no moo, it is a subject I thought I was relatively good at.
What did SHE director say??!?!?!?! PM me if ness!0 -
lol - oh gees........people actually take my advice?!?!?! ok......do you have any onions? (Why is the mad woman asking us that?!?!?!)
After you have had your "burning" session" -- light candles and place chopped onions around the place to absorb smells!
Do you have anything thick and gloopy? I ask because after a few days of using cleaners on my oven, the scientist in me decided that liquid runny mixtures were only useful for cleaning the bottom, not sides and roof of the oven. There may have been some highly dangerous and toxic mixing of bleach, soda crystals and a thick descaling gel to produce a sticky evil mess that got applied to the oven walls etc. (in my defense I wore a full face mask and thick chemical gloves to account for the stupidity in my intended actions)
And can I just say that - washing powder is awesome - mix some washing powder with water till it is the consistency of toothpaste, add a little bleach and leave that on the oven overnight - bet you will be impressed.......
I often pop all the teaspoons in a mug of boiling water with daz in for 30 minutes - they come out all shiny and new.
Did I not say - I am doing a Masters degree - so unfortunately that "next" level of understanding, processing and producing critical evaluation is exactly what is required. I don't want anyone to think I am being all "dismissive of my own skills" - I know I have a good mind and I don't think I would struggle with another undergrad, but genuinely, maybe postgrad is a bit beyond me. It is a big change and step away from undergrad study - there is no direction, just an idea or concept and you are supposed to run with it. (Of course I am doing a science based postgrad and I don't have a science first degree - so there is A LOT of catch up and backfilling in my knowledge to do which I thought I would have enough time to do)
Can I come and clean your oven? I am having a full day of procrastination - have done hubbys errands, made him lunch, tucked him up on sofa, had a nap, ordered xmas pressies, checked forum and now it is 5pm and I haven't done an ounce of study...............0 -
Please, please come and clean my oven! We have been forced into retreat into the bedroom by the black smoke monster. We have worked out that its the top of a lasange stuck on the element, so a lovely mix of cheese and sauce burnt onto it.
We have onions and washing powder so those shall be the next step if we can ever venture back into the room. It's extremely good that the fire alarm is a heat one and not a smoke one or we might have fireman here (I wonder if they can clean ovens?). I am following your advice to the letter (because I have no idea myself), no pressure!Until one has loved an animal a part of one's soul remains unawakened - Anatole France

Came in to see how Georgie and Mr G are and what happened with phone call - hope all is not too bad.
?
Well, it looks like he'll be out of a job as the aim of the company is for everyone to go to pod based working, and it just isn't feasible for him to travel 5 hours a day. They reckon by going to this pod based working, that everyone will work more efficiently. As if they don't already!
They made it sound like some people would just be made redundant straight away, but no, there's 27 people who got the phone call, and apparently there's 27 jobs for them IF you are in a reasonable distance which D and some of the others aren't. So, they have no choice but to take redundancy and then try and find a new job.
Apparently they'll find out what's happening for sure in 30 days, whether a new job within the same company can be found etc....but again, why keep people dangling? Especially over Christmas
So understandably, we're both feeling really uneasy and restless now. Just feeling sad right now
Thanks all for thinking of us0 -
Ooh Georgie sorry to hear that.
Fly you got email0 -
Oh GG that's a bit rubbish. I know it sounds shockingly trite (and feel free to throw things at me!) but sometimes these things really do work out for the best. Hopefully it turns out to be a fantastic opportunity for you both in the long run. Definitely not what you need hanging over you at Christmas though. (((hugs)))
My boss FINALLY stopped talking (seriously, people were turning the lights out in the building) so now I'm stuck in a noisy hotel all night. Am absolutely dreading tomorrow, have got v scary things to do and on top of that have got to do them in front of my scary SCARY boss. With the fear, the noise, and missing P cat I don't think I'll be getting a lot of sleep tonight0 -
Not at all tea (re sounding trite & the throwing things!), it's nice to read a nice positive attitude and outlook on things, especially at the moment when I'm not feeling that positive. Actually, I will throw something (nice) at you, here have some Haribo tangtastics!
Good luck for tomorrow and hope the v scary things aren't too scary once you're doing themHope you manage to get some sleep so you're nice and refreshed.
Talking about sleep, glad you managed to get some Melly
*throws Haribo tangtastics into the fort*0 -
Awww Georgie, so sorry to hear that. Big hug.
If following redundancy laws correctly, the company should provide a "consultation" period, hence the 30 day thing, so they really are not doing it to make things stressful, but to ensure they are doing things correctly.
It is an opportunity for you and hubby to think about what you need out of the redundancy package - you might ask for CV assistance or for advice from recruitment experts etc - so something worth considering over the weekend.
but yes, all in all, it is sucky, sucky news. Personally, I dunno what others think, I think it is good to say something like this before Christmas, before people might make big spends? than leave it till after Christmas when people come back to work expecting to pay off Christmas debt with the next few months earnings? So that is sort of a positive?0 -
Ah yes of course, I remember now, D did say something about a consultation period. However, having been through a redundancy myself, I also know that in general companies know a lot more than they let on and just tell you stuff they think you want to hear to pacify you. They know a lot of what's happening already I'm sure, but just won't let on.
We'd never go into debt for Christmas personally. We pay cash/debit card for everything and don't use a credit card. Besides, everything is bought now, so they could have brought it up sooner (there's been rumours for months) in case that hadn't been the case and we were getting into debt for it, which is the case for a lot of folk, and some were asking why it was being mentioned now and could it not have waited until after Christmas with there only being 3 weeks to go. But yeah, I can see where you are coming from.
Ack I've got a headache nowWell I already had one but now it's even worse.

Aww, georgie... have a gentle hair rub. Thank you for the haribo - think we all need to get in the fort, eat sweets and think happy thoughts about the muppets
I could cry I miss P cat so much. It's not like I haven't been away from him before, I don't know what's up with me today.
Redundancy (or even the thought of it) is horrible - no two ways about it. Like you say, knowing that the people in charge know more than they let on never helps. I hope your head is feeling better soon and that you both manage to get a good rest tonight.0
