    So sorry to hear, Georgie.

I agree with everyone else, tea. Do not contact FOH, it won't help you and it will give him false hope and everything would be likely to start up again.

Yay for finally getting the music centre collected, Pyxis! When is the new one due?

Life is interesting here. The man who attempted to fix the leak was a handyman not a plumber. The letting agent visited last night and said he is having a problem contacting the landlady to get her to do anything. Not only is she on holiday, after just one year she is selling the properties again! So basically she isn't really caring about repairs and wants to get the flats off her hands as soon as possible.

Soooooo, it depends on who buys the properties whether we are evicted or not once again. Also my benefit review is still due and I could find myself between addresses halfway through it just to complicate things. I have NO money for rent in advance or a deposit so I have no idea what to do there. Obviously if my benefit is refused then I only have £70 odd a week so really don't have any money for it. Plus the ceiling is still dripping because the guy upstairs has somewhat understandably, turned his water back on because he has to live too.

I am honestly not thinking deeply about things because I will make myself go mad and relapse. I think I shall cuddle a toy and colour for a while and stick my head in the sand. At some point I really need to work out an action plan though on what I can control, sooner rather than later.

Oh WaS! This really isn't good enough! A leak into your flat is an emergency and the letting agent HAS to get a plumber to sort it, regardless of where the owner is!

Could one of your friends read the riot act to them for you?

You ask me when the new one is due?
God knows! I'm told 3-5 days by one person, and 7-15 by another.
They've got to get the faulty one back first, though. That could take 2-3 days, apparently.
    Piece of advice:-
Don't anyone ever buy anything from Radio Times Shop or Easylife! :(

  • Oh WaS :( Big hugs. I know the guy above needs water, but it's not on when it's affecting yours and WaSps lives, and destroying your property. A plumber is needed ASAP! She could be on holiday for another week or two at least, and you can't be living like that until then.

Is there somewhere they can leave your music system if you're not in Pyxis? You don't want to be having to wait about for what could be another 2 weeks!

Pyxis - can you ring the Radio Times shop, reject the merchandise as being of unsatisfactory quality, then get your money back? Mr JM could advise you on some budget-appropriate stuff to replace it - he really knows about hi fi stuff and designed and built his own speakers (worth five figures!) at one point. All I know is that Richer Sounds can be excellent for 'bits' (but I don't understand about putting the bits together.)

WaS - don't worry. I am the ultimate cynic about benefits and stuff but your local authority will have the sense to know that if you are not housed appropriately, you will risk costing them a *Lot of Money* as they would have to find you residential care. And they will want to avoid this, and they know you are doing well in the community. There is a thing called something like the Rent Deposit Scheme where they can find you money for a desposit if necessary. Just talk to your care manager/social worker and tell them about this worry. The same goes for your benefits - people in power will be keen to support your application. If the worst comes to the worst and your landlady serves you notice or you lose benefits, I hereby volunteer to help with some advocacy for you (and we can ask Elsien for advice is she is likely to be more of an expert! :D)

    Thanks Georgie and JM.
No, there isn't anywhere to leave the music system that would be under cover. In addition, it needs to be signed for. I'm hoping they will give me a delivery date. Iwill phone them next Wed if I haven't heard anything by then.

JM , I've already told them twice that I'll have a replacement. To be honest, I don't think I can cope with a wrangle about it. I don't have any confidence in them doing anything right anymore, and can see a whole pile of problems arising if I say I now want a refund. (These aren't the only problems I've had with this order......I've a whole list of them).
I'm in wimp mode still, and can't face any potential conflict. Pathetic I know, pathetic, but just thinking about it stresses me out.

But anyway, it's a minor problem compared with poor WaS's Niagara Falls. I feel very angry with the letting agent.:(

  • Not pathetic at all Pyxis. Fingers crossed it gets sent out as soon as they receive the other one back, and that you are in when it arrives!

Just had a laugh at D's expense! The cars are iced up really bad, and when we're in a rush we use water (definitely not boiling or even luke warm) to clear the ice. I know it's not recommended, but touch wood, we haven't had a cracked windscreen yet! Anyhow, he decided to take my car today as the 4x4 isn't nicknamed squeaky for nothing  and he forgot that it has auto windscreen wipers that go off when they detect rain. Well, he came back in screeching like a little girl "get me a towel!" He was soaked top to bottom and it was :rotfl:
  • How annoying, Pyxis! Make sure you complain, you have had awful service.

Thank you to both of you, I am playing with all my wonderful Christmas presents from everyone here. I have decided that I can't be an adult today, it's just too hard so I am playing! You are right JM, it would cost far more to stick me in residential care than it would to sort me out somewhere else to live if it comes to it so the Powers That Be probably would step in. I know I have certain legal protection being registered as a vulnerable adult so they can't forget about me at least.

I shall call the letting agent again on Monday and may possibly point out that I am registered as vulnerable although I hate doing that, I feel like I am saying I am more important than other people which I'm not. The leak is now in a straight line across the bedroom ceiling consisting of several drips which makes the bed unusable and the room is so tiny we have nowhere to move it to. Luckily, I sleep very well on the very comfy sofa so I am fine, poor WaSp is a bit cramped in his chair though. I may just call on Monday and have a meltdown and see if that works.

    Automatic windscreen wipers? Gosh!
Tell you what I'd really like, and that's wipers on the wing mirrors. It annoys me when I can't see them properly due to rain. I can wipe the driver's side one, obviously, but can't reach the near side one even with the car stationary.

WaS does the letting agent not have an emergency number?

It would be a good idea if you could take photos of the drips, and the wet mattress.
Could you at least get the mattress off the bed and up against a radiator, and have you put bowls under the drips?

    ?

Thats a good idea to have wipers on the wing mirrors. They have them on head lights now, so I can't see why they can't have them on wing mirrors.

It's also got auto headlights, which are very handy when you suddenly go from light to dark as in the multistory carpark which isn't that well lit. The garage reset everything when I took it in last, so I'll have to figure out how to reactivate them.

I agree with Pyxis WaS, definitely take some photos. Photographic evidence will help when it comes to insurance claims.

Surely the point of having the letting agent is that they manage things like this for the owner? They should be sorting the plumber asap to repair. Poor WaS and WaSP - so not on.

In the hot tips section - had a funny smell from air con in car recently and remembered reading something about turning it up to full heat and then down to freezing etc to kill bacteria in the air con system as this is what can cause the smells and have just tried it (making sure it went through all the different vents) and it has worked a treat.
