Really struggling for the 82 year old who is my dad. He's the most frustrating person in the world to buy for because he doesn't like anything.

He likes meat and potatoes. Anything else is 'foreign muck'. Once I made a hamper of food he enjoys. He asked if I got it from the charity shop and didn't bother to look inside.

He likes Westerns but will not watch a dvd.

He's a creature of habit and is attached to things. His favourite mug was a gift from my nieces when they were little - they're mid-late 20s now. It was once green but the paint is long gone. It's chipped and cracked and disgusting, but he wont use another one. He wears the same shirts and ties even though he has loads of new shirts and jumpers still in their packaging.

If he doesn't like a gift, he won't pretend he likes it. He'll say 'What the hell did you buy me that for?' then he'll give it away right in front of you. When he was in hospital he was complaining he was bored but couldn't concentrate on reading. So I went and bought him a book with loads of pictures in it. The only one I found was about steam trains and railways and as he used to work on the railways and had a model train, I figured it would be ok. A few days later he complained about it to me saying that he didn't like it and couldn't understand why I'd be upset.

The only thing that's ever got a positive reaction from him is novelty gifts - I got him joke toilet rolls and a cone for the toilet one year (he still uses the cone) and one year I got him a lump of coal. But I'm running out of original ideas there too, especially as the rest of the family have cottoned onto this and get novelty gifts now too. My plan was to get him shreddies fart pants, but they're sold out.

Big hugs, MU. Try flipping it. You CAN work, how many people with Bipolar can't do that? There are loads. The 8 hour shifts are awful but you did it. You have been at your workplace for quite a while now, they like you and are happy with the job that you do, they wouldn't keep you on if they thought they could replace you. Think of all the times you have chatted with customers and given them time, the person you talked to who was unhappy, the little child you gave the ears to. Does that sound like someone who isn't suited to working with people? You sound amazing at working with people and like you go the extra mile.

Also you know what triggers you, that's half the battle. You do so much better than me who did a year of work going gradually more psychotic and refusing to recognise it. Listen to Swain, you are expecting far too much of yourself. Retail is HARD particularly at this time of year, people who work in that profession don't get half the credit that they deserve. I could never have done it even before psychosis, I used to work part time in a pharmacists and ended up doing stocking taking and helping with medication stocks because I simply couldn't work on the till. More than 3 customers and I went to pieces in a total panic. You are doing so, so well and you are being too harsh on yourself.

Swain won't get sick of you, why would he get sick of someone who constantly wants to do better than they are, who constantly wants to be a valuable part of society, someone who pushes themselves to be the best they can be? These are all good qualities that would make someone want to be with you! I have no doubt that he is very proud of you. I know that you are not proud of you but if it's ok I would like to join Swain and say that I am proud of you, too.

Feeling a bit unattractive and worthless atm. Was feeling a bit amourous earlier and put the moves on DH. Nothing. No interest whatsoever. I am beige wallpaper.

Code,Sorry about your DH but have you thought he may have a low sex drive? my ex used to complain I never made a move on him but to be honest he never left it long enough for me to feel amourous.

I have just compiled an Advent Calendar thread in the Arms, address below:-

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5370774

However, I will post each one every day on here. If I don't for some reason, eg ill or something, you can get the day's "door" by going to that thread! :D

Here is today's........(PS don't worry if the days seem out of synch; it's how the animator person did them it evens out around day 16. For example, I say there are 24 days to Christmas today, but the animator, Buffy, says 25 days to Christmas! Until after day 16, when it's the same as me!)

MessedUp, I'm proud of you too! Look at what you ARE achieving, not at what you're not.

If I were faced with 3 hours alone on the till with a long queue of muttering people, I'd be in a right flustered state! What were your managers thinking, not coming to help with the queue?

Now, if you had a physical disability that prevented you working full-time, and which made travelling to work difficult, would you be beating yourself up? No, of course not! Once again, just because your disability isn't obvious, doesn't make it any less valid.

As others have said, you ARE working, you're trying your best, and succeeding, I must say!

When you feel a panic coming on, think of us, WaS's golden lights, all floating around you, supporting you, there for you. :)

Go girl! You can do it! :T:T:T

OK guys, you are amazing at finding clothes and presents, now here's a challenge for you.
    I want a small duvet.

I can find masses of duvet covers for bunk beds, but I can't find the duvets to go in them! What about caravans etc, where there just isn't the room to have a full width duvet on a narrow bed? Oh, and I want down or down & feather at Argos price too.

The current single in use is just too bulky and wide. I may have to resort to halving a double one, but surely this is not an unusual need?

    Thanks all.

    What about sleeping bags?
