry to pry - I just want to help
)
We used to have a chap like that at McDonalds when I worked there MU! So annoying! He got out of doing things like Ajaxing by being crap at them so we wouldn't ask again...

Star, her ankle is fixed because of arthritis, she walks as if she were wearing high heels, on her toes. We managed to find a pair of boots that lace up which means one is larger than the other as one ankle is swollen, they have been wonderful. But all that lacing is too much except when she goes out, which is not often. The heel on those boots is 2".
The rest of the time she wears a pair of summer sandals, with a lower heel, as they are the only ones she can get on, but they don't really do the job and she winces as she walks as there is so little support to her foot.
The assumption seems to be that older people want flat shoes. Well, yes, but there are exceptions! Her feet are tiny, not only short but small top to bottom, which is why most shoes are too deep and hurt her ankle bone.
Thanks all for your concern & helpful suggestions - I think the hidden lifts may well be worth looking at.Deal with things as they are, not as they should be.0
